Out cleaning the car in the sunshine this morning, after getting the car back form the garage yesterday. Our regular postman (a bit of a petrolhead) is on his hols, so a postwoman is covering his round. The car looked ace sitting on the RH ZW1's. I was in the house (filling another bucket or summit) when I looked out to see her standing staring at the car. As I took our mail from her, she was shaking her head saying how she wants a Corrado as she's always loved them :luvlove: . Know what she means !! :luvlove: :luvlove: :luvlove: :D

Well, there's been some spent on the ol' girl over the last few weeks/months - more than I care to admit :cuckoo: . However, its all good though and I'm falling i love with it all over again. Got it back yesterday from The Phirm, where I had a gearbox rebuild and Tim fitted my Peloquin. Then today, the RH ZW1's have come off and have been sold, and in their place I've put these little puppies - new Team Dynamics Pro Race 1's in anthracite (apparently). I think they look ace - mean and much more aggressive. Different to the ZW1's but the mtorsport look is the way I want to go now. More importantly, I needed rims that'll allow me to fit my new brakes. Photos of those to follow when fitted, but in the mean time, here's the new wheels. Shod with new BF Goodrich G-Force Profiles all round, as I really liked them on the ZW1's. (288mm setup looks lost under the wheels too! :| ... Not for long though. :D Complete brake overhaul starts tomorrow.

Good work Kip. As long as there are people like you and Jude who want to buy up all the Corrados for sale out there, it'll help all our residuals!! :D Defo a good move to get another 'Rado. Everyone needs to have a daily driver when they've got concours cars like yours to look after. There's no way I'd drive mine everyday now (although I did once upon a time), but then again, you cycle to work, don't you? I'd love to know what your neighbours think of you two!!

I have a brand new one of these sitting in the garage which I no longer need. Its the same as the one in the pic here - with the poppers...Your's for £20 delivered. :D

One of two ways if I understand correctly: 1. Using a chargecooler that fits in the battery location under the bonnet: Its been done by Shaun (stormchargedvr6) on this Forum. Look up his Members thread. Note that he ran a Schimmel chargecooler and Schimmel short runner intake too, to keep the pipework as short as possible, but its still lengthy as the pipework stretches from the 'charger, around the back of the engine and round to the chargecooler which is located in place of the battery, then off to the inlet. If you were trying to run this kind of cooler in this location with a standard VR6 manifold, you will have pipework doing a full lap of the engine bay!! which will result in pressure drops. 2. Using a cylindrical charge cooler as made by PWR and others, and using the standard VR6 manifold. There is just about enough space to fit a short and fat PWR 'cooler into the space between the 'charger and the throttle body, but not by much! It at least keeps the pipework as short as possible. Someone on here was running that setup..forget who now. CrazyDave (use Member's Gallery again) uses a PWR charge cooler though, if you want to see what one looks like. Note that they come in different shapes and sizes for different applications.

Mrs B, Its great to be excited about getting a new mota'. I was just like that 3 weeks ago before I got my VR Golf. Ahh, and the sound of barely modded NA VR6 engine - takes me back! :luvlove: I'll never get bored of it. 8) -
Chris, great news buddy. So pleased its all back together finally. Will have to have a Bristol meet so I can come over and gawp. I've seen the car outside your parents' place several times now; its just 'round the corner from my sister's flat, so I'll keep my eyes open the next time I over, for a green VR 24v screaming past... :D

Just my 2p worth: Do you really need either? What kind of 'charger have you got, and what kind of boost are you expecting to run? Intercoolers and chargecoolers are fine except that they increase the amount of pipework that you have to fill when boosting (however short you try to keep it - ie with a short runner etc) and secondly, I'd question whether they are even necessary on a VR6 up to about 8 psi. My 'Vortech V9F runs 8 psi (Stage 2 - about 280-290bhp), and I have Aquamist fitted as a safety measure but no other form of inlet charge cooling. The Aquamist only comes in a) when I switch it on and b) when the engine climbs above 4500 rpm. Aquamist has come in for some stick on this Forum in the recent past although has been fine with me. Nevertheless, I think its fair to say that if you are running up to 8 psi, there's little requirement for cooling. Going Stage 3 (11 psi pulley) and above? then fair enough. With that out of the way, now rejoin the perennial debate about whether to charge or intercool... :D

