All good suggestions so cheers for that, I'll be straight down Halfords after work to buy a plug tester..Wish me luck

ha, It's amazing what us Valver boys will do to squeeze out a touch more power isn't it. I was thinking about it myself so let us know how you get on.

Its an absolute waste of money but I do love a pimped out engine bay. Yours looks wicked, I bet your using any excuse to open the bonnet now aren't ya. You just can't beat good old fashioned lumps of metal with all the bits hanging off them...Can't stand the whole plastic engine cover thing that every car on the planet seems to come with these days.
-
yeah I took the whole lot off, Funny you saying that though as when I put the injectors back in they didn't really seem to pop in like the last time I took it all apart. They seem seated well enough though. Is it easy enough to change the little seal bits on them?

Sorry just read this reply after I wrote mine. I didn't replace the gaskets as I only fitted it originally a few months ago, They seemed in good enough condition. Would a leak somewhere along the inlet tract cause this kind of thing? It's bizarre, I can be driving along happy enough then for a second or two my engine will just completey die then kick back in again. Idles fine, sounds fine, still performs with the blisteringly pants performance a Valver does normally, Just this one annoying little fault it's decided to aquire.

Thanks for the feedback, I should've made myself a touch clearer though. My rocker cover was polised on the outside only and my manifold was powder coated. I had a go at taking some of the carbon build-up off the inside of the manifold with a drill and a wire brush bit. I did an ok job at getting all the flakes of carbon out afterwards but I don't know if this could be a factor. If I've killed my engine then I'll probably set fire to my car with me in it...not easy this whole running a Corrado malarky is it

I am in urgent need of a bit of advice, Around a week ago I took my 50mm inlet manifold and rocker cover off to have them powder coated and now my C has serious issues. Since refitting them my C just loses all engine power for a brief moment from time to time. Today it got so bad that the car just died and wouldn't start. Turns over just fine and the fuel pump primes but it won't fire up. I fitted the manifold orignally and normally do quite a good job at being an amature mechanic but this time I've messed up pretty bad by the looks of it. Any advice would be appreciated as if it happens again on the way to work I'll be fired. Then I'll have to resort to selling my Valver and taking up a life of male prostitution. Breaking down and crying every time a Corrado drives past then throwing stones at it out of pure jealousy.

This sounds like one of those cheap as chips ebay mods that might be worth a go. Which golf has definately got one of those ecu's and is it worth doing? Any adverse effects etc? Also without sounding like a complete and utter numpty where is the ecu and is it an easy swop? Questions questions question... :?

Cheers for the suggestions, I did very nearly mess myself over the picture of that head (that sounded a bit suspect) but £800 is a touch on the steep side. Think the rolling road idea is the key as I've still never bothered, anybody know anyone in the west that they can recommend? Stealth is a bit of a drive as I live in Weymouth. I've got Janspeed in Salisbury but I've no idea if they're any good.

As with every other Valver pilot on the face of the planet I lay awake at night dreaming of more power. I long for the day my BHP figure is higher then my bloody 12mth road tax figure but that day is getting increasingly far away. My latest idea is the whole gas flowed inlet manifold thing, Is it a waste of 100 beer tokens or not. Along with getting the throttle body played with I've been told to expect returns of up to a massive 8bhp...ooooh I hear you modded G60 boys cry. Has anybody had their inlet gas flowed and seen good returns? Just dunno if it's worth it.

Although me and my valver doesn't put out the pure decibels that you VR boys do I didn't notice much of a difference in noise when I removed mine, And I do alot of motorway driving. Looks nicer too with a steam cleaned engine bay rather then crappy oil stained foam, I'd say leave it off. They only put it in there so as not to offend the delicate ears of anyone with enough wedge to buy a Rado from new anyway.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a 2.0 but my 1.8 has kinda won me over. I know its all about owning a VR or tuned G60 but just for having a bit of fun in I can't fault the 1.8 valver. Just feels light and spritely, You can launch out of lights nicely with easy to control optional wheelspin, throw it around and as long as you keep it in the power band it responds well. You do constantly find yourself staring at the Tacho waiting for the fun to start at 4 grand (especially with a 50mm inlet) but I can deal with that. Easy to repair too with parts from the mk2, only gripe is the lack of A.B.S has stitched me up on more then one occasion. I hit 60 in mine in 7.5 and top out at 140mph with a few suttle mod's that didn't evolve much work. I'd just buy a 1.8 mate and drive everywhere like a loony.
-
Sorry to open this one back up but I'm still none the wiser if a mk2 16v has the same exhaust manifold/downpipe as my little yellow bundle of love. Any idea's? Also whist I'm on here is there much difference in performance between the 2.0ltr and the 1.8 valvers? I kinda fancied something a little newer then mine but quicker and still with alright mpg and insurance.
-
To be honest apart from the stupid noise it makes when returning to idle it has made a fair bit of difference. Just makes the car feel a touch newer and smoother, little more eager and pull's a fraction harder. Haven't seen any great fuel savings yet though. I'd genuinely recommend them and for £35 good as new with the piper-x filter from ebay it would've been rude not to.

