  1. Sheesh! someone with more milage than mine! (226-ish) Can't wait to see the pics of this one... 8)
  2. RobyD, According to Euro's web page it's a FEBI fan and is also for golf III and Ventos 1.4 -> 2L16v.... £59.99 + the dreaded... 8)
  3. I used to love doing that to Porsches in my old battered MKI 16V.... the 1600 gearbox used to make it scare the hell outta just about anything 0-80 if you could stir it quick enough! Smug looks are so nice to wipe off peoples faces when they leer at you 'cos they've got a NEW fast car...  I also like pulling Kev's trick of just acting like you're not trying when you know you're gonna get spanked, or even when you know you're gonna make 'em look silly... ;) 8)
  4. I had similar thoughts last night too... both that it was sodding cold and dark out there and that I may be able to use a pair of the other feet to stick it to the side of the boot as well as the floor... 8) great minds and all that... :D
  5. The UV LEDs are hidden just above the lip that normally holds the green filter. You can't see them at all as a source when they're on, and the purple glow is only just visible (bear in mind that the numbers on the dials will be glowing brightly anyway!). The leds only have a 20degree viewing angle, so it's just wide enough to light up the whole of the needle, but not wide enough to shine out and make your white T-shirt glow! ;) This system will ONLY work on Black background dials where the numbers shine up at night... (so they'd look original in daylight) if they are any colour other than black, the UV will make 'em glow in a 20degree triangle from the LED! :? I'm gonna see if I can get some different colour blacklight paints today and mess about with the rest of the needles tonight... 8)
  6. It needs 3 LEDS to replace the 3 bulbs that came in the clocks as standard... but I wasn't gonna throw another £3 away until I tested one to see if it was viable or not first... 8)
  7. yup, that's the Idea... it's running off a 9V battery at the moment as it's just a test, but it'll be really easy to wire it onto the original lighting circuit so that it dims with the backlights too! 8) I'm gonna get 3 other paints and play with the speedo, temp and petrol needles differently with another 2 leds to show what different effects you can do with it... :) Keep watching! 8)
  8. Hi all... My backlighting needles idea has stalled for a little bit, although I have a set of clocks like in the post above winging their way to me as we speak so I can do some tests on those ones as a possible idea has come to me... ;) In the mean time, I've been playing with the spare white needle'd dash I've got... Have a look at the photos and see what you think.... bear in mind that the blueishness is just 'cos the camera was throwing a wobbler due to the darkness of the room and no flash so it was picking up the UV LED a little bit too well! You could hardly see the blue/purple by eye... This is a standard set of clocks, with the needle painted orange and a single 3mm UV LED (£1.45 from Maplins!) above the rev counter powered from a 9V battery with a resistor... To the human eye, you can see a very slight tinge of purple on the dial, but the back lighting kit will drown that out... The needle is CLEARLY visible even when the numbers were only just visible (except the redline which was well bright! 8) ) This isn't even special UV sensitive paint... It's Plasti-kote enamel in "orange glow" from B&Q! Imagine what a UV sensitive paint will show up like! 8) I think this may be the way to go now that the UV LEDs are so much cheaper... :D 8)

    Jack

I'm pretty certain that all VWs from around the time of the Corrado use the same one.... 8)
  10. What's this? From the master of small (yet very good ;) ) modifications?!? Kev? You're slipping! :-P
  11. The crossover built into the basslink is adjustable... Sling it on full range (for the unit!) and then use your head unit to do the filtering... 8)
  12. yup, they have hydraulic tappets... 8)
  13. Looks like you've worked it out OK... :| Could be a lambda fault, making it run rich... It's probably worth taking it to a garage and getting 'em to shove the exhaust gas analyser up the pipe to see what's coming out...

    Noisy Dash

firstly, check all the screws are tight.... This is the kind of area that alarm fitters dismantle to fit alarms and imobilisers and some of 'em are sods for not putting all the screws back in tightly... If that's not it, go out and buy yourself some sticky backed black felt, try and work out which bits are rubbing together to make the rattle, and coat one of 'em with the felt. Tada! - Rattle cured. ;) 8)
  15. drop your speed to 65 -> 70 and you'll see a difference in the economy.. ;) Odds are that your speedo's out (under reading) of the MFA isn't as accurate as it could be... Fill 'er up, do a trip at 70, fill 'er back up and work out your economy by hand... My old 16V 'rado's MFA fuel economy gauge was loads out!
  16. yeah, on the long run to Cornwall last summer, I sat at a nice relaxed 70 -> 75 on the motorway and got a calculated 37mpg... the MFA was reading 36.5... 8) It's start stop stuff that kills the economy on the G60, cruising on a motorway at a steady (70ish, not 90ish!) speed will give pleasantly nice economy... add 20->25 mph on and you'll see it plummet to around 28mpg
  17. That's where mine just came from... 3days from website to car boot... 8) And you can't argue at that price! ;)

    exhaust shield

Yup, Mine's jubilee'd and it was silent when the car was running... :)
  19. if your belt is slipping and has been for a while, it's worth changing it for a new one, especially if you don't know when it was last changed... they're not expensive though, so it's worth doing it for the peace of mind... 8)
  20. so even by taking out my dials and putting them back in would reset the mileage...what a bloody stupid idea that was from VW. The corrado is a great car, but im sure the work experience boy designed some of it!!! No, The memory is stable, so it will store the milage unless something spikes the chip, Steve's just been unlucky with his... Mine's been out of the car and not powered for around 4 months ( ) and it's not forgotten it's settings... More's the pity... I could live with it reading 0 as that's what the majority of the car's got on it now... ;)

    Whistling Heater!

On the nose... 8) Spoke to the guy who's got my old GTI and the second hand fan's still going strong 2.5 years later... shame the engine's had to have a complete rebuild... (due to him running it without oil, nothing to do with me having owned it, before anyone starts! ;) )
  22. Yup, I can choose the milage on mine at the moment, either 116K, or 128K miles just by swapping the clocks over! ;) Problem is that I want it to say 230K which is what the correct milage is... :?
  23. have a look at 'em Fat_Tony  I tend to take the wheels off my 'rado every couple of weeks just to check things over (when she's on the road anyway... ) so I have a look at the pads then to see how much meat is left on 'em... 8)
