Just noticed my reverse lights are not working. Been staring at the top of the gearbox as i presume there is supposed to be a reverse light switch there somewhere. Doesn't seem to be any wires connected to any part of the gearbox unless it's underneath.

You only have to over tighten the belt slightly and the tensioner will grumble it's head off. A new one from VAG is only around the £25 mark
-
Thermostat housing is underneath the water pump. Follow the bottom hose from the radiator and you'll find it.

lucky you didn't buy a new Audi .....some of them don't even have bonnets you can open any more. Very home mechanic friendly...........not

as guitarman says ...pm daves16v for one of his handle repair kits......well recommended......much stronger than the original diecast lever
-
My money would be on the cambelt tensioner especially since you say you have had your cambelt replaced lately. Best way to find out is to remove the alternator and power steering pump belts and then start the engine for a SHORT while to see if the noise is still there.

As others have said.....stay away from deep water. The engine will suck in water if the filter gets wet. Early Renault Espace had the air in let in the same position and boy did Renault end up paying the price for that mistake.

Get yourself a handle repair kit from Daves16v ....not too difficult to fit and you won't have any probs with them breaking again......well worth the money imho

just above the wiper mechanism there is some sort of metal panel....the cable is routed above that. Probably won't be able to put any pics up untill the weekend coz it's always dark by the time i get home.....i'll take some pics Saturday when i change the cable
-
I've just found the same problem with my throttle cable but it sems to fed between a plate and the bulkhead just above the wiper linkage......tried pulling the cable to the left and right but looks like the only way to remove it is to cut through it. Should the cable be fed this way so it doesn't snag on the wiper linkage? If so....how the heck am i supposed to feed the new cable through? Sorry for hijacking the thread by the way.

any help? belts alternator 16v. now ratchety noise
Valerian replied to bighairymuppet's topic in Engine Bay
It's been peeing down here all day as well -
Gavin......yes i do get hot air out of the blower.....but not what i'de judge it to be hot enough. The radiator fan seems to come on when it is supposed to so that's one thing. I have also noticed that the coolent pipes seem rather spongey and will look slightly inflated when the car gets to it's warmest. Then again....i can only judge by the number of other cars i've had in the past and have never owned a VW before. I don't use the car a great deal at the moment anyway so i'll prob see how things go for the time being but i will change the thermostat eventually just for some peace of mind.

Blasted typical......i had the power steering pump off last week to change the drive belts and the crankshaft pulley....pffffft .....would you adam and eve it?
-
New Corrado owner so be gentle with me. Right ...where will i find the coolant thermostat on a 1.8 16 valver? My temp guage only seems to ever go as high as 70 degrees and while i am driving along it steadily goes down even further. So from past experience i'm assuming the engine doesn't have one fitted or it's faulty.
