1.8's have slightly narrower front wings to the 2.0's and VR6's, and 1'8's have a dip in the middle of the bonnet as opposed to the bulge on the other 2 models. Like this ----_____---- 1800cc _____--------_____ (2.0) Not sure about the wings on the G60. I think they use the same as the 1.8, and bonnet too. Tuning :- 1.8.....exhaust, performance panel filter and drilled airbox and/or removing the snorkel that restricts the airflow into the airbox. These mods are common. Without spending mega bucks on lightening and balancing this and that, and porting and polishing the head etc, you will not succeed in making a 1.8 a fast car because if the truth be told, they just aint that quick. 2.0....change the exhaust cam for the one from the 1.8 kr engine. This alone is said to hike power by as much as 15 bhp. Then again, exhaust, airbox/filter mods etc. G60.....much easier. Smaller pulley on the charger, chipping, filters, exhaust. Theres loads of info on G60 tuning on here, some recently too. But tuning a G is going to be easier, cheaper and with bigger results than a N/A car. VR6.......leave it alone, they're fast enough as is.

Could either be the cam chain (not expensive i believe) or possibly the tappets. Again not a an overly pricey/complicated job, but there are 16 tappets at approx £6.50 each (£104), then whatever a new gasket is (not much) plus the labour. Prob be in the region of £200 for having the tappets replaced. Thats what a garage said was a ball park figure some 4 weeks ago. 16v's are prone to a tinkling, metallic tappy sound anyway. Its very common and nothing to worry about. Just make sure your motor does not use lots of oil so you can rule out anything more sinister. My 1.8 has 128k on the clock, is a G reg and uses no oil whatsoever, but has a slight tappety sound. Things to try before you plunge into spending on cam chain or tappets :- 1) Check that your oil pressure is good enough to supply oil to the top end of the engine. Insufficient pressure will result in lack of oil getting to the cam, tappets etc and cause them to become noisy. 2) Try an oil change to a thicker grade, say a 15W 40. A thicker oil has been known to quieten down tappets on some valvers. This being a cheap possible fix and should be one of the first things to do if your oil pressure is sound. 3) lastly, try running the car on a high octane fuel such as Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate, Tesco Super etc. 1.8 valvers are supposed to be run ideally on a 97 RON fuel, NOT the regular unleaded which is only 95 RON. Lower octane fuel can cause some valvers to "pink" whereas some valvers will run happily on the weaker fuel. Pinking can be characterised by a metallic sound usually heard under load. Again this would be a cheap test do. On your next fill up make sure you have an empty tank and fill with a good quality high octane fuel. Probably Shell V-Power is best for the test. Hope this is of some benefit. I am by know means an expert on mechanics but i do know that it is common for higher mileage valvers to sound tappety!

Talking poo then

Is this a panel filter matey?
-
Isn't the cranking power of the ignition system a few thousand volts   or am i talking poo?
-
Got to echo the above. Ultimate is only 97 RON as opposed to regular unleaded 95 RON, so would not invisage any problem. Maybe the lambda sensor is faulty. I had a faulty one on a Renault 19 that was letting to much fuel through. The fuel ultimately choked the cat rendering it useless.

  what a total tw*t he is. Thanks for the heads up, i shall avoid him like an ex-girlfriend.

Who did you buy the lamp off as a matter of interest? I have been bidding on lamps this past 2wks and don't fancy getting stiffed by the same kn*b cheese if he's flogging more.

Guys watch this its insane! specially if you like bikes

Great these turbocharged bikes, they spend most of their time on the rear wheel! Awesome machines, definitely not for the inexperienced!!! And that dump valve was mad on a bike. Would have sounded much cooler with a Blitz super sound rather that the HKS jobbie though. -
Just buy one with a sunroof. Much easier. If i was looking for another Rado i would love a non-sunroof model.

You didn't happen to be waring your uniform at the time did you? :porc:   Haha! I knew there was a reason for it

Corrados and wet corners and hedges don't mix!

