Is it safe to say the stealers price is a joke then?
-
Can anyone tell me how much these are for an 1990 1.8 valver please, and where to buy em from? :thumbleft:
-
Its the Mclaren F1 LM as seen in THIS rather large picture. Drooooooooool!!!!!

A chuffing Festa :censored: grrrrrr :censored: And it was firkin 5 up and i only had the g/f in mine. I pulled onto an A road from a roundabout and put my foot down as you do, i looked in the rear view mirror to see this black Festa on my tail. Kept my foot planted to 90 but we both stayed in the same position :( It looked like one of those 1.6 Zetec S efforts but was de-badged. Wasn't a nice one either. Valvers are poo man. I mean, spanked by a 1.6 Fiesta which was FIVE up. :( :(

I love turbo'd Jap cars. Really miss ma GT4 :( You have defo made the right decision buying the R mate. They still pull mega bucks if straight and mechanically sound. Take a flick through the ads and you will see good uns pulling 4k on a H-J plate with similar mileage. Just make sure the gearbox is A1 though as they are notorious for having chocolate gearboxes. Its 2nd gear that usually gives in. I once read a buying guide on GTIR's which stated that anybody wishing to buy one should expect to have a new/rebuilt box during ownership, and to leave a 1K reserve in the bank as its that inevitable. Awesome car though. Wouldn't mind it myself.

Bump. Anyone tried one of these or knows someone who has?
-
I'm not exactly sure of the costs, but i think for a standard rebuild it costs approx £350. Best to contact G-werks or pm them as they use this forum.
-
Not over fussed on the bling thing as it would just make the rest of my engine look cr*p! Do they give any sort of induction noise, or difference in sound over the placcy pipe?
-
Just been offered one as a freebie but don't have any idea if they're any good, best to avoid like the plague, what advantage if any they offer etc. Any info would be much appreciated before i fail to resist a freebie and fook my engine up or something!

Hi mate, welcome to the forum :D I've no idea what those numbers mean either. The chargers probably just a non VW unit sourced when the original threw its hand in. If there is no charger history with your car and there is no way of checking when it was last rebuilt, i would give the chaps at G-werks a ring in a view of giving it a health check or rebuild for peace of mind. G-werks are regarded by everyone on here as the best in the business and always have them look after their chargers. Hopefully the G60 crew will be along shortly to offer more insight than i can give, being a humble valver driver n' all

How to remove and clean the Idle Stabilization valve (ISV)
jonnyboyo replied to flyferrari's topic in Engine Bay
As far as i know i think the isv's cost £120-ish, or not much more. So not a total disaster if you ruin it :) -
Personally i've always used wash/wax on every car i have had and the finish and wax protection have been first rate. Ok, i still hand wax when i can, but in the wet winter months this gets neglected more which is where the wash/wax steps in, and my paintwork repels water for weeks. I use the Simoniz wash/wax you have to shake to mix the wax. This stuff seems to have a high wax content which you can feel between your fingers, and is not expensive either.

Many thanks for the speedy, informative replies everyone. I have a new steering wheel that needs fitting so will try and source the problem then :)
-
Nice one. Thats put my mind more at ease. Do you know roughly how much the new column mount is from VW?
-
Just taken a look at the column now, and there definitely is no adjustable lever to be seen. Am i looking at a new rack or steering column then?
-
On a slightly embarrassing note, i didn't realise the column was adjustable for height being an early valver. I'd better nip to the car and take a look now.
-
I seek wisdom as my steering wheel has developed a few millimetres (no more than 5mm) of up and down play. There is non side to side, just up and down. My car is a G reg 1.8with 126k. Is this owt to worry about or gonna cost me a fortune in the long run, or should i bow out now and flog it before the big bill arrives? Many thanks.

Oops! Fairly obvious really :)

Whats a casher??

If there was ever a statistic to remove the darn car wrecking, world poluters, then that must be it.