MK3 VR6? - Mrs B has bought one!!!! Pics page 4

I have recently bought myself a Highline VR as a daily. I knew what I wanted and was just really fortunate that the first one I looked at pretty much ticked the right boxes. It is also low miles and was a very good price. Its not mint though, and there’s a small ding on the front panel beneath the VW badge that I’ve got to fix, the Solitudes are in a bad way and I think its got a minor coolant leak. Good late Mk3 Golf VRs seem to go for around £2500-3000. And Highlines are about £500 more. But, as you know, condition is everything. I also went for an auto, reasoning that they are less likely to have been thrashed. There are some nice looking VR Golfs on Pistonheads, but generally speaking it’s the age old adage that always applies: you get what you pay for. -
I got my heatwrap off the 'Bay, matey. Cost me about £50 for copper coloured 50ft length (15m) and is 2in wide. 50ft is just enough if you plan out how much you need for each bit of pipe in advance. I did a write up about wrapping my Raceland manifold on my Member's Gallery: About half way down the page... viewtopic.php?f=11&t=57034&start=15 I do recall I had a spray bottle of water on hand the whole time to keep the wrap wet though. HTH :D Charlie

Cheers guys. You're all too kind. :D I've had a quiet night in with a few beers - having a more lively time next weekend though! :D
-
I missed the episode on Sunday, so I'll be on the llokout when I watch the re-run, now. :D

Matey, that seems like a good price to me. Hopefully kadvr6 (Karl) will be along in a minute. That's what he's been up to and I know he got a pretty good price on his set up. If you pm him, he might be able to help you out with other contacts to source one if needs be. Storm Developments can make you up an R32 loom with Emerald ECU that will connect into the standard clocks, I believe. Again, Karl can give you the details.

James, Sorry to hear your engine's gone pop, but I'm following all this with interest. I too have a T70 turbo and I am planning on having the exhaust side reduced in size to aid a quicker spooling. All being done in July / August. Hope your back is better soon, and you're able to get back under the bonnet soon.

Muchos respect....this is great stuff. Loving the engine bay screen shots too.

Some tips on keeping a convoy together
chazrad replied to dinkus's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
...tie all the cars together with rope... :gag: But seriously, a good post Dinkus; stuff everyone should know. In the military, convoy commanders give complete sets of orders (instructions) to all drivers and vehicle commanders before setting off, including actions on breakdown, separation etc, and everyone has a route card too!!...probably a bit of overkill for a few 'Rados travelling together though!! -
Really good job, matey. Great work. The car looks fantastic. as has been said, it looks sooo different from when you bought it. VRT power....brill! Looking forward to mine. How's the T-70? Is it very laggy? Is there anything below 4.000rpm? and what kind of power is it putting out at 9psi? I take it you are running standard injectors still? And, thanks to Dave's box of tricks, a MAF also? :D
-
Pretty sure its the same as the Mk3 Golf VR6 mount mate.

Just like to say a big thanks to the great bloke that is Alex303. Alex, thanks fella. We did a deal on his intercooler and some pipework and he went to great lengths to chase up one part of the kit that was missing initially - whilst all the time preparing to go travelling, and then even following it up when he was away on holiday. All this and he wouldn't accept payment until I had received it all!! :D Its a pleasure to do business with such an nice, honest chap. Thanks Alex.

You can say that again. What I've suspected for years..... :( And you're an ex-VW mechanic, so you'd know!! Mine never goes anywhere near a stealers!
-
Bad luck mate. Feel quite sorry for you, really. Just when you'd done all that good work to get the car running again after stripping it all down and rebuilding it. :( Still, look on the good side...this could be the opportunity to sell the charger and put the money towards a 24v 2.8L or R32 conversion! :D Let us know what happens matey.

....so when you've got a misfire and all else fails.........
chazrad replied to H8RRA's topic in Engine Bay
Holy f@@k a duck.. Now that's impressive!  VW - reeeeespect for clearly engineering the VR6 to be so strong !! -
I am of the opinion that: 1. this ever increasing amounts of ridiculous legislation to tell us what we can and can't do, behind the wheel, in the countryside, in the street, behind our own closed front doors etc. is ignored entirely by the idiots it seeks to target. 2. secondly, there's no one to enforce any of it anyway. Where are all the policemen? Doing paperwork at their desks, that's where...because the sha;;ing government demands evermore statistics and league tables for performance measurement. There are no traffic policemen to correct the poor driving we see everyday, the driving mobile phone users, the non-seatbelt wearers and those driving with head/side/tail lights out (..that'[s a real bugbear of mine! :D ). There used to be 24 traffic officers working out of Salisbury police station in Wiltshire. There are now 6! Road safety/highway code enforcement just isn't a priority. :?

I have the KW Variant 1s and they're great. I spoke with a specialist and he recommended them - as a number of people on here will do - as the best make available on the market at the moment. By all accounts the quality of Koni coilovers has deteriorated over the last couple of years and a number of people have had problems with them. I was warned off the FKs too, as they seize. So there you are. If I were you, I'd look at KWs. If I did it again, I'd probably spend a little more, and go for the KW Variant 2s just so I've got the ability to adjust the damping if I ever felt the need to.

Here, here. :D
