yeah, sounds like it could be something electrical playing up that wouldnt register on the fault collection part of the ecu ??? i`d take a look at the fuel filter perhaps ............. or how about try removing the fuel cap and taking it for a spin, i`ve had the breather in the fuel cap on a car block and the result can be just like you describe, i`ve also had the gauze filter on the pick up pipe in the fuel tank crack and slide up the pipe and partially block off the pipe, worth giving a go before spending any more dollar -

hello M15 VW, i`m hoping to get it on in the next 3 months, i`m champing at the bit to do it as soon as it gets home but i`ve got to wait till get some serious `me` time  ar*e, i was hoping the same, never mind :) , i appreciate the offer of help mate and i may well take you up on the offer, i`ll expect you be the one over the winning post first, i tend to get little time and i`m too much of an `old` engineer to rush anything  , whereabouts in soton are you based fella ?

hello sharlie1982, i may have a couple of fogs with scabby lenses, as far as i remember, the reflectors are in good nick as the glass was not broken, if you speak to kev haywire he can point you into the right direction with some non gen replacement fog lamp glasses at a reasonable price, i`ll get back to you later when i get the chance to hunt out the old fogs.

... it`s the proper way of repairing body imperfections and used to be the old way of doing things before all this plastic body filler stuff, it involves top preparation and applying the molten lead with a `wooden` paddle and a `tame` flame blow lamp, the lower heat will hopefuly result in minimal distortion ( if any ), you will have to obviously have to remove all the headining etc, if your man has ability then the results can be excellent and it`s one of those `fill and forget` things that`s been done properly as the lead doesnt sink or become pourous, best of luck with it mr therapor :thumbleft:

keep us posted as to your progress fella, i`ll pm you a bit later :thumbleft:
