Tried to order the bolts yesterday from VW and they arent able to figure out how to get them for me. I explained what I needed inc item number but still they had no idea. Anyone know how I can get a hold of these bolts? if not looks like ill be going to a shop and buying high tensile bolts to the correct spec.

I still have no speedo reading. I have VR instrument cluster,vr engine loom, vr engine/gearbox. I have fitted a brand new vw speed sensor (gearbox end), the gear box's speedo gear looks in good condition. So it looks to me I have a loose/bad connection. Which fuse looks after the speedo? Which wire controls the speedo? any help is welcome.

many thanks flyferrari. Im going to order the longer bolts now. Glad VW planned for my goofy work skills. thanks again.

Thanks so much bud, if that is the fact then it will save me a fortune. hopefully!

Im not sure as they sound the same as the standard bolt. I could be wrong though. Securing point .........Thread Bolt ............................. Part No. Front sub-frame........M12 x 1.5 M12 x 1.5 x 100 (10.9)......N 101 418.011) Rear sub-frame ....... M12 x 1.5 M12 x 1.5 x 100 (10.9).......N 101 418.011) Sub-frame bracket ..... M10 M10 x 40 (10.9)....................N 100 596.041)

Thanks. But, doesnt this just explain on how to retap the captive nut? or am i missing something?
-
Ok have changed the speedo sensor for a brand new vw one. But i still have no speed reading when driving. anyone have any ideas?
-
Cheers Lee, glad to know Im not the only one thats done this. Nice little hint about going through the floor. Ill let you guys know how it goes, still gutted tbh. more time and money!!
-
Its not the subframe unfortunately otherwise I would have replaced it straight away. Its the mounting bolts attatched to the car itself.
-
im not sure as the bolt goes through the wishbone wishbone pivot point. I dont know if a larger bolt would fit through.
-
has anyone had this happen to them or someone they know? is it saveable?
-
I have messed up big time!! And dont know what to do. I was in a rush and managed to cross thread and destroy the captive bolts on both sides of the rear engine subframe where the wishbone bolts attatch to. I know this isnt good and Im a pr@t for doing it, but is there any hope? can it be repaired? (beyond tapping) if so whats it going to cost and can a normal garge sort it? argh!!! im so angry!!! :censored:

yes you did mention the lambda probe. will get VAG COM to check it out, if its not that i will order a new temp sensor and also clean the MAF. ill let you guys know the outcome incase anyone in the future has the same problem. thanks guys
-
right been speaking to crazy dave, he seems to know a bit more about VR's. He said it could be the Lambda probe, MAF sensor could be gunked up, or there could be an air leak between the MAF and Lambda so will check those out soon. Also from research on here something about a blue temp sensor may be a cause so may try that at a later date.

ok will try to get it tested but only put a new one on last year. it was for a 16v so unsure if that makes a difference?
-
complete vr system, in engine, loom gearbox, instrument cluster. can speed sensors be bought off any other vr? or does it have to be a corrado. was thinkin of getting it from ford. any ideas how i can test mine?
-
Is there a wire that controls the speedo near the fuse board? As its possible I havent connected it or disconnected it by mistake.
-
still have the smoke problem though, seems to be rich. i thought maybe a spark plug wasnt firing properly but when i disconnected the leads one by one while engine was running it didnt seem to make any difference to how it ran. so what could be the possibilities? i dont know much about vr's
-
no i plugged up that hole lol i tried unplugging the maf sensor plug and car still ran, i assumed it would stall? couldnt reach the lambda plug to see if the car changed its runnin
-
left the car running and managed to take the car for a drive on private land. Tries to stall when coming to a stop for eg junctions. Smoke seems to be black now but hard to tell. So this points to a rich mixture i think. what would cause that and how can it be rectified? what is this ecu rest proceedure and what does it do (saw it on the knowledge base) another pointer is that i dont have anything connected to my breather outlet (trackin the part down now) any ideas?

Ive fitted a VR into my valver rado. Took it out today to find out that the speedo wasnt working, everything else works just dont get any speed reading. now is this a fuse problem, or does it point to the sensor being faulty? if so how can i check without having to buy another sensor. I am using a vr instrument cluster but cant say if the speedo was working before i fitted it. thanks

right the tapping has thankfully gone, and the smoke has died down. But there are still traces of smoke, it can also be seen from the dip stick hole. Im hoping you guys will say it will all settle down but im still worried. I will be taking the car to be MOT'd soon, can it pass with smoke? cant really drive the car to get rid of smoke untill its legal its a catch 22.
