  1. anyone have any thoughts on the plastic then? don't be shy
  2. no offence but personally i would try to avoid alpine. over-rated imo. infinity's are available really cheap on egay. i got mine for half the price dealers were selling them at. a definate step up but still cheap. just my sorry opinion though :)
  3. Looking at ordering some coilovers now, and have been looking at a few different ones. Is it me or do weitecs have a plastic spring seat? If so, is plastic up to the job? Seems like the sort of thing i'd kill in a matter of weeks! Really struggling to decide what to get. Not too bothered about comfort as its no longer my daily driver and i'm ard ;) KW - nice but fookin expensive H&R - ditto FK - disappear for ever if you have to return them to germany for repair Weitec - plastic? Avo - controversial this one. everyone slates them, but from what i've heard first-hand the only real problem is them being very stiff. Aparently this is helped by running them at full stiffness for a few hundred miles then backing them off (also supposed to stop them blowing/leaking). Also heard their service and build quality are very good. getting a bit fed up with trying to decide now :(
  4. slightly different? i went from a golf vr to the rado vr mate, and believe me they are a world apart. especially with regard to the front end/steering. you're absolutely right - the golf feels about 3 times more 'vague and mushy' than the rado. i reckon you should trade her in for a C :)
  5. definately. there can be so many different faults that throw up the same symptoms. a couple of times i've assumed i have the same problem as someone else as we have exactly the same symptoms, only to find its something totally different. my battery, starter motor, ignition switch spending spree springs to mind. you live and learn eh? ;)
  6. And that can work out expensive when the parts are £40+ exactamondo! :) been there. done that. :(
  7. take the car to someone with vagcom mate. we could all suggest any number of problems that could cause that, but who knows which one is right? good luck :)
  8. could be gearing as well? not sure if the 8v and 16v had the same gear ratios?
  9. but that turned out not to be true. did you not see that plot of the 8v and 16v golfs? at no point in the rev range does the 16v make less torque or power than the 8v. its a myth. i guess it just feels that way cos of the way the 16v comes on cam more obviously.
  10. well it would help if someone would actually sell me one mate :) come on. preferably of the r32 variety please
  11. in that case i'll give you 25 quid for your engine mate. seems fair mike? :)
  12. complain to the council? why? they will do fek all as they have no liability. sorry to hear the fekers got your stuff mate :(
  13. Could it possibly be a fekked top mount? My left one is totally shagged - it doesn't clunk but it jolts and i can feel the strut move when i do a parking manouvre. Just a thought.
  14. resale? whats that. she's staying with me mate. :)
  15. yeah, i admit it, it didn't take long. the more i thought about it the more it seemed sensible to go for a newer engine. fingers are crossed.
  16. lol hello mate :) i'm weak obi wan
  17. nice :) musn't get excited - this one is only a possibility at the moment, and i haven't seen many reasonably priced r32 lumps around. i soooo fekin want it though
  18. aposegil - 60 kg is quite a bit actually. having me bird or not in the car makes loads of difference to performance and handling, and she's a skinny one! :) (not like me)
  19. absolutely! but i would have quite a lot more engine braking too ;) looks like i have been tempted by the dark (24v) side trig :( hard to resist 240 bhp and variable inlet etc though
  20. going to try and sort the money for the r32. wish me luck :)
  21. also i've got to defend ford a bit too. the fusion is a complete dog, granted. sh*te. and the Ka is a 15 year old fiesta design so no suprise its a bit poo. but the focus is a quality car (mk1). very well designed and made. very good to drive. amazingly reliable. can actually take a real beating and live with it. but i'd still take a veedub every time.
  22. what a load of old horse. who wants to fit in? snob :) :) :)
  23. from the sound of it mate the wiring is going to be fekin easy.... cos you're not doing it! :)
  24. i've asked the questions - just waiting for an answer mate. what do you reckon haldex running gear, prop, etc is worth on its own?
  25. I hear you brudda! R32 is sooooo fekin tempting eh?
