i think i missed out on a bargain. on ebay a r32 box went for slightly over £100. maybe it wasnt an 02m. if it was, damn!!! any idea how the shafts have to be changed? and what needs to be done to make a gearbox mount? I can get it done but want to know whats involved so can judge time it will take to do the work. is there a link to a how to..?

Anyone know if their are different types of r32 gearbox and is a straight swap for a vr6 box? thinking about this box as its 6 gears too. im guessing its not

cheers guys. looking at the manual again i think there is a problem with my car wiring so will sort it out again but need some input which central locking option should i use? vacuum, single wire etc??? and which wires should i splice into? Whats the best way to wire the geen and the yellow wire, negative and the positive door trigger and finally, i know i need to use a relay for total closure with the white wire but which car wire should i splice into to get the windows to close hope this makes sense? the rest of the wiring seems fine, just a little confused about the above. thanks

- VR does need stiffer springs but I have coilovers on which seem to cope quite well with the extra weight. The cars been lowered loads, but I didnt have any noise prior to the engine cheange. - Noise seems to be when going forward, back, left and right. But more noticeable when going straight. - Noise is constantly there, on acc, deceleration etc - Wheels are on tight and cant see any debri. Hubs look straight and the wheels rotated well when it was last jacked up. - I havent had anyone in the car yet, but will get someone in the back incase its the rear wheel bearings Im hopefully going to lift the car up again this weekend, and ill put load on the wishbones so that the springscompress. I should then be able to here where its coming from. According to ETKA the driveshafts for the vr and 16v are the same length, so I dont think this is the ussue, Im reckoning the cv's are no good even thought they arent that old. thanks, will let you know if i find out more

The noise is always there, I had a look for rubbing with the wheels but looks all clear. It doesnt seem to get louder with speed, well not that noticeable over the general driving noises. It happens when going straight and round corners. only driven a few miles so far so still learning the characteristics of when and how the noises occur.

ok, so I definately have a wiring problem. thanks

I have a strange problem where, if the fogs are on it will cause the wipers to also operate. Anyone had this before or anyone got anyideas where the bad wiring may be? thanks

Its been a very long time since Ive driven my car and it has an anoiying habbit of flashing the hazards on when starting the car, only flashes once. There sounds to be a relay switching from the alarm so, does toad give some sort of warning to say its not working correctly or have I got a short somewhere? Also I cant remember what the colour of the led should be when driving, mine is red. Just have a vague memory it should be green when driving along. thanks

I have this anoying grinding/rubbing sound coming from what appears the front of the car. Ive had the car on axle stands and rotated all four wheels and cant hear it, it only seems to appear when driving. This is in a car thats been converted from 2.0 16v to VR6 and so most mechanical items could could be at fault due to dodgy seller. The noise has been there since the conversion. Options Im thinking; Dead bearings Wrong Driveshafts (The drive shafts are vr and the cv's are 16v. Using vr uprights and pressed in 16v hubs) Gearbox on its way out any ideas or tips to find the source of the problem? thanks

ok cool, now can I use the vr6's drive shafts? will the r32 gearbox suit the vr's torque output?

well i took some more time to investigate the no speedo problem, I know for sure its not electrical. Took all the speedo drive parts made from plastic out of the output hole on the gearbox and had a try to see what i could see in the hole itself. Couldnt see anything and also couldnt feel anything inside, is it possible that the main gear inside the gearbox that drives the speedo is missing (previus owner may have done something to the gearbox before i testedthe speedo function)? Wouldnt that mean the gearbox wouldnt work thought?
-
anything a bit closer to home? or is germany the only option? also, if I used a g60 4wd box what what be the problems?
-
Im needing to change my gearbox, and Im also wanting to do a 4wd conversion. So are there any gearboxes suitable for a vr6 that will allow for the conversion at a future date? Will I need to lock the out put shaft to the rear?? Saves me having to remove the gearbox numerous times. Which cars had them and how much are they generally? Thanks

Sorry not sure what you mean about the burnt magnetic sensor or the frazzled black wire, unless your saying these could be the reasons for non functioning speedo. If the magnetic sensor is the part that sends impulses to the speedo, then that works because its a brand new item and i had a drill fitted to it and ran it to check wiring was good. This proved its a mechanical failure somewhere, but not sure what. The gearbox came with the engine and I assume that the guy who had it before me attempted to do something to the gearbox to fix something and has forgot to put the speedo output part back in. So is this a strip down of the gearbox or simple plastic parts that can drop into the speedo output hole??
-
found out that the gearbox has the gear output missing which feeds the speedo sensor. is this a complete gearbox strip to fix, or simple drop in fix?

nice little tip, thanks

ar5e! guesse Im having to change the rack again. Thanks
-
My car seems to be very light to steer left but heavier to steer right. Could this be a geometry problem with the suspension or could the rack be naff. never used this rack before as its a replacement. thanks

Failed my MOT today on corrosion to the brake lines. I was supprised to hear that 'cus I thought the corrado had copper pipes. Am I wrong? Any ideas?

Corrado Gearbox, are they the same as other VR6 Gearboxes?
quicky1980 replied to quicky1980's topic in Drivetrain
Just to confirm that Vince from stealth said that the Golf and Corrado gearboxes are identical. yey!! -
Just a quick question that I cant find results for. I need to get a new VR gearbox to replace mine, does it have to be a corrado version or can another one be used eg golf, vento etc etc?? thanks

Im down at my parents again to try and sort out my car. Fitted a new exhaust gasket to seal the leak between the lambda and the exhaust manifold. Also stuck in another 5 litres of fuel. Car still doesnt run well and still no fuel guage. I even fitted a new bosch lambda probe. I bridged the wires to the fuel pump (tank end) and the fuel guage didnt rise. So what else could I be missing? thanks
-
I have four wires at the fuel pump end but they are all the same thickness. But I tried bridging them using a resistor and no change on the fuel guage so I think its something else.
-
I have done a vr6 conversion to a 16v corrado, im 90% done except that the fuel gauge, temp gauge and speedo dont work, have I wired up something incorrectly or is there something im missing that obviouse, ie something not plugged in at the fusebox? Im using the 2.9 loom and instrument cluster Any ideas welcome Thanks

cheers, thats brilliant information. Will try it this weekend
