  1. Can somebody tell me how important the flow of water is when deleting the factory oil cooler and fitting a Mocal? Reason I ask is that I've removed the factory cooler and joined the two pipes up but they seem fairly kinked and I'm not sure if water will actually flow through them, do they just run off the crack pipe then back onto it again or is it vital that I don't disrupt the flow? I've already killed one engine so I've grown rather fond of my currant one :)
  2. I know the late ones are more sound deadening and the early ones look cooler but which one runs the hotter oil temps? I have a metal one fitted which I caked in paint to stop heat transfer to the inlet manifold and now my engine runs 8deg hotter  I could sand it all off again but if the plastic one offers even lower temps as standard then I might just slap one of those on to save the trouble... Any ideas would be very much welcomed :)
  3. I've religeously used Castrol high milage on my last two C's...seemed like an obvious choice really but I'll give that Silkolene a go on the next change, always up for trying other stuff out
  4. Ok cool, Just running a bit smokey and oil temps are kinda high so I was hoping it was an easy fix, looks like that Mocal is unavoidable then :) Thanks for yet more advice
  5. Non-return valve on a VR, the one in between the inlet pipe and the rocker cover...which direction should the little arrow on the valve point? I put mine pointing towards my inlet pipe as that's what Bonrath put on the diagram when I fitted my PR, now it looks like oil has been geting through so I'm guessing it's backwards??? Anybody put this embarrising little problem to bed for me?
  6. They also redesign the size of the pullies to take less power from the engine, Same as turning off your creature comforts leaves you with more BHP through your wheels, I have noticed no adverse affects from mine and only good things. Battery stays topped up nicely, power steering remains unchanged...etc Admittedly I fitted mine at the same time as my cams but mine is now a free revving animal compared to what it used to be, As far as damping out vibrations from the crank, the only pully that would affect is the crank pully and it's only a couple of kg lighter, loads of people run flywheels that are massively lighter then that, I'd say get 'em but I'm biased :)
  7. I have 20mm adaptors at the front and 25mm at the back on my VR6, will I be able to run 15" 7j et52.3 porsche rims and will they foul my 288's? I'm useless with wheels, after buying a set of BMW rims and some 9j borbets that didn't fit, I really wanna get it right this time Cheers
  8. Yeah thats the one, I would've called it by it's marketed name but "Power boost valve" sounds pretty :camp: When I said forced induction I was reffering to Rado's, I know they are useless to G60 owners but want to find out peoples experiences running them on 2.0/2.9's, What you said about the map expecting a certain pressure is exactly what I'm concerned about, I don't know the specifics of how useful a raised fuel pressure under heavy acceleration/high rev's would be but FSE seem to know how to talk the talk. Not much money if they do what they say on the tin.
  9. I understand FSE regulators are overrated and useless on forced induction but could I expect good results on my NA cammed VR? Also will it need to be run with a standard chip as mine has a very mild ebay chip at the moment, which has given good results and I wouldn't want to have to lose it due to overfuelling at top end I have used the search but most threads seem to be people saying how pants they are on G60's...any feedback on a VR would be very helpful Cheers
  10. Only option you have on that front is to source a 16v golf ECU, the have a slightly more aggressive edge to them, team that with the golf inlet manifold and you should notice a difference higher in the rev range (you will lose low down torque though) You can pick the ECU's up for peanuts, they look identicle to the Rado ECU except all the grey bits are coloured green on the golf version, you'll know what I mean if you see it
  11. Both my valver before and VR and now approaching near comedy levels of unreliability, I can't think of a week gone by where I haven't fixed something on it. Admittedly it was more reliable before I dropped it, slapped bigger brakes on, then demanded it give me another 30bhp but if the Rado can't carry out these simple tasks for it's loving owner, then I can think of a whole list of rice rockets will.
