Ditto the above. My oil temp on the MAF at worst can hit 110 sat in traffic on a hot day. Then drops straight away to 104 when fan kicks in and still sat in traffic. Once on the move will drop again into the 90's. I have done 10k in the car now like this, including journeys of 300 miles with no probs whatsoever. The water temp never reaches the halfway mark. 1990 1.8 valver with 127k on the clock. WELCOME 8)

Turbo boost hose?? Test drove an Audi A3 110 TDi that had no pull. Felt like a normally aspirated diesel. Took it back to the dealer and told him there was something wrong with it. Turned out the hose had split. Had a similar prob with my Fiat Uno, but this time it was intermitant. Sometimes it would kick in nicely on boost, other times it was flat as. That turned out to be the turbo boost hose popping off as the jubilee clip wasn't secured properly.

Very, very nice mate. That 3rd piccy makes the cover look see through, showing just how high a standard it has been polished. 8)

Should be fine, although the G60 zorst will prob have a cat where as your valver does not. You would need to source a part to replace the cat.

Probably why its only done 100 miles in 3 years! You would not want to be seen driving it and the ride must be appalling.

I've just returned 220 miles to £30 of regular Tesco unleaded, all town driving. Pretty good considering i get 190 miles from Tesco's Super unleaded which i always use. Just filled up this morn with £30 Super to compare with the regular unleaded to see if it was the service i have just had which has made the difference to economy, or just that you get more for your money with regular motion lotion.

I was driving my car around for at least 6 months with the goosed mount. Did plenty of trips back up north (430mile round trip) and the like with no probs. I asked a mechanic if it was safe to drive and he said it was. The car just gave a small thud when setting off in first gear and was generally less nice to drive with the pooped mount. I didn't drive the car hard though as i didn't want to break anything else. However i'm not sure this was best practice though :)

I finally had my front engine mount replaced 3 weeks ago as it had split all the way around. I got one from Gwent VW in Newport for £33 incl delivery, and its a Febbi one which from reading a previous thread are one of the better makes. GSF wanted £37. My local spanner man charged £20 to fit it.

Yeah the valvers aren't brill on the economy front considering they're pretty poor in the speed department. Some folk say the 2.0 are less economical than the 1.8. There's a thread somewhere discussing this very issue where lots of folk posted their economy figures. I get 190 miles from £30 with pure town driving and thats driving pretty sensible with just the occasional blast. My C is a 1.8 with 127k and FSH if thats any help. I would make sure your service parts such as oil/filter change, air filter, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and fuel filter are new or recently changed as any of these if in poor condition could have an adverse affect on fuel economy. And all the bits are cheap, apart from the leads. A dizzy cap and arm will be under £10, plugs, again £10-£12, air filter £7 approx. Not sure on fuel filters but they are under £20.

Awesome :D Would be cool to compare my humble valver.

SONICROT.....I've never had the pleasure of driving a supercharged car. Hopefully one day :D DAVE.....I'm with you on your last comment. I vowed never to own another French car after that. And i have still been true to my word 8yrs on :D

They dont like to be revved???? As old a design it may be the valver is vw's true racing engine, with under piston cooling jets and sodium filled exhaust valves it is very advanced even today . Put a decent turbo on that thing and it will own all of you  If i only had the funds for a turbo conversion. Turbocharged cars are by far my fave. Had 3 now (one still stored) and always miss them. As for piston cooling jets, Uno Turbo's have those to!! I still think the valver engines sound harsh though. Comparing it to the engine that was in my Reno 16v which was essentially the same being 1800cc, twin cam and 137bhp, the Rado engines just sound rough as. The Reno unit was so slick and quiet, they were worlds apart.

Thinking of buying a VW Bora as I family car....
jonnyboyo replied to C. Will Corrado G60 2's topic in General Car Chat
Will G60....My mates 150 TDi Bora is mega cheap to service. It had some sort of option when new that allows the servicing to be done i think every 2yrs for something like £180. Walesy...The above Bora has had a tuning effort fitted that was sourced from ebay for £28. My mate fitted it himself very easily and it made a good difference in performance too. -
Walesy ...Yeah its a good stretch for some traffic light grand prix starts! Jackflash....are you on limited mileage with your classic policy??
-
I'll spray my car to match  Would appreciate first refusal though when you get round to selling 8)

Fancy selling them?

One of these scared me to death last month giving it some pasty up Lloyd George Ave down the Bay. I had my window right down on the opposite road and was in a world of my own. Then without any warning whatsoever an almighty boom, scream, roooooooooooooooooooar blasted right in my ear hole. I nearly shat myself  all i could do was freeze!! Looked in my rear view mirror to see an acid orange one tearing up the road :) How the heck i didn't see this coming in that colour is beyond me

Am i right in saying that there was a thread where someone was looking into manufacturing some but nothing came of it?

Unfortunately i have know idea mate. I had a Rocco that had the exact same fault but i never bothered fixing it as the speedo still worked. I did notice on the odd occasion though that the numbers on the mileometer tried to turn unsuccessfully, they just made a slight 'click' sound as though something was preventing them from turning.

I used to hit the limiter now and then on a Renault 19 16v i had as that car revved so freely it was unreal. The power just used to suddenly dip for a split second when you did. It felt fine though, no weird jolts or cutting out. Not sure how the limiter would feel on a valvers old fueling system. If someone could shed some light? :)

The big 'family' Ferrari's never hold their value.

Mate of mine picked up a TDi 150 Bora this year and it awesome. I can't believe how quick it is, its obscene! He got an 03 plate with 103k on the clock (ex-company jobby) all the toys like digital climate control for £5,250. Plus its a minter. I think they make a great family car. -
I think valvers sound pap. Strained, course, rough as though they really don't want to be revved to the redline. To me it sounds almost like your killing them when doing so. Agreed, they do have a nice sound at idle though. Rocco's are the same. Ok they're 8v carbs or inj, but they show the same traits as Rado engines. They just don't sound sweet at all. At the end of the day these valver engines are ancient technology which is why i think they aren't very sweet sounding. But i love my ickle old valver anyway
