I cannot believe for a second that the ST will have better residuals...the RS has excellent residuals but they were limited edition and IMO look loads better than the ST. In a way, the fact that the Golf is more expensive than the Focus means that in a few years time, the focus is more likely to fall into the hands of the chav brigade! I'm surrounded by them at the gym I go to, and to them, the GTI is not an option...thank god! Even if the GTI and ST residuals are the same, it just means that although you paid more money for the Golf, you'll get more money back when you sell it. Fair enough to me.

I'd keep hassling them, and letters tend to be more effective than phone calls for any correspondence. I'm a bit p*ssed off with Direct Line at the mo. This time last year I told them about my modifiactions, and although i only had 4 months left on my premium, they were quick to rob me of another 100 quid. Then, today I phoned to inform them that I was going back to standard spec and they said that because there was only 4 months left, there would be no change to my policy!!!!!....cheeky barstewards!! I argued for a while and as I wasn't getting anywhere just told them i'll go with Elephant next!

Another update on this incident.... I mentioned earlier in the thread that AmD had lost my original springs. They phoned me the other day saying they'd ordered me some new ones from Germany. So today I went to AmD to get the original VW shocks (which I supplied) and springs fitted (they said they'd cover the labour cost for the fronts as compensation for the faulty front Konis). To cut a long story short, they'd ordered the wrong springs, which meant putting the Eibachs back on with standard dampers! I was there for 6 hours aswell just to get them switched over!!!! The ride is definiately smoother (wafted along at 110mph on the A34) but it's a bit 'halfway house' having lowering springs on standard shocks. Has to be said, AMD these days are a bit of a p*ss poor outfit. Was speaking to another guy who had bought his A4 in as they'd previously left the oil cap loose from a service and oil had spilt out everywhere  I told him i'd been waiting 6 hours and he said he was there till 8.30pm on one occasion!

Yep, and if we're talking 16 grand for a car, I'd stick it in a MK4 R32 anyway.....man, those b*ggers just will not drop in price!!
-
This is true!.....we all drive 10+ year old coupes!...hardly a sensible choice money wise! Don't agree with you about the style though - the VW commands far more style than the other 2! I LMAO when Clarkson was leaning out of the ST shouting "ROONEY!" It's also worth thinking about residual value - unlike the RS focus, I can see the ST not being quite so good as the Golf. No need to even mention the Civic!

The orange one looks like an after market respray colour chosen by a 17 year old chav!! Blue is loads nicer IMO! Would like to have a go in one, but my VW bias would point me more towards a Golf GTI (chipped to 250bhp )!

Bit of a rubbish poll ready...all you need to do is vote, clear your cookies and vote again, then repeat till the Corrado is top! :D ....and the MK1 GTI second!!
-
Radostormvr6, sounds good mate - yours must be the closest thing to a new C with only 14k on the clock! Would be nice to see the car in the flesh. As soon as you have a date, let us know and we'll sort something with all the others that expressed an interest.

They cost me 150 quid from a place in Hemel Hempstead which I thought was really good value. They just look new! Got some new BBS centre caps to go on aswell. The general concensus seems to be that going back to standard is a smart move, which has really surprised me. The remap was definitely money well spent (worth getting 20 more torques!) as were the magnecors and Milltek. The stealers seemed to get the badging completely wrong on yours! ....all adds to originality I spose :) A group of Mystics together would make for a good photo!

The solitudes are back - ahh good as new! 8)

Yeah, I bored her to death!! Here here :) Sounds good, only ever seen 2 mystics together. There's a few others on here with Mystics.

Heard good things about the FK coilovers, don't know about the Magnex systems but I love my Milltek! As for whether to keep it standard, that's only for you to decide...if the ride height bothers you and you don't mind a firmer ride then it's worth getting coilies! I'm going more for comfort now I'm approaching 30  It's whatever puts a smile on your face! I also wondered about Powerflex bushes but have replaced all bushes and mounts with new VW ones and am happy with that.

Right, there's no turning back now! Have just bought some standard Bilstein shocks and got the standard springs ordered from Germany - should be on the car end of next week. Really can't remember what the original ride was like!.....but will soon be reminded! My refurbed solitudes will be going on tomorrow with brand new Toyo T1-Rs 8) - so gonna stick the Golf BBS's on the Bay with the existing tyres. So much of this car will be like new soon! :D

In a couple of weeks i'll be selling my Koni (top adjustable) shocks and Eibach ProSprings. i'm going back to standard set-up. The front Konis will be brand new still boxed (replacements after a faulty front damper) and the back shocks and the springs will have been on the car for less than a year covering less than 7k miles. Bearing in mind the dampers cost 365 quid and the springs were 165 new, what do you guys reckon is a fair price to let them go for?

Saw a Blue N reg (something like N*** UGT) C heading towards Northampton on the A43 at 5pm today. -
Quite interesting how the figures were right down compared to the Golf VR6 when they first came out. It seemed to take a couple of years for word to travel that they were good cars as in '94 the figures are more balanced. Would love to know how many VRs are left. They only sold 49 autos in total and that was just in 95! Interesting figures. Thought the Highlines were alot rarer than that!

I was thinking the same - can't believe it looks so mint considering its done a quarter of a million miles!!! You're gonna need to spend a fair bit of money on it for the charger rebuild etc, so I'd play hard ball and offer £750. There can't be that many people queuing up to buy a C with that high milage.

Yeah, don't think there are many Storms where the badges are actually in the correct position! ...even one of the press cars had the badge in the same place as mine! The Stealers obviously weren't following the instruction sheet properly!! Funny, those lights cause very mixed opinions - I think they make the car look a bit less dated, but what annoys me is that they never fit perfectly! So yeah, as OSV said, stock is probably best for me.
-
Phil K oh yeah forgot bout the grill!...will probably get it back to colour coded when I get a chance - they're high maintenance though cos it's just one more thing to get destroyed by stone chips! Walesy and iow_corrado_g60 Would love some coilies for looks and handling, but with all the speed bumps and pot holes in my area I fancy a summer of smooth cruising and no clunking acoustic shelf!! If I can't cope with the height, I may get some coils with the cash I get from selling the konis (2 of which will be new) and Eibachs. I'm just gonna suck it and see! Cheers for the comments guys.

Cheers 16v. The leather is certainly more about looks than anything else for me...its too cold in the winter (when I haven't got time to wait for them to warm up), and too hot in the summer!! Although the 'wipe clean' factor is a bonus! Watch this space, going back to 4 x 4 ride height (brand new VW dampers) due to issues with my Konis, and seeing as I'm doing that, I'm gonna get the original lights back on too! It's gonna look totally standard again apart from the Milltek (which is a 'must have' IMO). Does anybody think i'm crazy?!

Thought i'd post up some more pics seeing as it's just had a thorough clean and wax. Got some temporary wheels on from a MK3 vr6 while my Solitudes are being refurbed - looks pretty good for 15's I reckon. See what you guys think! Look out for it at Santa Pod tomorrow!!

Saw a brand new GT40 just South of Salisbury the other day! It was blue with the white stripes just like Clarkson's!...maybe it was Clarkson. Didn't they only make about 100 for the UK market?...if so, that's pretty rare!
-
Funnily enough, I also use my Girlfriends MK4 Polo for my 8 mile drive to work - a nice little 1.4 8v in dragon green and it's a quality little car that costs very little to run. I also car share, so it's very rare that I drive the C to work - only when I wanna treat myself!! Having a daily driver just makes the C far more enjoyable to drive at weekends - just feels more special!
