SteveO, I had the exact same problem on my 89 16v GTI, turns out one of the (3) Dizzy cables had lost part of the insulation and was shorting out to earth on the bodywork, the result was that the car would idle just fine but would stall as soon as you put any load on the engine. I see you have been looking in this area but before you go changing bits give those cables a really good eyeball right the way back into the loom! Cheers Dan

They are not indestructible! My old man hit one side on pulling out of a petrol station.....result one bent land rover pissing petrol everywhere and my old man's Volvo 740 with a bent bumper and a small crease in the bonnet didn't even puncture the rad! the guy was well pissed off turns out the petrol running down the gutter was worth more than the landy! :-)

Injector loom, blue temp sender, vac pipes all ok?
-
Oh they have the cream of VW motor parts retail working for them! I find it best to go in with a part number or at least a picture, unless of course you dont mind standing around for two hours while they have a look on the "computer"

Also its worth removing the passenger side under tray thing and having a look at the plastic cogs under the air box, you will probably find that one of the cogs is broken so it either doesnt turn at all, or like mine only turns halfway so windscreen takes bloody ages to de-mist! :-( This has been covered before and last time I checked someone was saying that cog can be removed and replaced without to much bother, am going to try ordering it from my local Stealer, but as the last time I went there to order an ECU vac pipe I was told "No vac pipe's on the ECU mate its all electrical init" Useless Bast*rds will probably keep me there all morning again! :2gunfire: Anyway will update once I have tried replacing Cheers Dan

40 Mile round trip on the M27 great on half term! Not so great when the little sh*ts go back to school so Mom and Dad have to clog the roads again  :x

Cheers Steveo :-) knew it would be easy! Just another quick one so I can plan roughly how long it will take.... Will I need to take the charger off the car to do it? Dan
-
Sorry if this has been covered before, have searched but cant find anything! Any fellow G60 owners changed your chargers small toothed belt? How easy is it, I am sure I read somewhere that these are cheap and easy to change an therefore should be changed once a year, I also heard that if you have a Jabba charger (like me) you should change it as they have a habit of not changing this belt when they are rebuilt? Cheers all Dan

I have over come all my sunroof issues by simply not using it :-) Sorry not very helpfull I know

Hey Andy, Good work fella!! :-) its always good when you get her back on the road again! See you at the next south coast meet now I have mine working again too! Cheers Dan

Hi John, Welcome to the forum! :-) not sure on the legal situation regarding Cat-bypass but as far as I am aware all cars built after August 92 that where supplied with a cat must have one fitted and working at MOT time. If I am wrong here please some one step in and correct! Cheers Dan

Hi Mate, How did you get on is it all sorted now? I had the same cable snap on me the day I picked up my G60 :-( was driving it home typical it didnt go when I was looking round the car as he demonstrated the sunroof working both slide and tilt! Anyway it took me 6 hours to get the bugger out replace the lefthand side cable lube it all up, then when I put it back in I found it tilts open and shut but wont slide anymore! Also the corner your roof is leaking in could be that the drain hole on that side might be blocked? Is it still leaking? Cheers Dan
-
Ah I see sorry, got the wrong end of the stick there! Not meaning to take the pi** here but have you checked the obvious things, PAS fluid level? Also check the pump outlet as when I picked mine up some fuck**g muppet had put it on arse about face and there was a 90 degree kink in the rubber hose where they had tye wrapped it to the underside of the bumper!!

I doubt it, the owner of the place I take my C to has just picked up a top of the range Toureg and I swear I paid for at least half of it! :x

Hi Matt, I have had my G60 since June now and still loving it! However I have also noticed that the steering is a lot heaver than my Golf 16v I just put it down to the fact that the Corrado weighs about the same as the deathstar! (not kidding just wait till it breaks down and you have to push the fecker!) Does anyone else with a G60 C think the steering is a little heavy? Dan

