  1. Bald potenzas are probably pretty good in the dry though.
  2. Hi Would raising the CR on a VR engine to 11:1 be asking for trouble? Would the engine die a lot sooner? And is there any way of lowering that back to a reasonable level to add a charger at a later date? Thanks Will
  3. Almost Stan. I keep going back to wanting a 12v though. To go with my Nike Airmax Classics! Old school me :)
  4. Yeah I agree. Rebuild it and if you want more power get a charger. I almost went across to the dark side and got a 24v. Going to go for a full stealth rebuild though.
  5. A rebore is about 150 or so. Pistons are about 500 upwards afaik. I guess you'd then need piston rings, and probably bearings etc. Maybe another 2 or 300 or so from what i've seen and read. Try this http://hiflowheads.co.uk (engine rebuilds page) for rough prices of bits and bobs mate.
  6. I see what you're saying now trig. Either way it would be a fair bit of work. I hadn't fully considered the scope of the OBD1/2 thing. I think for the first time in me life i'm going to go with the least risk option and go for a full stealth rebuild. With gearbox rebuild and lsd. I want to keep the car for a long time. I'd love a 24v tbh, but knowing me, i'd probably buy a duffer ;) I can always save for more power :)
  7. Was that a sarcastic comment? The money-throwing? Anyway, is a rebuilt 2.9 weaker than a rebuilt 2.8? Surely reboring the 2.9 is asking for trouble? Is it better to get a shagged 2.8 and rebuild that?
  8. I seriously don't think that an r32 can put its power down better than a 911 turbo! Nice big fat engine pushing the exteremley wide rear wheels into the tarmac and all. Probably wrong though :)
  9. The catching can possibly be sorted with a bit of arch rolling - the inner lip (at right angles to the outer arch) is folded back on itself, up into the arch. I think there are various options bodywork wise, depending on how much 'extra arch' you need. The arches can be pulled out a bit, but to get a decent job I think you'll need proper metal extensions. They do look very cool when done properly. Some of the seriously low and wide fellas will be along very shortly to answer properly I'm sure. :) you could try pm'ing 'scarlett'?? i think she has 9 inchers all round!
  10. Top ones. Thought I'd hate them on a C but they rock. And a respray in mat khaki (spelling?) ???
  11. Gotta be a mistake? Maybe it was meant to say very wet or something. No way is a turbo 9 seconds slower than a GT3 rs in comparible conditions. Well maybe it is, but i'd be well surprised.
  12. Yeah and me. And the Mrs! I hate red, but it does look lovely on a rado.
  13. Minging black valver next to hove park this afternoon. Parked up opposite a gorgeous black vr. Anyone? ;) ;) ;)
  14. but i have all the OBD1 stuff mate. so it could be done either way. Just realised i could have a full stealth rebuild, gearbox rebuild and quaife/peloquin all within my budget. Now that is tempting. It would be like a new car. Would then have to save for a charger!!!
  15. yeah i see your point mate. but the charger makes no odds - its already on the engine and i don't suppose it will have to come off. even if it does thats not a huge job. but i reckon 2 days labour or so all in. i guess i could even stay OBD1 - would just need a new chip. i think
  16. I'd budget for a fairly major job though mate TBH. It's not like sticking another OBD1 in there... how major is it going to be though mate? the engine and charger etc comes as a lump. so what will i need to change other than the loom? fill me in please dude :) i actually have the money and i want an engine before i invest it all in our dutch friends best export!!! :)
  17. i saw that mate thanks. i want something with a 'lifetimes' worth of use in it though mate. fully rebuilt. and its for the rado mate. the golf got nicked
  18. Yes mate. OBD2. So a bit more hassle, but not much. And a better engine.
  19. makes a change, did you walk into the end of a scaffold pole ??? lol. i did say i'm TRYING to be sensible mate! :)
  20. Fitting the 2.8 will be easy though mate. Pretty much a straight swap. But you're right - the charged option would be about 800 more. Fortunately I have the funds :)
  21. hmmm.... you too eh? i'm trying so hard to be sensible :) for once......
  22. Hi. My vr engine is fekked and I still haven't decided on what to do/found an engine. Its driving me nuts now. I have found the following though - rebuilt 2.8 (4k ago) with schrick cams and schrick inlet manifold and a stage 2 charger. So would you guys buy that or go for the full stealth rebuild on my engine. Similar prices really. My heart says the schrick and charger one. My head says Stealth rebuild. What do you reckon? Sensible or beast?????