Sorry to jump on this but mine is vagely related so here goes... My bro' is scrapping his 1989 mk2 G 16v and he has a custom 4 branch exhaust manifold, I'm sure he bolted it straight in to his original system so whats the chance of it fitting mine and is it worth it?? As you can see from my sig I've got a 1990 valver, To my delight it's 0-60 time is down from a standard 8.9 to a self timed but consistant 7.5 all from the following mods.. 50mm inlet Drilled airbox (boy racer I know but sounds funky) Miltek full system Ecotek valve k&n panel For that time I reckon it's gotta have around 150bhp which is impressive given 117k on the clock. So boys and girls...Shall I bother chucking it on or not?
-
Yeah I didn't really think of that, more then likely a wheel bearing by the looks of it. Whatever it is now it's gone so I'm just going to pretend it never happened and keep driving my C like the ignorant fool that I am. M.O.T's in a week anyway so I'm sure that'll probably unearth something (and also end up costing me the same as one of those funny little islands in Dubai)....
-
Another week has passed and my C has given me another little problem to keep me occupied. I need some advice please if anybody has had the same problem as me, I get a knocking sound when accelaerating hard or soft which goes away as soon as I put the clutch in. It's quite load and it's in time with each revolution of my wheels, It also doesn't seem to make a difference if I'm going 'round a corner or driving straight. It sounds like its coming from the o/s/f wheel arch but its obviously not easy to test this theory. Just a touch worried as I have a heavy right foot and would prefer not to flip my C 16 times and end up on the other side of the M3 under an Artic' if it is anything serious. Inner/outer CV joint...Gearbox...Clutch...Help me people.
-
Thanks for the advice...I can feel I'm getting closer and closer to having a car that actually works, That'll make a nice change!
-
I've got the same problem too so I was gonna take my instrument panel out completely and have a look. Whilst it was out I was toying with the idea of converting the green backlight to blue. Thing is I cant get the thing out!!! I can pull it forward but I can't unplug the cables going into the back...How on earth is this done? Also what size is the nut that holds the wheel on cos I'm gonna change that whilst I'm messing about. I've been crawling through speed cameras at about 15mph I think cos I've got no idea what speed I'm travelling and its beginning to grate on me. Help please

Although I'm pretty new to it all I'm already hearing big things about Stealth... Problem is I Live on the South coast (Weymouth) so its a bit of a drive, Is there anybody more local for me that are recommended? If I get a rolling road tune am I gonna see much of an improvement? I got the powerboost for £22 delivered off Ebay and I'd say it has definately made an improvement, Nothing massive but worth the money on a high miler. Whilst i was spraying it in the whole car was shaking and the engine was making a funny noise with smoke poring out the exhaust so it was definately burning something...Probably my bloody valve seals knowing my luck

Although I'd love to fit n.o.s and destroy that mobile hair-dresser mobile (can't believe he sold his mk2 16v golf for it) it would probably involve me having to sell a limb to afford it thus making driving in general more challenging and being caught in a vicious more speed less limbs circle. Short of setting fire to it I'm gonna have to admit defeat from that one but the chipped 1.8T aint getting away that easy. The 2.0 bottom end sounds appealing. Cheers for the replies peeps :)

Hi all, This is my first post and I'm new to the forum so hopefully I get it right. I need some help with the age old problem of needing more power, I used to have the swiftest ride out of my friendship group but things have recently changed. In the past week two of my friends have got themselves an MR2 Turbo (hugely gay) and an Audi A3 1.8t (nice but no character). The Audi is no big deal until it gets chipped but the rice-rocket is a massive thorn in my side. I'm obviously safe in the knowledge that my 'rado is infinately cooler but needs power big time. I have a 1990 1.8 valver with 115k and the following little tuning mods: Full Milltek system 50mm inlet manifold K&N panel filter Recently been de-coked using ecotek power boost Can anyone suggest anything I can do that really won't cost the earth? Anybody had good results with chips, Powerboost valves etc? Cheers for listening