Hi All, I need to replace my crankshaft as my G60 has just chewed through the Crank pulley (again  ) Can anyone tell me if I replace it with a second hand Crankshaft can I replace the bearing shells, Thrust washers with new VAG parts or should I fit the ones that match the donor crank shaft? And will I need to do anything to the donor crankshaft to match it with my lightened + balanced flywheel? Obviously I will replace the bearing cap bolts for new ones along with oil seals both ends and clutch bolts (as it will be coming off) Also is there anything else I should replace while I am in there (did the oil pump on Wednesday  so that should be ok) Cheers all Dan

When I changed my BTS it leaked like crazy had to get a new rubber o-ring for it to its only pennies from GSF
-
Nope but drove it home from work tonight pulled up outside my house and the crank pulley let go (again) guess its time for a new/second hand crank shaft this time! either way its back off the road again and the thing I am most pissed about is that it means I am going to miss the G-works open day next sunday :censored: never mind I have not come this far to be beaten now! Dan

Was surprised to come across this post since I brought my Corrado off Young Lad and guess what he never mentioned the oil pressure problem! especially pissed since I gave him £3000 for it! Since I picked it up its done the oil everywhere trick three times, I would not have minded if he had told me but he knew I had got the train up to London and was driving it back to Southampton! As it turns out the relief valve on the oil pump was jammed have changed it now so fingers crossed its fixed! But here is short little list of things I have had to fix since buying my dream car. 1. Drivers side door mechanism 2. Fan speed only working on 4 3. Sunroof mechanism broke and jammed open on the way home (it did work when I checked before buying) 4. Crank bolt came undone which chewed the pulley and the shaft (had the car for three weeks at this point) 5. Parts missing from the Drivers side CV joint 6. Front tires bald on the inside (looked ok on the outer edge) 7. both front anti roll bar drop links rusted through 8. drivers side track control arm more rust than metal 9. Front bumper fell off on way home, turns out it was held on with tie wraps 10. Bonnet release cable broke (the same day the crank pulley went) + bolt head snapped off the adjuster 11. Dodgy ignition switch Lesson learned if your buying a new car for gods sake give it a really good look over first  oh yea and cheers Young Lad Dan

Had my oil pump changed on wednesday and probably stupidly decided to do the boost check on the 20 mile run home was chuffed thats its pushing .7 bar @ 6200 rpm however when I got home I noticed the oil was at 114oC and the water was past the 110oC mark  it had a new blue temp sender three weeks ago adn the fan kicks in ok but have only ever heard it going at one speed, can anyone confirm the G60 should have a 2 speed fan? Think I should slap in a new thermostat the weekend :-) Cheers all Dan
-
Sorry mate its a right pain in the ass!! Know thats not what you wanted to hear but I have not had to do it on my G60 (yet) although I did have to do it on my Golf 16v a few years back I guess its almost the same, best to put a side a whole day to do it and I have heard that its best to put in a MK 4 Golf matrix *Can anyone confirm this is correct!? Best of luck Dan

G60 now starting fine but running problem! !! AAHHHH!
DanVW replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in Engine Bay
Hi Mate, Glad its starting properly now mate :-) so whats the deal now? Can you confirm that from cold it starts fine every time and runs for approx 10 mins before the idle goes tit's up. Also have you checked all your vac hoses double check the 1m from the TB to the ECU, although it sounds temp related so probably your best bet would be to buy (or blag for a test) a blue temp sender from a working G60. Hope this helps Dan -
Decision help needed Another 'Rado or golf??
DanVW replied to Son of a Beesting's topic in General Car Chat
Know I am probably going to regret this but... Whats a westfield? -
Looking through the recepts I have for the engine rebuild in 2003 its shows Oil Pump Corrado G60 £49.50 + VAT so it looks like it was a GSF replacement. I have to change the sump at some point so I think I will go for the cheap option for now, will drop it out and change it for a VAG one next year, at least the old one lasted 3 years! Cheers for the advice Dan
-
Anyone have any advice regarding GSF oil pumps? There are half the price of any others I have found and while that is a cool thing I would rather it lasted than have to change the b*st*rd again in a years time, is it worth paying the £90 for a VAG one? Cheers all Dan
