oops sorry forgot to say, ye its a vr. Used to be a valver like toad said. Think its sorted now, seemed to settle down when the air box was fitted.
-
After getting my car to run the engine seems to hunt when on idle, quite embarassing tbh. Does the engine just need to learn its new settings? and will that settle it down? or could it be something else?
-
I am planning on a oil change anyway, but just thought id find out what you thoughts you guys had. Scary seeing the grey smoke and loud tapping noise. The smoke seems to be worse when reving but like i said i havent really driven the car to run it in. thanks guys
-
Finally converted my car to vr6, but im a little concerned that there is white/grey smoke coming from the exhaust. The engine has sat for a few months and there is a tapping sound from the top end. is this bad or just because its not ran for so long? didnt want to leave it running in case it caused more damage, thanks

I know there is a post on how to rebuild a driveshaft but cant find it, any one know? Im particularly interested in how to change the inner cv joints
-
right as no one helped me out with this i tried it out myself drivesahfts seem to be the same length, its the outer cv joints that make the difference between the vr and 16v. bearings are identical in size and shape

Ive tried searching but must be missing the info I need. I have changed the steering rack and rod ends on my vr, how do i get the track rod ends adjusted good enough to get the car to my nearest garage to be correctly adjusted (6miles away) do i get the wheel just to look like they are straight or is the a measurement i can refer to?

16v to vr6 conversion not starting suspected fuel problem
quicky1980 replied to quicky1980's topic in Engine Bay
Ye got most of it together and just wanted to see if she would start. I noticed that fuel does seem very low so will put a little in to check that this isnt the problem. But i would have thought the pump would still prime. Cable tie?? How? Dave if the fuel situation doesnt work, any chance you could come and give me a hand. Obv I will pay expenses and a lil extra for your help, wouldnt ask normally but im gettin a little run down with it and needs to be done soon. -
16v to vr6 conversion not starting suspected fuel problem
quicky1980 replied to quicky1980's topic in Engine Bay
Ive cranked the car over a few times now but still wont run, how can i check this crank sensor? where is it too? i have a spare black/yellow wire in the engine bay, is this to do with it? -
I have fitted a VR6 to my 16v corrado, plugged eveything back into the fusebox, and connected up everything i can see. Turned the key to position 2 and couldnt hear the fuel pump prime, turned key further and the engine turned over via starter but didnt run, I suspect that the fuel pump isnt supplying fuel, but could be wrong. All the fuses are fine, and all plugs in the fusebox are fitted securely. I do have rogue wires with plugs loose behing the fusebox, they look like they need to be connected to something but cant see where. Cant remember all the colours but some where (black/red and brown) connected to a yellow socket , black/yellow connected to a yellow plug, black/yellow connected to a black socket, blue/black connected to a green plug etc car is low on fuel but not empty (i hope), car hasnt been ran for a month, and the fuel line in the engine bay were disconnected. cant think of anything else which is relavent. how can i fix the problem or at least track down and eliminate possible problems? thanks
-
ok, plugged in all the plugs into the back. plugs can only go in correct sockets. some sockets havent got plugs in them, is this normal also i have loads of wires hanging from the jungle of loom near the fusebox. they look like they are supposed to connect to some things but god knows where but tried to see if car would run, turned the key and noticed no fuel pump noise, turned car over but no start. what am i missing? must point out that this is a converted 2.0 16v to a vr6
-
cheers guys will go out and plug it all in when the weather gets better
-
I took the fusebox out of my vr and putting a new one back in, only problem is im not sure which plugs go into which soccket. Some obviousely can only go into one socket but a few seem to have same shaped plugs so im worried ill plug it all in wrong. is the an easy way of working it all out? thanks
-
mr_fusion, cheers. any chance of a pic of how to plum in the servo pipe and the pressure regulator valve? many thanks
-
so would this setup work once i plumb the outlet to the tb inlet pipe?
-
I got this engine and ancillaries but from pictures ive seen this isv setup doesnt seem correct compared to other vr's. Did some vr setups come like this? also the pipe from the brake servo, what does it plug into? is it just the inlet manifold?
-
ok more problems the abs plates are different widths so they have to be changed over from th vr hubs to the 16v's to avoid fouling, this lead to a problem with stud clearance and so the studs will have to be trimmed down a little, or the plate will be trimmed. and like crasher said the g60 brakes wont work with this setup. I have a complete mk4 1.8t golf setup to try, only prob is that the disc's are at my girlfriends house so wont be able to check untill next week, unless someone can tell me if this setup should work, if not which will? may even do a tt conversion I know this mod is not ideal and must point out im doing this as a temp fix untill i find some nice 5 stud wheels where i can do a proper conversion.

ChrisP how did you get round the wheel and brake problem?

Corrado 2.0 16v steering rack into a vr6 corrado? URGENT!!!
quicky1980 replied to quicky1980's topic in Drivetrain
Ok after looking on etka i decided to risk buying a vr UJ and seeing if that does the job. And yes it does, it turns out that the UJ's have different spline arrangement at the steering box end but are the same at the steering column end. This enabled me to keep the OE setup :) thanks guys for your help -
Thanks Crasher, I can see how you where concerned. Lets all make up and be friends, too many tw@ts on here and thought you were one. I did have concerns about the offset of the brakes and wheels. You think that I cant use g60 carriers and disks? I have a set of mk4 1.8T brake setup, would that help? my wheels are et+38, will that be problem?
-
I contacted GSF in Cardiff and Greg was very helpfull in helping me out. He got the bearings from each version of car and measured the bearings for me. From that we found that the widths are the same, but outside are slightly different in that the vr's are slightly bigger. Because im using vr uprights the vr bearings are the only choice as 16v ones are too small and hence wouldnt work. I am fitting a vr into my 16v and I want to keep using my wheels, which are four stud. If i did the normal 5 stud conversion I wouldnt be able to use my wheels, and no adaptors can be made due to the PCD's. Thats MY reason! I have done a similar thing, I measured the bearings, 16v and VR6, and found no difference thanks Chris, good to know some people can give usefull advice

Clutch slave cylinder sticking out and wont go back in
quicky1980 replied to quicky1980's topic in Drivetrain
right sorted it, i took the slave cylinder off the car, didnt want to. but this allowed me to push really has down onto the piston, once it got passed a certain point it was really easy to push in. i even accidentally made brake fluid shoot 10ft. all bolted in now and just need to bleed the system thanks Supercharged -
