I'm currently doing a rebuild on my engine, mine has 127k on it, it was fine untill I added a supercharger then it started to smoke. I got hold of a head off a Golf which had only covered 40k so thats going on, head gasket set, piston rings, big end bearings and head and rod bolts, all OE parts (not main dealer though) parts cost around 500, add another 300 if you need new chains and clutch ( I did mine 3k miles ago). The reason I'm doing this work is because my engine needed it, if I was running a stock engine with a good service history that has no knocks, rattles and is not smoking then I would leave it (prob be wise to do the chains et al though). As said above with care, stay below 3000rpm untill warm etc, then the VR6 engine will stay happy for many miles.

Garage is huge!!

According to Parkers a poor private sale price for a 97 'P' model is £29,070. So yes it does seem cheap, £160k new

Cant help with the wiring mate but good skills, nice to see all that work going into a Corrado, I'm currently doing a re-build on my VR.

Few pics from today, only got four of the pistons out as I need to turn the crank so I can get a socket on the remaing two but I need someone to hold the top chains to stop them jumping a tooth or two on the intermediate cog and they was no one to help me :( Still gave me a chance to give the garage a good clean out. My little work station

Its needed doing for months but I've only now got the time and money to do it. I'm a bit worried the gearbox may have to come off as I'm not sure I'll be able to get the pistons out without turning the crank which means setting all the timing up.... :( Fingers crossed I wont have to. No I didnt get any caps in the end.. so I'd gladly take them off you. :D

Well I was up early this morning, went to pick up a headgasket set, set of rings, new big ends, head bolts and 2 gallons of synta.... yup finally got round to sorting the headgasket and rings. Few pics: Glazed bores anyone?? They're like mirrors!! Replacement head (Thanks Karl) is nearly built back up, sumps off so in the morning its pistons out, hone the bores and all back together, should be done my monday night, no more embarrasing blue smoke!! Yay!

Why is it so hard to make a decent VW Car Mag?
ziderapple replied to Jay2's topic in General Car Chat
Golf+ went drastically downhill hill when the latest editior Fabien Cotter took charge, but although its thinner than PVW, and they dont shift half as much copies as PVW its the better mag IMO (anyone remeber Golf-Xtreme???) PVW is full of American bling and "rat" sh*t, a rat used to be a car with killer performance but ratty, according to PVW as far as I can tell its just sh*t box with stickers. If you want a decent read about cars buy evo.. -
I guess the best thing to do is speak to them and see what they suggest, seems to be the best solution, I dont really want to go FMIC, too much time, choping and hassel for my liking. Thanks for the info on the exposed temp sensor, I would imagine there is one which would fit the standard tapping, its only a thermistor after all and they come in all shapes and sizes. Well I'm off to France in the morning 'till the 15th so I'll have to put the cc thoughts on hold, well try to. I'll still log on if I get a chance. Cheers.

I dont suppose anyone does actually know how much air a V9 running at 12psi would displace? (CFM) Thanks
-
I had been browsing that very website before posting, I'm sure one would fit, just the air flow rating I'm not sure on, Vortech's website claims a max air flow of 800 CFM for the V9 (1000 for the V1), but it also says you can extract 20psi from the V9 which I think we can all agree is horse schitt, so I'm guessing a chargecooler wont need to be rated to 800CFM. Its just finding out how much they really do displace.... Rather crude calculation: (800

Some very impressive kit on their website. I've been having thoughts, was wondering if there is a chargecooler I could plumb in to the Vf kit, I've been thinking about chopping must of the inlet pipe away and fitting a chargecooler in, fix it in with two samco coupler's and a bracket to support it.... must be one that'll fit with a high enough charged air flow rating... Your thoughts please FI guru's. Thanks.

A crank position sensor is a component used in an internal combustion engine to monitor the position or rotational speed of the crankshaft. This information is used by engine management systems to control ignition system timing and other engine parameters. Before electronic crank sensors were available, the distributor would have to be manually adjusted to a timing mark on the engine. The crank sensor can be used in combination with a similar camshaft position sensor to monitor the relationship between the pistons and valves in the engine, which is particularly important in engines with variable valve timing. It is also commonly the primary source for the measurement of engine speed in revolutions per minute. Crank sensors in engines usually consist of magnets and an inductive coil, or they may be based on magnetically triggered Hall effect semiconductor devices. Common mounting locations include the main crank pulley, the flywheel, and occasionally on the crankshaft itself.

sorted yet mate? Must say I feel sorry for you, seem to have had a really sh*t time of it lately! Fingers crossed for you mate. :D

Just got new VR6, hot oil and burst coolant hose!!!

Is this all sorted now? -
Yeah, not one to look at if you're on dial up. As far as I could tell, engine was 2.0ltr 16v, with a rather large turbo strapped to it!! Dyno plot towards the end - 290 bhp, 270 lb/ft
-
I'd love to have space, time and money to do this with mine. Hats off. 8) http://www.vwspirit.ch/forvwsp/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

Mk 4 Golf's are a little dull IMO, but SEAT's fall apart, poor build quality - I know I'll get some abuse for that but its true, I've got three mates with them, all paid £10k+ for nearly new ones, and they wouldnt argue with the above comment. I nearly bought one before I got the C, so I tested a fair few, read lots of reviews, I was very tempted as they fly, but head one. (Obvioulsy heart one when it came to the C!! ) Never been in a Mk 4 VR so cant comment, but would imagine a turbo and R32 goodies would cure any dullness!

Oh, thats terrible, people download things without paying for them!? Couldnt be like it myself. Where exactly do they go to commit such crimes? http://www.???
