Pete Griff's 'Rado R32 - (Not quite!) Alive at last! :D
chazrad replied to pete_griff's topic in Members Gallery
Yes, exactly... really looking forward to hearing that this is finally sorted, Pete. It seems to have been ages since the engine went in. I'm sure you are even more eager than us to hear it running properly though! :D :D Keep us updated. -
I would budget for around £1000 (incl VAT) for Stealth Racing (Vince) to do the job for you. His work is excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending. Otherwise, see if you can recruit some help from a few of the knowledgeable guys on here to help you do it all yourself. You'd certainly save a load of cash even after paying for all the beer, chips, pies etc!! :D Where are you based?
-
Yeah, same size as the 'Rado wheels. Re the belt, it was in the boot of my car, in its cardboard box. Might Tim have used a new belt when he fitted the 'charger to your car? You might give him a call to find out, but otherwise, I'm content you have it.

I hope you have plenty of luck selling it, Michael - should you come to that. As Karl says, it will be a shame to see you move on, but I suppose it happens to even the most 'dyed in the wool' enthusiasts at some point. I just hope you'll realise what you're missing out on quite quickly and come running back.. :D
-
I've always liked TT comps - even if they are relatively common - and I'd love some for the Golf. :) Would they fit over big Brembos though (ie. on the Corrado) ?
-
I can recommend Godspeed and I can also recommend Bill Brockbank aka 'Badger 5' too. HTH

I'd be doing precisely what you have chosen to do, Pete. Go with the Vag-doctor if he does this kind of thing all the time; and like Karl says, its in the right place for him to sort out all the fault code problems too. I am sure Vince will get his R32 workarounds and mapping sorted very soon, but you'd be mad not to go to the person who is currently leading the way... BTW, where are you posted to next? -
Jason, I take it that's my kit The Phirm have fitted to your car. Glad you're happy with it. :D I can't believe how quickly they've fitted the 'charger to your car, given you only gave the car to them a couple of weeks ago...they've had mine for f@@kin' ages!! :( Still hope to get it back soon. Well, drive carefully...and your next mod should be a Quaife/Peloquin - you'll never look back! :D Cheers for now, Charlie

Great news Pete. So pleased you've got it sorted. I'm sure Vince will sort you out today with a great setup. looking forward to hearing some sound clips of the car....then seeing it in the flesh soon!! Oh! ...and you can update your sig now too!! :D Charlie -
My folks live in Chepstow and say they see the odd Corrado around. I ask whether its VR6, G60 or 16v they've seen and they look at me blankly, replying something like, "It was a blue one" :? :D . I'm down there occasionally for the weekend, but never see any others!! :( . When mine's back on the road in the New Year, I'll be down visiting and on the lookout again.

You are into more subjectie territory here matey. You'll get a bunch of people telling you differen things. You also do not say how much you have available to spend. My advice: spend the most you can to get the biggest disc kit you can. Swept area is what its all about - the more the merrier! Obviously, Alcon and AP kit is best, but failing that, a nice big Brembo 323mm kit is really good too. I'd also say think about pad choice: O recommendation from a number of people who use their cars on track and road, I've gone for the Ferodo DS2500 pads, which are very good. :D
-
Do a bit of a search. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I reckon you will struggle to find a definitive answer, as no one can honestly say they have tried all combinations, and thus give a truly objective answer. My 2p: I used to like Pagid fast road pads with (280mm) standard discs, but I'm not sure you can get them anymore. EBC's are ok, but think about the red stuff pads for more serious use, I reckon. HTH

Agree with everything you say here!! What a race though! Nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory! :D I'd love to know what happened to Glock. Hope we find out. And the Ferrari crew reaction was absolutely brilliant!! I nearly wet myself!

Another good update, Pete. Keep it coming. Not long now... :D -
They are ok. They add a small amount of bhp but its more the noise you buy them for I reckon. Raceland ones are a good price for what they are. They are worth wrapping just to be on the sfae side, so they don't melt anything under the bonnet. Dubpower do one also - very well made, but quite a bit more expensive at around £300. I will have a Raceland one (with only 4000 miles on it) for sale in a few weeks once my turbo's on. Let me know if you are interested.

I have to say that I prefer these wheels in bronze. They look ace on your car. I am a big fan of this 'Rado in general...everything is just right. Awesome acceleration, great brakes, diff, the interior...the whole package. Don't change anything Marcus!! Just enjoy it. :D
-
Welcome back Michael. Hope all's well. Will be good to catch up sometime soon. I take it you're up north of the border full time now. Well, if you're ever down around the south, then give us a shout.

Yes, he does mate. There's a few of us on here. :D -
Yeah, I'd agree with £5K, certainly no lower. But the market's not good at the moment, so it depands on how desperately you need to sell and how quickly. How much did Stan get for his 24v when he sold it last year?
-
Hi buddy. I don't know if its any help, but I've just changed over my rear calipers for a set of Mk4s, and have my standard VR rear calipers sat in the gargae. They are in perfect working order, have pads and braided hoses. I could sell to you if need them. HTH :D
-
Cheers mate. Due to get the car back from the garage tomorrow with all new brakes. Even had the master cylinder replaced so it sjould all be tickerty-boo and 100% reliable. Report on the progress to follow... :norty:

Coullstar, they are 7x17's Pro Race 1's. Its the Pro Race 1.2's that have the 'Team Dynamics' writing around the edge - not my thing! They are also ET30, rather than ET35, so they sit that little bit further out and fill the arches. I may have it a bit too low though - may wind it up about 5mm - as I had a bit of rubbing this morning, first time out with them on.
-
Hi Andy, I was only thinking this morning that wheels are the same colour as your painted Speedlines, which I always liked. The gearbox feels nice and tight, and the clutch is great too. I realise now that there must have been a little bit of slop in my standard clutch, in that it had never been bled properly; there is no slop now - just firm and precise. It is a little heavier than stock, but its no Lambo clutch! :D I haven't driven the car very far yet, but you can defo feel that the Peloquin is there. On straight smooth tarmac, it is 'invisible' but on uneven tarmac, and when you boot it, you can feel it working. I haven't had the car on gravel (of course), and I haven't booted it on wet roads yet, but there is absolutely no wheel spin...at all. all the power gets down to the road, even out of junctions. I need to try my first proper roundabout too! :D all in all, I pretty happy. Just dropped he car off for the brake work too.....

Vaughan, those are fantastic gains from the 263s and remap. Good work fella. Vince certainly knows his onions. The car looks great now. Only other things now would be bigger stoppers and ARBs. To do much more now is either going to spoil it or is going to cost you big bucks. Time to enjoy it though. :D
