  1. Thanks for the nice comments fellas. It was about time I got this one in here. I've been utterly useless getting my photos sorted out and reduced in size though; but thanks to Vornwend, that's now sorted. So you can expect more when I get organised. Yes the 'charger is great. I am getting very used to the 'charger whine, and I'm loving it!! apparently it gets quieter as time goes by...not really too bothered. But there is a real racket in the car at about 3000rpm. Not so much the charger as the engine without the 'cat fitted. Its really quite boomy. Still I'm living with it all pretty happily, and it puts a massive grin on my face everytime I start it up, let alone drive it....
  2. Well, I've owned my car for a little over six years now. I've only been on here a few months but reckoned it was about time I got some pics of the mota up. Being involved with the CCGB but also having been to 3 CF meets now, I've had a chance to meet quite a few of you nice people and admire loads of great cars. Well here's some photos of mine. Some of you will note that there have one or two changes under the bonnet since these were taken in Feb this year. When I get sorted, I'll get some of the new bay. In the meantime, enjoy the pics of it how it was until just a few weeks ago!! :D
  3. I am no way an expert on this but have it fitted to my s/c VR. The theory is that not only does it lower the inlet charge temperature, but when you are running bigger boost, and thus hotter temperatures, it reduces the risking of pre-detonation and thus serious damage to your engine. As I say, I'm no expert here, but anything that is going to reduce the risk of engine damage, and perhaps also give more power, has got to be a good thing. Its not cheap, but I would then also go for the DDS3 cockpit gauge that will allow you control over the Aquamist in-car. You can then turn it on and off at will. All fitted, I reckon you would be looking at around £400-450. If you fit yourself, bet on about £300-350. For definitive advice from people with more experience of it, try stormchargedvr6 and Cheesewire. HTH
  4. Glad you got the cat issue sorted Dave, for the MOT. Was it that the MOT tester wasn't prepared to be flexible at all - if you know what I mean??
  5. Goldie, great to see you today. Thanks for the trip out in yours. That KW stuff is good-- no doubt about it. Talk about me spending your money re the s/c etc. You just earmarked a load of my money I haven't even earned yet with those coilovers!! Hope you get the Schrick and cams fitted before Stoner. Keen to know what you think of them. You should defo get more bottom end to play with.
  6. Bad luck mate. Cost you the price of the MOT to find that out, but I'm confident you'll sort this minor problem out quickly.
  7. Dave, Mate, It was great to catch up with you yesterday and thanks for the superb run out in your car. Absolutely brill. Mine is fast now, but its the torque in the mid range on the VRT that I can never match. I really like that Jetex system too. Super impressed with how you are getting to grips with the MegaSquirt. I'm sure that when you read into it, its not rocket science but to me it looked quite technical. You seem to have it sussed though. Hope the MOT went ok. Did you have to refit the cat?
  8. ziderapple, Mate, any chance you could send me a photocopy of the instructions that came with your 'charger. I never got any with mine and would like to have a set to go in the folder.... If not, no bother. I'll get hold of NSR and get Raj to try and sort me out. Thanks
  9. Sounds defo like a dead car battery to me. That will affect the alarm for sure. Still got a Concept 50 myself. Luckily, don't have any real problems with mine, although I have always thought that the total closure bit on my alarm is too sensitive. When it rains, the flippin' alarm goes off. So I tend to turn the proximity bit off. Oh, and it does drain my battery flat if I leave the car for more than 2 weeks without touching it.
  10. Loving the e34 daily runabout. I use an old e30 325i as my daily transport, albeit an auto. But it just goes and goes (and its 20 years old this year). Cost me peanuts and I'd still sell it for more than i bought it for after 4 years. It defo owes me nothing. I'm sure yours will give you good service too. Good to see your VR install is coming along nicely.
  11. Quick note. I just collected a set of 288mm brakes and carriers off ChrisP. Good, quick sale. Helped we were able to meet up to exchange cash/goods. Thanks mate. Happy with the sale. Hope they go on the car no probs.

    Fitted 268cams

I am amazed you got them for this price, mate. Were yours brand new? I know they are considerably cheaper than the Schrick ones, but when I got mine only about 5 months ago, I know they were more like double that delivered (when you include import tax etc) and the exchange rate has not moved much at all since then. I reckon anyone else will stuggle to get them for this price. I am also surprised you say that you did not think they worked well with the Schrick. Experience on here has shown that the manifold should improve your torque low down up to about 3,500 rpm when the cams start to take over. Overall, you should have had a noticeably more responsive and powerful engine right through the rev range. The effect of the cams will be more pronounced without the Schrick on there. Incidentally, my VW VSR is staying on even though a 'charger is being fitted. However, my Dougherty 268s are coming out now, as Vince is fitting my 'charger. So these are going up for sale.
  13. Yeah, but you won't regret it. Money well spent. After all, the big expense ('charger) is done. Now, its polishing up everything else to make sure you get the most out of what you've got (6 branch, decat etc), and it all lasts (Head gasket, Aquamist). Replacing the cat' is a good thing..you are right about the heat.
  14. Other than sounding twice as good as a standard downpipe mate :) Do it fella - you'll love the sound. bit like a vr crossed with a scooby :) I've got the one in the link and absolutely love it. Going to go for the same de-cat too. Hey this is gooooood news. I've got one of these and the decat pipe in the post at the mo'. Should be going on at the end of the week. Frankly, not that interested in a power increase. I just want it for the noise... :)
  15. Dave. I cannot say anything that has not already been said in praise here...fantastic stuff. Looking forward to seeing it all running at our next meet.
  16. Dave, Good to see you twice over the wknd - Bath meet and CCGB AGM. We are all waiting to see/hear this marvellous creation, when you're ready to show her off. Possibly see you at the end of the month, if this next meet gets off the ground. :) edit...Dave, maybe in due course, you'd consider doing a piece on your mota for the Sprinter?

    VR6 Into 16v.

To be honest pal, given the amount of work involved and cost of all the parts you'll need to change/up rate, why not just buy a Corrado VR6? Do we take it you already have an VR6 engine? If not, why not consider going the whole hog and get either a 24v or a 3.2 engine? They are far more tuneable. Just a thought. In answer to your question, I can't help much really. Although I reckon you've covered most things. I'd definitley do brakes though. Extra weight and more power of VR=higher speeds and longer stopping distances. 16v stoppers won't be up to it. as you are going to be putting 5 stud hubs on, go for 288mm brakes and callipers from a late VR6 Golf or Passat.
  18. Thanks to Dave16V for the handle repair kit. Arrived in good order with instructions. Hopefully will get around to fitting it this week.
  19. Mate, You've done really well. I had you in the back of my mind as having bought that 'charger just around the New Year, because that's when I got mine. I still haven't had mine fitted, although it is booked in with Vince now, to get the whole thing done. Regretably, I don't possess the courage/knowhow or tools to strip down my engine and do the work myself, so the 'charger is being fitted for me, along with back to standard cams, Aquamist and an oil cooler. Should see you at the Bristol meet on the weekend anyway. Very keen to see the beast then. Will give me an idea about what mine will be like. :D
  20. I know you have had a Corrado VR6 on your show before - a silver one I think, filmed at an event at Gaydon Motor Museum. Unfortunately, I am down south, near Salisbury, so not much help to you, however, you should have no problems getting a bunch of good Corrados together for an article, from the guys on here who live further north. many of us have even mildly modified our cars, so you have definitely come to the right place! :)
  21. Awesome film. One of my favourites. Awesome car the S8 too. I'd love an RS4 too though. I could even be persuaded to sell my C in exchange for one of them! And there's not many cars out there I'd say that about!!
  22. I'll second that. Well done Steve. I read mine cover to cover as it dropped through the letterbox this morning. An unexpected bonus over breakfast!! :)
  23. At a friend's house in Gloucestershire a year or so back. Friend's stepfather came out of the house to meet us and clapped eyes on the - admittedly freshly polished - C and says "Ah, I remember these...You don't see many around nowadays. You must be a pretty discerning enthusiast". Wife rolled her eyes as I proceeded to show him round the car. The C looked great parked on the gravel out the front of their big family house too. :D
  24. Dude, Scary stuff. Thank goodness. Could have been curtains!! Hope you get it all sorted out.
  25. Great vids. 30-140mph is very cool! Certainly seems quick.
