Newb alert - some questions Id love answered :o) pretty pls!
Henny replied to raddo_g60's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah, I've kinda gone a bit overboard with my rebuild project... If you can get hold of the bits that you need (input shaft with 1st and second on it, and 1st, 2nd and reverse gears) you'll probably be able to get it done much cheaper than that at a local place... I took my gearbox to stealth as I wanted an LSD fitting and everything re-doing to make sure that it'll take the power from my new engine without leaving me stranded somewhere, hence the cost... 8) Getting hold of the gears isn't that easy though, I eventually had to buy a good complete VR gearbox just to get the gears... that bumped the cost up a bit too... -
Please point all replies to Ross's other thread HERE thanks... 8)

Can you keep this all in the one thread please? Otherwise we end up with hundreds of threads all over the place.... I'll lock the old thread and put a link to here in it... 8)

Changing the G60's first and second for a VR's ain't cheap/easy... I'm having it done while I have an LSD fitted and a gearbox rebuild... My G60's done 250,000 miles and I've just built a new 1940cc engine for it which I didn't want to subject the old gearbox to the power of without getting it rebuilt! To put a figure on it, I think that my gearbox rebuild is gonna come in at just over £1500 all in... :? -
£400 will also get you the supersport coil over kit from Venom that's very good... ;) you can go as low as you want then... 8) [mental note] I need to start charging Venom commission... [/mental note]

Instructions on changing VR6 front brakes???
Henny replied to jedi-knight83's topic in Suppliers Forum
I have always done it that way, so has my mate who's a mechanic... :? -
no idea then.... sounds like it's not gonna be easy anyway... :| You may have to cut the heads off the blots and see if that'll let the bumper slide out, but that could leave you in a worse situation than you're in now.... :?
-
Euro charge less than that (about £70 IIRC) 'cos I had to change the one on mine a couple of months before the engine blew up (non-related before you get worried! ;) )

99.9 normally means a blocked vacuum hose....

no, you need to buy 2 drivers side arms, one drivers side blade and one passenger side blade off a LHD Lupo GTI!  8) If you buy RHD ones they'll not fit at all.... RHD wipers = ,--------- ,--------- LHD wipers = ---------, ---------, 8)

 ;) I don't... I can't help it if he can't spell... :-P  -
*cough* "you're" not "your" *cough* ;) I had to look it up the first time I tried to take my bumper off, and it's always better to ask than to risk dropping an engine on your head! 8)

Jack up the front of the car, underneith you'll see the bar that the radiator sits on. At either end of that bar is a plate with 3 bolts going through it. Undo the outer 2 bolts on each side - DO NOT undo the center bolt else the engine will drop on you! The bumper will now just pull forwards and off the car once you've undone the wiring for the fogs and indicators... 8) I was about to move this question to common questions from the servicing section you put it in first time, but you deleted it yourself and moved it here... 8)

Welcome to the forum.... 8) 1) The gearbox on a G60 is very strong, but, in some peoples (mine included!) 2nd gear is too short (about 54mph max IIRC)... This results in a worse 0-60 time than you'd expect from the spec of the car, and I found it annoying in the kind of driving I was doing. I'm now having my box rebuilt with a longer VR6 2nd gear, good for almost 70mph.. 8) 2) Common consensus says that the G60 clutch is good for around 250Bhp with no problems... The VR6 clutch is actually slightly cheaper and should take the power slightly better... If you need to change a clutch, fit a VR6 one, otherwise, you should be fine.... 8) ISV = Idle Stabilisation Valve... uprated injectors and FPR are required with a chip and pulley conversion to ensure you don't run the engine lean and blow it up! :| 3)Drivers and passenger front seats are height adjustable... I'm 6'1 (with relatively short legs!) and I fit with a couple of inches above my spikey hair! ;) I can sit in the back of my G60 comfortably on the passenger side, although if I was driving the car, I couldn't fit behind the drivers seat (if you see what I mean!) 'cos of my driving position... Long journeys in the back of a corrado will be a bit cramp inducing, but you can fit 4 adults in one with no problems... 4) My G60 had 250K miles on it before I rebuilt the engine... 120,000 is nothing to a looked after G60 engine. The 8V block is very strong and lasts well when looked after... if neglected they can break though, like any complex mechanical thing... You'd do better to buy one that's been looked after than one that's had the engine neglected as you'll never know what else has been neglected as well as the engine! 5) I've not tried 17's on my car, but I can confirm that 16's are almost no different in ride quality to the standard 15's... Most people say that 17's DO affect the feel of the ride and that it's a compromise between rde quality and looks that should dictate what wheels you fit... 16's are said to be the best compromise... 8) 6 ) send Darren ( G-Man ) a PM and ask him, he's in the same workshop as Pitstop and does a wonderful job on the chargers. Click on the PM button on the bottom of his post above... 7) dunno, sorry... 8) see 6! ;) 9) probably also seeing 8 and 6! ;) 10) yeah, with the exchage rate as it is at the moment, you may be able to source some parts cheaper, however you may have problems with support and warantees if you get stuff like a charger from the states... :? -
they're just standard Golf GTI 8V ones.... 8)
-
OK, I'll lock this (as requested) before it turns into a take the micky outta Henny thread...
-
They work well when stood still too!
-
nope, 2 drivers arms 1 drivers blade 1 passenger blade This is so that you can put the arms up and clean the screen without hitting the bonnet... Got it on mine, trust me, it's great! 8)

Cuuuussssstttttooooooommmmm mmmmmmaaaadddddeeeeee...... ;) Sorry, couldn't resist! Seriously, if you know of a GOOD custom S/S exhaust place locally, go for it... it may cost slightly more, but you can ask for the type of sound you want... 8) If you're up near South Manchester, try Jp exhausts in Macclesfield... 8)
-
You've got the ones of "what not to do to a charger" that you took of my charger before you sorted it haven't you! ;) 8)
-
nah, wiring AND hole sizes are different... :? Typical VW...
-
there's a Vaccuum hose that runs from the engine to the back of the clocks... I'd lay money on it being frayed at one end, or being loose... ;) 8)
-
I must say, I've been very impressed with them since I dropped my gearbox down there to get it "tweaked"... ;) Vince really knows his stuff and came across really well... I can see what you mean about the roads around there too! Shame I was in my boat of a Driver!