  12. You haven't even put the lump in yet and you're already trying to make yours quicker then mine Give up Tom it's a loosing battle you know what I'm like, I'd sell my eyes to buy a supercharger and only ever drive down really straight roads if yours even came close :D Good luck with it though mate
  13. Anybody? Probably going to go with a small spacer and light grind combo, will this do it? What spacer shall I go for 6mm (3mm per side) or are we talking more like 20mm to stand any chance? This really is new ground for me so a helping hand would go a long way
  14. Yeah well silly old me thought I could slap them on no problem, for a second I think I forgot I owned a Corrado and just thought it was like any other normal car on the road. Put them on the car, torqued them down, went to pull away and it didn't move!!! Calipers just stuck to the rims.............oh happy days
  15. Any ideas? I don't want to start shaving my 288's down if I'm fighting a losing battle
  16. I tried fitting my newly purchased 9J's all round today and came across a big problem, the fronts hit the calipers :( Is ths a 288 thing or am I going to have a problem regardless? Spacers are out of the question as they only just fit under the arch. Shall I refit 280mm's, lay my hands on 7.5j's, or grind the calipers down? Did try a search but mine is quite a specific problem so it didn't help, any ideas would be awesome, I'm in an unhappy place right now
  17. OK mine may have been a fairly retarded answer but it was 3am and I couldn't sleep Didn't even think of the engine mount
  18. What part of the car does it come from? Silly question I know but is everything 100% secure (battery, toolkit/jack, etc) as it just sounds like it's a large object moving from the front of the car towards the back, then back again when you brake. It would only thud in lower gears as higher gears wouldn't give it the shunt it needs, then as cars deccelerate quicker then accelerate it wouldn't take that much of a heavy break to bring it back again. Not very technical but just a thought.
  19. Even without a map I noticed a big difference, great power gains and amazingly still fairly economical. Get 'em fitted sharpish
  20. It is hugely smile inducing, unfortunately my power to weight has got worse though...as all the paper in my wallet has been replaced with coppers in my pocket :) I do know what you mean, mine was like that. For me though it was kind of an investment. I had done so much to my valver that all I ended up doing was returning it to standard, selling the car, then selling all the shiny extra bits seperately. That way I lost very little through owning it and could afford the VR as pretty much a straight swop. Valvers are extremely underrated dont get me wrong, but it's because the VR is just so awesome that putting too much money into any other option just seems like treading water to me.
  21. Tombell999 you really are a bender, coming from somebody who sent me a step by step photo update of you spray painting a rocker cover, I thought you'd enjoy my little story. You were more excited then I was when I got it back on the road :D
  22. Thanks for the positive comments and taking the time to read my little story, just thought I'd share my happiness with the forum Corozin, that bill absolutely takes the biscuit! Makes me feel a hell of a lot better. When done right though, let's face it, you just cant beat 'em can ya

  24. I just thought I'd post a thread for any VR6 owners that have reached a point where they are starting to get bored and thinking about what else they could drive instead....stop thinking!! In January a sold my valver and purchased a VR, It put an unbelievably huge smile on my face but unfortunately it was a brief affair. My low milage engine suffered a serious overheat and upon opening it up it had become apparent that I'd melted a piston :censored: This all happened in March, I thought I'd use it as an excuse to make it quicker then it was before but I never thought I'd encounter as many problems as I did!! Since march I've had to source and fit a low milage 2.9, fit schimmel cams, trace a mis-fire that made me fail 2 M.O.T's (turned out to be a break in the loom), fit my 288's and then spend countless weeks/months trying to find a half decent pedal (turned out after fitting a new MC and braided hoses all round that the 288 calipers were knackered from the start!!)...etc etc It has been a nightmare from start to finish and a never ending money pit, If I was faced with it again then I'd no doubt break the car and buy another one rather then repeat what I've been through. But..... Every single second wasted and pound spent was worth it!!! I've had my car back for a week now, fully road legel, a far better all round package then it was before I killed it, and the way it makes me feel is like no other car I've ever driven. The sound, the relentless speed, the bags of tourqe, the look on the face of the RS Focus driver a few nights ago (when a 15 year old car made him look like an idiot) I love it!!!!!!!! Don't ever give up on your VR6 as it quite simply is irreplacable Little pic below of my completed rebuild (after a few sheets of wet and dry) vr6.jpg[/attachment:3hom5175] Finally I'm back and boy how I've missed it :D
  25. Looks sweet mate, think I prefer the cups to the Ronals. Bet the bloke you bought it off was exceptionally handsome and extremely gifted in the trouser department 8) Also this is a random place to put this thread, lay off the Orange Lucozade in future :drinking:
