  1. Was the VRS really that bad?! I had thought of one at one stage but from what I saw they all had really light coloured interiors, which is a recipe for disaster with a dog that likes to seek out mud at every opportunity! Bet the VR6 sounds a lot better anyway, used to love the sound of that engine 8)
  2. Hey, finally a suitable replacement for the old VR :) I like the interior 8) Good to hear my old car is still going strong, it's now 5 years since i sold it :shock: How time flies! Congrats on the impending wedding also, make sure you enjoy the toys now while you still can :wink: Jamie
  3. Picked up a copy of Performance Car the other day after seeing the buyers guide mentioned on the cover, shame they didn't pick a better example as the paintwork on the one they used was a bit shabby looking :( Even a basic polish would have helped, and I'm not exactly a detailer... Bit surprised about the comment about the slow steering, can't say I remember that from my old VR6 :?
  4. The VR6 is a great car, but I wouldn't have thought it would be at it's best on a track. Cars like the Integra and Civic should be a lot stiffer and the brakes much more effective. The whole "off-cam" thing isn't really an issue on track either. I would have liked to have had my VR on track at some point but would always have been worried about something breaking :( Actually, the Nurbugring should be about the best possible track for the Corrado, lots of long straights and sweeping bends, not too much of the really twisty stuff where the more modern cars will leave it behind. Anyone got any in-car videos from the 'ring?

    Lotus Exige S

    :wave: The S is a great car, but there's not a huge difference on track between it and the N/A, it's on the road where the extra torque makes the difference. I've used my N/A as (almost) a daily driver last summer and this summer, even without the touring pack it's still perfectly usable and comfortable. Needs a decent exhaust though as the standard one is far too quiet On track it's just awesome, so much grip and huge fun. The S2s are pretty reliable, the 'Yota is a decent engine but you do have to rev the nuts off it for the best performance, not a hardship when it's so much fun :grin: I've had 130mph + out of mine on track at Bedford, an S should still be pulling whereas mine starts running out of steam not much after 120. They're quick, but not that quick, a basic Caterham will keep up with one round most tracks, but they're almost half the weight. At least I can drive home from trackdays in some comfort, stereo on, aircon blasting out :camp:
  6. I loved my old VR6, but the only car I've previously owned that I'd buy back without even thinking about it would be my DC2 ITR. The Corrado is a great car, but it doesn't take apart a back road like the Integra does. It's definitely a car you need to try for yourself, too many people on here moan about lack of torque, no character etc. with nothing to base it on other than being defensive about the Corrado - you just need to accept they're both great cars, albeit in very different ways 8) Jamie
  7. Nooooooo.... :( Hold on to it, you'll be bored of the S3 in no time :wink: Still, you've had a good few years out of it, wish I could hold onto a car for so long :grin: Jamie
  8. Great, another dull Golf variant :roll: Surely VW should just have come up with a new name for it, as it's got nothing in common with the previous generations of Scirocco. As someone who would potentially be in the market for a new VW Scirocco/Corrado coupe this just doesn't interest me in the slightest. Why would you have one of these in preference to a Mk5 GTi? Having owned 2 Mk2 Sciroccos and a Corrado there's just nothing in the current VW line-up that would tempt me back :(
  9. It makes an appearance? Where? See Glenn's (Bojmobile) avatar :D
  10. Scottish former VR6 owner here, in fact it makes an appearance in this very thread... :wink: And mine made a trip up to Orkney a few years ago, still have very fond memories of that trip :D Jamie
  11. Just as well it was a car with bulletproof reliability, great looks and a huge boot that won then :wink: I drove from Edinburgh to the south coast (and back) last year in my Teg, bit noisy on the motorway, but perfectly comfortable, and you just turn the stereo up a bit anyway :lol:
  12. That's it? :? :roll: After all the promising "scoop" photos shown so far I'd be very disappointed if that is the end result - not at all eyecatching and the design is far too heavy. The huge wheels in that picture don't do it any favours either. Looks more like a comfortable coupe for middle aged people than a sports coupe in the vein of the original Rocco.
  13. I can guarantee they handle better on track :wink: The Recaros are also the best seats of any car I've tried...
  14. Looks 8) Only thing I would suggest is to invest in some new numberplates though, you'd be amazed how much they sharpen up a car's appearance. Did this for my old VR and it just made it look so much tidier :)
  15. You can if your car doesn't have a windscreen, a la Caterham Fireblade :wink:
  16. The Integra would murder the VR6 on track, no question. Much lighter, much stiffer, LSD makes a BIG difference on tight corners. I suspect the Bridgestone RE010s (OEM fit tyres) play a significant role also - they have the stiffest sidewalls of any tyre I've experienced. Always find it a bit sad to see people on here being so down about the ITR, it genuinely is a great car and one that you need to experience to fully appreciate. The Corrado is a great car, and I still miss mine, but the ITR is the sharper handling car.
  17. Nice 'liz, rocket 8) Fastest car I've owned is obviously the VXT (standard), although it doesn't always feel especially quick due to the flat torque curve. Fastest car I've driven must be the Evo VIII FQ330 (decatted, supposedly worth another 10bhp) a couple of years ago that was ballistic when the turbo spooled up :twisted: I can remember well the first time I booted my VR6 in second gear, couldn't believe how strong it felt! I guess you get used to the power pretty quickly though :?
  18. Surely the point of the Eos is to waft about in comfort? Fine if that's your thing, but I'd personally much rather have a VX/Elise than a car whose sole purpose is to be seen in... CaiosG60 PWR, 1645kg isn't that heavy?! A VR6 is only about 1250kg, and it's not exactly considered a lightweight :lol:

    Trackdays

    Petros, I think there have only been 2 or 3 street legal trackdays so far, it looked like they were going to become a regular occurrence but there hasn't been one for a couple of months. I've not actually been to one, but from what I've heard (and the photos of the events I saw) they seem to be a mix of cars, from the really fast stuff to hot hatches that have obviously been looked after (i.e. not the bangers that do the hot hatch days). The 10K value for hot marques events isn't an absolute limit, as there are a few cars that wouldn't approach that, it's more to keep the numpties away. If you were to do something like an SIDC (Impreza Drivers Club) day as I did recently, there's no restriction on the car, but they do enforce the driving standards to ensure no idiots spoil it for anyone. I'm sure I've seen a couple of Corrados at previous SIDC events. Another option is to try one of Knockhill's own trackday beginner sessions - I did this last July in my Integra, and it was a good introduction. One place you might like to have a look is http://www.scottishcarclub.com/phpbb/ - they're a friendly bunch and can probably point you in the direction of events that you could do. Hope this helps! :D
  20. Looks 8) I remember once upon a time I owned a VR6 something like that... :wink:

    Trackdays

    Er, I think you must have been to a hot hatch day rather than a Hot Marques or proper trackday event. The hot hatch days at Knockhill are entertaining to watch, but can be absolute carnage (i.e. you wouldn't want to be on track with some of those nutters). Your average Hot Marques event will feature 911 GT3s, Elises/Exiges, Imprezas and Evos, and none of these drivers wants to have an incident with anyone else. I've tracked my current car, and it's not cheap and nasty, even if it is a Vauxhall :wink: There are various trackdays where the standard of driving is a lot higher, but then they're more expensive - you get what you pay for! The SIDC days are extremely well-run, Knockhill are also now doing "street-legal" days, which you could get your Corrado on. Sadly I didn't manage to get my VR6 on track while I had it, but I've tracked the 3 cars I've owned since, and loved every minute - it's something you really have to try at some point :D Jamie

    ITR -> VR6?

    The evo article is quite an old one, January 2000 (I happen to have a copy lying here!). I bought my copy off ebay. The article is supposedly about the best 10K used car - they put the VR6 up against the TVR S3, Clio Williams 2 and Porsche 944 Turbo. Good article, and very favourable towards the Corrado! Yep, the VXT is a great deal, you can get them for about 16K now, which for the performance is unbeatable. That's one option, the other is the 3.9% deal that Lotus are doing at the moment on the Elise 111R and Exige... Seriously tempted, watch for me selling my kidneys on ebay :lol:

    ITR -> VR6?

    Some nice cars you have in those collections :thumbleft: I know what you mean about the S1 Exige, they do look fantastic. I had a ride in someone I know's S2 Exige on track last weekend and it was just stunning. Can't quite afford one of them, but considering something along the lines of a 135R or possibly even a VXT would be nice 8) From everything you've said, I think you'll enjoy the luxuries of the VR, it took me a while to adjust from my Corrado, the refinement, the silky smoothness and the lack of noise. As an all-rounder I don't think you can beat the VR6 - check out the buyers guide in evo magazine if you can, they summed it up in pretty much the same terms. Cheers, Jamie

    ITR -> VR6?

    Hi Matty, I've done the change in the opposite direction, '93 VR6 to 2000 ITR. They do drive quite differently, the VR6 is more of a cruiser than the Teg, a LOT quieter and much more refined at motorway speeds. I reckon the VR is probably a bit more heavy on petrol (I don't drive the Teg at 8K + all the time!). The VR6 does have a very nice snarl when you rev it, but personally I love the F1-alike VTEC scream :twisted: Peformance wise there's not a lot in it in normal driving conditions, the torque of the VR means you don't need to rev it in the way you do in the Teg. That also makes it easier to drive in town, and it's also easier to overtake in. You might miss the VTEC kick though! The Teg is a fair bit lighter, but is also a good bit bigger than the Corrado. The chassis is quite a bit stiffer, but the VR still has a lovely fluid chassis - not as fast point to point but still a very nice drive. Standard brakes on the ITR are MUCH better than the Corrado's. I found I was spending a fair amount on maintenance with the Corrado, where the ITR has been absolutely bulletproof. Don't expect the same levels of reliability! How did you enjoy the Elise by the way? That's the direction I'm heading in for my next car...