Shouldn't that be "On the flipside"!!!!!!! :D Seriously though, glad your alright. Life has a cruel sense of humour sometimes. You have to climb out of a wreck unscathed only to crawl through the stingies! -
Its only happened to me twice in fairness and as mentioned above, getting a shoeing of the Germans in footy is enough to bring it on too. I'm just taking my chances because i like the look of the full on German look :)

Deffo go for the full hog and a mug with D logo, German font and stadt stickers. Had mine on for 8 months with no probs whatsoever (yet). I've had 2 traffic cops sat behind me since having them on and did not get pulled over. And its the traffic units you need to worry about mainly, not so much the panda's. As mentioned above, just keep a set of legals in the boot to change over if you do get tugged, i do. I would echo what has been said regards going the full German look over half German half British because as daft as it sounds, i think they really do fool people into thinking the car is German. I've had 4 colleagues (one with 28yrs service) at work now ask me why i have a German car, and yes i'm 5.0! :porc: Coupled with what must be double figures now of people who have asked the same question, point at the plates as i drive past, and i have even heard one lad say to his mate "Look, German" when i drove past! But, theres always a but! I'm sure there are plenty of people who have been pulled over for having them, but would be interesting to see how many of those were full on German style over half & half. On a more serious note though. I have experienced on 2 separate occasions hostile gestures directed towards me when on the road. First off i was driving along a road with nobody behind me when the guy driving a car travelling towards me leant as far forward over the steering wheel as he could and flicked me the bird and gave a blast on his horn  Now maybe it was because he was driving a Vauxhall coupe SE2 and i was in a much cooler car, i dunno! But after the very similar second incident i have a different theory. The second time involved me following a car down a small street which had been blocked off which required us to have to 3 point turn back out. I waited a good distance away from him to afford him plenty of room, and as he drove past me, bearing in mind this was a small side street with no other cars on the street, he looked at me, flicked the V's and mouthed something that looked suspisciously like "w*nker"! On both occasions there were no other vehicles on the road, they were definitely directed at me, i have no idea who they were, they would not have known what i do for a living because it happened in my home town back up north where i have not lived for nearly 4 years. My theory is (and i don't wish this to turn into some political debate) from working with the public in a very diverse multi cultural city, the hostility i have experienced for the influx of Polish, Bulgarians etc is shocking. I genuinely believe that the 2 guys who displayed their anger thought i was foreign. I cannot think of another reason for it. I know my car is not a left hooker, but as mentioned my German plates have fooled an awful lot of folk now, including 4 coppers. I have not experienced any such behaviour in Cardiff i must add. Maybe because Cardiff has been a diverse city for decades. Interestingly both times were in my home town which has to be said is small and not diverse. Small town small minds maybe?? Apologies for the long thread! I thought it worth mentioning because i remember reading somewhere (maybe here?) that someone had their car trashed by a drunken couple walking home from the pub because they thought the car was foreign because it had foreign style plates on. And i'm convinced that my car could suffer the same back home if parked up after what i have witnessed.

Check there is no bare wire on the loom that may be coming into contact with metal work when the seat is moving.

She could have at least got them out. Teasing only works for so long then i get bored! -
Thanks to this being brought to my attention this afternoon, i spent a chuffing hour sifting through 35 fookin pages of posts!! In a nut shell the seller does say in the end (or in so many words) that the VX is the crashed one in the photo's the mods posted, and that he has stiffed the new buyer. Whether he's just trying to wind everyone up is anyone's guess, as he does get quite the hammering from everybody!

I have a pet spider that lives in my offside wing mirror. I jet wash the car, he loses his intricate web, come the morning, a brand new web. Had him weeks now...awww.

I didn't check how many litres i got from £30 Super, but it was priced at 98.9p so prob got around 31 litres. My driving is best described as steady, not Miss Daisy but not like someone constantly late for work either. I don't razz the car much though purely because the car isn't what you would call fast and it just doesn't seem worth doing it. The roads were all inner city heavily urban types and my journey to work is a 16 mile round trip 4 times per week. Hope this helps Monkey :)

Just used the £30 Tesco Super and returned 190 miles. So safe to say the full service i had did bugger all for fuel economy :(

Make sure the p/steering fluid is topped up and have a new belt fitted for peace of mind as they're cheap. If it still makes the noise then you will have to look deeper. Do the cheap/easy fix first though.

I went to that museum in Kendal in May this year. The batmobile looked cr*p. I didn't look real, almost looked cardboard. The DeLorean was cool though 8)
