yes mate cheers for the top tip... I didnt realise the ends unscrewed so was well pissed when the leads wouldnt go back on! Would be wicked if I could borrow a spare coil to test! :-D
-
Well I just found out why I have been loosing coolent from the header tank the last week or so... the o-ring had rolled up on one side :-) sorted that but she is still missfiring badly once warmed up :-( Changed the plugs (NGK BP6ET) had to put these in rather than the recommended ones as one of the old plugs had a knackered thred so I didnt want to put it back in, and they where all I could get within walking distance :-( also fitted a new VAG BTS yesterday but no change  going to get it sniff tested on Monday to rule out the head gasket but thinking about it could a dodgy coil cause this? Guess its got to be worth a coil and set of leads to find out.
-
One I did today... Dont remove your blue temp sender with the sparkplugs out, as a quite amazing amount of coolent will flood out and go straight down number the four plug hole  you will then spend ages stuffing bits of kitichen roll down there trying to soak it up!
-
Cheers for all the replies :-) I spent today testing and replacing bits but I am now starting to suspect the headgasket as its getting worse and worse :-( time to get the coolent sniff checked on Monday...
-
Cheers Andy I changed the rotor arm and dizzy cap a few weeks ago but will check em again on the weekend just in case.
-
Easy to replace :-) me and Goldie did it on his storm a few weeks back and if you use the search you will find the "How to guide" on replacing it ;-)
-
Cheers Flusted I did test the switches with my meter and they are ok, but I did notice that my throttle cable is a little slack could be time for a new one. I also noticed on the way to work this morning that the problem does not start till the oil temp is upto 75, I never boot it till she is up to 80 but wanted to see if the problem was still there while the engine was warming up, and apparently its not

Wide open throttle.. otherwise known as Boot down ;-)

Ok people thinking caps on! For the last few weeks I have been noticing a hesitation/misfire when I go to full throttle it happens in all gears any speed, its fine to drive until I go WOT so it cant be the plugs/leads/cap or rotor arm (cap/rotor arm replaced 2 weeks ago anyway) Thought it might be my knock sensor as the insulation was hanging off in places but I changed it on the weekend and it’s made no difference :-( I guess it can’t be the lambda probe as it’s not used at WOT, it also has a new(ish replaced last summer) fuel filter and BTS (although the BTS was a GSF part so may try a new VAG one) Last night I tested the WOT and idle switches on the TB and they are both ok, so I am a little stuck for ideas now, the search returned lots of G60’s with dodgy idle and misfire problems but not one exclusively at WOT  So anyone got any good ideas of what to test next? Cheers all Dan

Not sure about this.... As my old KR 16v Golf GTi used to have very good MPG much better than my G60, I used to get 550+ miles out of a tank of Optimax, I struggle to get 400 out of my G60 :-( But I still love her! :-)
-
Like the ricin gas canister under the drivers seat? :-) second thoughts no thats far to swift a death for the theving scum! You want something really nasty in there! Shame you can only buy that really good stuff of the US government if you happen to be a power mad dictator :-( Sorry getting carried away there on the wrong forum!

I see :-) cheers for the info! Was trying to decide between cat1 alarm/immobiliser or tracker but guess I should get a cat 1 on there first!

Woodruff key / cam pulley keyway - im getting very worried!
DanVW replied to Andyrado g60's topic in Engine Bay
When the crank pulley went on mine, I just replaced the pulley (the keyway is part of the crank pulley) and crank bolt, the end of the crank where the keyway fitts was a bit rounded off but its been fine since last summer, as Crasher says above make sure the guy who did the engine swap replaced the crank bolt with a MK1 DX bolt and washer! I had to retap the thread in the crank too as when I came to refit I couldnt get the new bolt in :-( -

Just a quick cooling update, my fan and Toad's have both died on the first speed so tonight I'm going to short both fan senders from the thermotime switch so that the fan will kick in on speed two at 94 degrees :-) this should cure the last of my over heating problems as its now fine when moving but still gets too hot in traffic because the fan wont come on till the 2nd speed :-( Bloody thing it worked on both speeds uptill I changed the thermotime switch, came on at the first speed once then decided it didnt like it and now only works on speed two  Will let everyone know how I get on! -
Ahh good point Flusted  standard chip in mine!
-
I am still running the original 78mm? pulley (not sure on original pully size) so it is safe to give it some up to 6500 and even 7000rpm as long as you dont run a smally pulley? :-)
-
Have you tried butter? Failing that I can swing by on the weekend with my semtex if you want? :onfire:
-
Sorry :offtopic1: but I thought the G60 would only rev to 6200rpm? I never take mine over that am I missing out?
-
Get yourself a 70 degree one from here: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/store/section.php?xSec=86 :-) looks like its done the trick for Goldie Oh yea and some G12+ from VW (the pink stuff)

DanVW replied to Goldie's topic in Engine Bay
Oh yes! :2gunfire: Felt a bit bad for venting on the poor parts monkey but enough is enough! Its way beyond a joke now as the VR stats are bigger than the G60 ones but it would appear they are just as 5h1t! :-( -

A very good point but after drooping my coolent for the third time in a week to get another cr4p VW stat out I gave up and am not going to waste any more time with it!! After market stats all the way from here on in!
