:D ......... same here ... i was just trying to sort this conversion from early loom to late switches, i did make note of a listing of wires that was documented in the knowledge base sometime ago that have to be connected / ignored and not a lot happened :( ... with so many other things needing doing i left it for later ... now is the time to spend a bit of time sorting it :)

......make sure you have a good earth connection in the engine bay ... there should be an earth from the battery to the body and then again from the engine to the battery and body, any bad earth connections in this area will cause problems like this .......... my sister had a mini that had similar problems and that managed to turn the choke cable into the only available earth and that glowed damned hot !!!!!! :)

have they both failed ? you could take a reading from the working one and then compare to the suspect one -
