Yeah, but they are HEAVY!!! In an ideal world they'd weigh about half what they do to reduce the unsprung weight of the car as much as possible... :? I know that there are a couple of people around running a 2 piece brake disk setup for this conversion as they are racing disks and are a shed load lighter... unfortunately they ain't cheap...
-
As long as you buy the most expensive versions, (usually ATE) then they're fine... In fact I think that ATE was the OE supplier to VAG for the Corrado brake disks and pads, but I could be wrong on that one... :?

Euro Car Parts... 8) http://www.eurocarparts.com 8)
-
I have a feeling that they're the disks to use for the 5stud Brembo conversion... :? Wish I could remember where I read about it...:|
-
When you say "wouldn't start", what EXACTLY did it do? would it turn the starter motor and engine over but not catch, did it do sod all or what? :? It is sounding like you may well have a dodgy ignition switch, see HERE for replacement instructions... 8)

Sounds flippin' expensive to me... But then I do the labour myself so I'd have a heart attack if I ever took my car to a garage and had to PAY someone to work on my car for me! :?  Front disks are about £40 from VAG (IIRC) or £15 from euro! Rear disks are about £30 from VAG (IIRC) or £15 from euro! Front pads are around £15 and rear pads are around £15 from Euro You're also advised to change the rear wheel bearings while changing the disks - £8.77 per side from Euro Labour to do the lot should be around 2 hours top... That should give you an idea how much it should cost....

It NEEDS to be exactly 1m long else your timing will be out 'cos the ECU will be getting all the wrong info about vacuum and engine loading... Get this changed first (it's dead cheap and easy to do!) and see if there's any difference... 8) If the car's actually pinking, it's also worth checking the state of the cable from the knock sensor that's on the front of the block next to the oil filter header. The cable has a habit of rubbing on the engine and wearing through which can make it's readings unreliable... :?
-
yeah, if the hose is kinked or blocked then it'll do the same as if it's not there or the wrong length...
-
Sounds to me like you need to check the vacuum hose that goes from the throttle body to the ECU... This needs to be EXACTLY 1m long and has to be in good condition else the ECU doesn't know what the engine's doing and gets the fueling all wrong... :?

I'm pretty certain that no 16" wheels will clear the VR6 conversion as the disks are bigger than the 4 stud conversion (325mm Vs 305mm) and the 4 stud calipers are close to touching the inside of the wheel! If you wanna stick with 16", you'll have to get the 4 stud version and have the disks re-drilled to get 'em to fit, or find some 305mm 5x100 disks from somewhere... :?

Most of the tuners say that a front wheel drive car can't handle more than around 250BHP 'cos over that it just can't get the power down onto the tarmac! Why do you want 300BHP? Just get the torque figure up and the curve nice and flat (same amount of torque right thru the rev range) and you'll be more than happy.... 8) A supercharger on the VR makes it into one hell of a beast by all accounts... It's supposed to be pretty easy to do too 8) Then I suppose there's the NOS option you could add on too... All the rest of the stuff tends to take time and effort to do (as well as some fairly heavy cash outlays...)

30K is good for a set of pads in my experience, but front disks should last for at least 2 sets of pads... I put Mintex 1144 pads on my G60 with standard disks and was going through a set of pads in about 10K with very little wear on the disks after 2 sets of pads... 8) Then again, I did take the car up through the Buxton hills every weekend it was sunny last summer!  8)

Not a chance... Sorry... :? I doubt they'd even be big enough to take the disk, never mind the caliper! :|

A loom is a set of wires and relays that you connect up to the battery, lights and existing light wiring... Basically it provides a shorter path to the battery for the lights to get their power from... The standard VW wiring goes for miles between the battery and the lights, so there is a considerable resistance in the wire. By putting in a loom with a shorter length you get a full 12V at the bulbs rather than the 9 to 11V that most Corrados get with the standard wiring 8) Cheap, quick, easy and VERY effective! 8) (and No, that's not a description of Gav! :-P  )

Got my lights this morning... mmmmm shiney.... 8) Cheers for setting this up Simon... 8)

My full spec wouldn't fit once the car's back on the road!  :-P Just put a link to your gallery, it's quicker and has pictures too! 8)

LOL... When I worked at the garage I learnt mechanic-ing at, I used to get all of the angle grinder jobs, 'cos I wasn't afraid of it... My boss even let me cut the back suspension out of his one-of-a-kind RHD Porsche 912 when someone ran in the back of it and the torsion bar sheared off it's mountings... 8) I don't plan on using an angle grinder on my engine though!

Can a G40 bolt onto a KR 16V?!? *mad idea hatches...*

I take it it'll be pretty easy to drop into a MKI golf!?? Just happen to have one sat around not doing a lot at the moment!

OK, so I've been really rather lax with my posts on here... Dangermouse, bought a parcel shelf from him and was WELL impressed with the parcel! 16VG60, bought more than I can remember off him totalling several thousand pounds, as well as shed loads of advice... 8) H100VW, bought a loom off Gav, and have been very impressed with the quality, not fitted it yet 'cos the front of my car is missing! But happy non-the-less! G-Man (sorry mate, I just had too much Gin tonight!) set of clocks, Charger rebuild, intercooler and pipework and oil pipes for the Charger as well as shed loads of advice... Another £1500 + person... 8) Erm, there's other's but I've been drinking and have had a long day... If I've forgotten you, PM me and I'll add you...
-
RTFI...  Seriously though, if you buy a loom from someone like Gav (H100VW) He'll give you instructions and help you out if you get stuck... (not that that's a serious hint as to who to send a PM to about looms or anything!  )

Here-here!!! Go for it! 8)

You tried giving Brentacre a bell mate? They gave me an excellent quote... And besides - didn't you tell them that your car is stored in the kind of secure storage that would embarrass Fort Knox?! :) ROFL... 8) That was a proper "G&T? meet monitor..." moment then... I only called the insurance company to up the milage on my Driver as I was about to run out of the limited milage I'd set so I've upped it by an extra 4000 miles (£50!) and I asked for a quote at the same time... I'll guarantee that HIC will get it down to just under £1000 when I actually need to insure it, although I'm considering keeping the driver as a daily driver (pun not intended!) and putting limited milage on the 'rado... 8) Dunno, I think 3 cars may be a bit silly on a long term basis!   I get the feeling if I told the insurance company what I've done to the garage, they'd either pat me on the back and knock a shed load off the insurance, or have me arrested!

..or 50P from ebay... :-P  8)

I'd never go as far as to say that... If I did, my car would have been back on the road 26 weeks ago...  Good luck... I hope I'm wrong about that too! :? I'd have thought it more likely that the clutch has collapsed than you've broken the box... hope you get it sorted PDQ with as little hassle as possible though... 8)
