Steam rising in traffic.. I suspect something's wrong....
Storm77 replied to CharlieC's topic in Engine Bay
I had that too the other day.... Here's the thread for it. http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... highlight= -
The last few encounters have all been successful with waves or flashes of headlights - it makes my day when it happens. Simple things please me. If non-c's flash me I never know if its cos i'm driving a C or if they're warning me of speed cameras ahead, or checking if my headlights are on etc!.....so other C drivers are probably the same.

to VR or not to VR...that is the question.....
Storm77 replied to swfblade's topic in General Car Chat
It might not feel that quick cos the VR is quite refined, but mine certainly has no problems with that 0-60 time (with a bit of help from the remap!), and passengers comment on getting pinned to the seat on acceleration. It's enough for me. Kept with a type R the other day until he starting pulling away at 80, but i'm pretty sure whose engine sounded the nicest....mine! I agree with GradeAFailure, the tasty sound of the VR is the clincher! Would like a go in a supercharged VR, but not to own one. Even more bits to go wrong and worry about......I worry enough! -
Very tasty, the H&R's will definitely complete the look. 8)

Its gotta be said, that was spot on! Just looked at the advisory note on the receipt saying that the rear gearbox engine mount is worn. So that was probably the cause of the split! You certainly deserve your doctorate, doctor. Engine mounts next then.
-
Yep, had it fitted this morning.

The light started flashing just as I rolled into the garage. Probably lost about a litre. For some reason the light doesn't start flashing on mine until the level's about 2 inches from the bottom of the header tank - surely it should flash when it goes past the minimum marking?
-
Just got her back from the garage. You were right dr_mat, it was the exact part you mentioned!...big split in the hose. I've been advised to watch the water levels over the next few weeks cos there may have been some engine damage......is this likely? I only drove it 15 minutes in the pissing rain, then a few hours later for another 10 minutes to the garage. Surely I couldn't have cooked the head gasket in that short period????? :?

Man, get that front off the beautiful golf immediately! - chav neons and paintwork to boot! oh dear
-
After 10 years of VW ownership, nothing on the pricelist suprises me anymore!..think £120 for a boot carpet for my MK2 Golf was the best!....got it for a tenner from the scrappy in the end!

Cheers for that
-
Hope it's just that - then it won't break the bank
-
Sounds bout right. Did you do the repairs yourself or did a garage do it? - how much did it set you back? I'll need to add on the cost of a pint! :)

well from behind the block - there's lots of hoses around there....

Whilst driving the C this morning, I noticed that whenever the car was stationary, acrid smoke was coming from under the bonnet. When I pulled over and flipped the bonnet, I noticed that the coolant was really low and smoke was coming from the back of the engine behind the rocker cover (above the exhaust manifold). Topped up the coolant, drove ten minutes down the road and the smoke came back. Lost about half litre of coolant again and when the engine was turned off could hear a quiet suction noise coming from where the smoke was being emitted. Could it just be a split hose leaking onto oily bits on the manifold causing steam or could it be something worse?! What should I do today?...take it to the stealers down the road?

IV Golf R32 - Interesting info on sales numbers
Storm77 replied to K-rado's topic in General Car Chat
Cheers for the link s.g. - grey is nice but not as tasty as i'd imagined. Think i'd have the deep blue still. After seeing the MK5 R32, it's made me want a MK4 one even more! -
IV Golf R32 - Interesting info on sales numbers
Storm77 replied to K-rado's topic in General Car Chat
Deep blue pearl is by far the nicest i've seen so far.....but looks like it's alot of other people's too which is a shame. Bet the grey one would be quite tasty....i'd snap one of those up if I ever saw one for sale! -
That's interesting, cos I could have swarn that i've read loads of threads on here about which oil to use, and they all say that 0W and 5W are too thin for VR6 engines :?:

Sciroccotune, I'm gonna have the same dilemma come springtime . My circumstances will be changing soon and the GF will be using the daily driver which means I'll start racking up the milage in the C which will start getting costly. I can either keep the C and get another daily driver OR sell the C and get a MK4 Annivesary TDI. I think the latter option would be cheaper but not sure if i'm ready to sell the C especially after I spent £3k on it in the summer! I think your choice is a bit easier cos you're looking to get a VR later. If you save some cash by running an economy wagon, you'll be in a better position to get a minter of a VR later. At least you know that you'll be getting another C in due course, so less gutting.

Hi JS, sounds like a successful shopping trip to me!

Yeah i'm worried now - it might have been added onto the 'target list' like in Gone in 60 Secs! Nah, they got bigger fish to fry!

760bhp Corrado (that's 760BHP....at the wheels!)
Storm77 replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Well yeah it's all very impressive and everything, but kinda wish it was a Honda so that its one less Corrado being butchered. -
:) Very true Dinkus....and I would have said, for 2K you'll only get the Storm badges! Only jokin, I know these badges are a touchy subject for many!

760bhp Corrado (that's 760BHP....at the wheels!)
Storm77 replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
I'd only be interested in mega BHP if it still looked like a Corrado and went round corners like a corrado!....oh and if it was usable power for when you're sat at the lights in the wet and not struggling for traction whilst being left by a Saxo! -
Good chuftie yesterday - a smart looking guy doing door-to-door selling knocked on the door and the GF answered (I was at work). He said "For once I'm not gonna try and sell you anything, I just wanna buy that lovely looking corrado" looking round at the VR parked on the driveway "is it yours?" She explained it was mine and there was no way I was gonna sell it, and he said "well, I'll pay good money for it" quite insistantly! Anyway, he left a bit disappointed, checking out the interior (and probably milage like I always do) on his way back down the drive. ....wonder how much he would have offered?!
