  1. Crap pic but this was the state of my chain guides after 90k... no ratles... full vw service history at that time so cannot put this down to infrequent oil changes etc
  2. I have an 02J shift tower with 02M gearstick and cables and an Audi TT shift weight, its a great set up and not very expensive at all provided you can get hold of the shift tower. Nice short throw and good side to side. There is a post on here somewhere showing you what you need and how to do it.... I'll try and dig it out. Here is what you need: Gearlever/shifter cables - complete from mk4 R32 or 4mo with parallel pin ends on the cables Shifter tower in gearbox from 5spd 02J mk4 platform car (must have the same pin fitment to match cables) TT fore-aft shift lever see http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread ... t=tt+shift
  3. Now mine is back after my gearbox misshap.... I took it for a nice long run today, at 6am on the motorway it stayed at 76/78 then after the outside temp warmed up a bit, around 1pm it sat at 84/86.
  4. Yeah, as a temporary measure I have a Golf VR box and will be using the gearset from that and my Wavetrak diff. I will look into some more options for the longer term. I read up on cryogenically freezing stuff when I was building the engine, its being done on pistons rods and cranks, im not sure how sucessful it is. Looking into custom gearboxes / gearsets, I spoke to Elite Transmittions who were recommended by a friend with a 500hp fiesta cosworth. They will provide a custom gearset with one-off ratios (mmm 190mph top end), shot peened for strength.... but the downside is its £4000+ VAT.... and no warranty
  5. The first thing I have to say is I wish Iphones had better cameras LOL! :mad2: Yeah I can see your logic here Kev, unfortunately where it stripped so many teeth there was lots of swalf and chunks of metal in the casing, so this will require a full strip down. I think this was the first tooth to give way as its the worst damage on this cog This one shows the extent of the damage, more than one cog gave way LOL, Yep, I can do that with the Emerald as it controls the boost. I have a feeling the damage was done prior to that particular day, as I have raced Astons, Ferraris and even an SLR... all of these were in fitfh gear on motorways and were hard on/off the throttle. I think there was probably a stress fracture on one or two of the teeth and I was just unlucky that it let go when it did. Still I suppose being stuck on the M4 is less embarrasing then being towed off the quarter mile
  6. Sorry mate, I completely missed this post. The noise was definitley more erratic and more crunching then clicking... it sounded horrible when I towed to my mates garage so we could work on it. You are correct kev, on inspection 5th gear doesnt have many teeth left LOL. I'll post up some pics later
  7. Not too much actually, you need to sand down the edge so it fits flush to the bumper and join it to the indicator. (obviously you would need to spray the BMW scoop too)
  8. IIRC the inner arch liners on a vr had mouldings for these but no actual holes. This is a very good point Kip, I think we had our wires crossed, for some reason I thought you meant attaching these scoops into the fog light hole :cuckoo:
  9. I looked at this, you would have to chop a piece out of the centre and re-join it. Much more modification then whats required to make the BMW air duct fit. Interestingly, the E30 air duct pictured above is actually for the brakes! Cheers Kev. LOL yep, if I could remove the headlight that would be ideal! The biggest problem is the bumper iron IIRC, but you could route it up into the carbon canister hole and join it to the bottom of a stock airbox, this would also mean the incoming air would have to pass through the standard filter.
  10. For reference guys, with a bit of modification you can use the air scoops from the front bumber of an E30 BMW
  11. ^ Pretty sure that car is for sale on PH at the mo (sorry Kev, dont mean to highjack your thread mate)
  12. Yeah with the 3076 the boost kicks in almost immediately at motorway speeds. Thats interesting Kev, so I take it 5th is the closest cog to the end cap on the gearbox case. I have bagged myself a low mileage CCM box (Golf VR i think?) so I will be pulling mine apart at the weekend and having a look.
  13. Sorry Kev, bad choice of words LOL. Nope, no braking involved! Just touched the throttle to keep up with the car in front. Yep, I have the Wavetrak diff and used ARP bolts. Correct, I can select all gears and it drives, grinds and clicks like a bast*rd though. Certainly isnt like the last time my diff pin gaveway, this is what happened last time (when it was supercharged):
  14. LOL not at all Kev, but I do understand the logic :D I'll have a look at the drive ratio's in the other thread mate. Not exactly, I was in 5th, half way along the M4, doing 75mph in a flow of cars... literally touched the throttle to keep my distance from the car infront when all of a sudden POP! then a horrible grinding noise, some clicking too! I'll post up my findings after the post mortem.
  15. I must be getting confused here Kev. I do have the standard final drive in my box (I never changed it when mine was supercharged)... but I want a longer FD (does that exist??) Not at the moment, in all fairness im assuming its just bearings. However with the box off the car it gives me the opportunity change its characteristics, what I have noticed from quarter mile sprints and some spirited driving is that I would like each gear to be longer.
  16. Thats just not an option LOL! Think this might be the long term plan.... or 4WD :norty: I am definately considering a 3.3FD in the short term though, what box did you get yours from GVK?
  17. Well for those of you who wondered how long a rebuilt 02A lasts with 500bhp... the answer is 5000 miles! Mine went pop last week :bad-words: Now where can I source a 3.3 FD?
  18. Nice one Kev. Funny how much its evolved and all the different 'phases' its been through. Is that right.... I think I can actually see a pic of your car at a show.... didnt think you did that kind of thing mr wire?? Really makes me think I should get my lazy arse in gear and get my thread going!! LOL
  19. Does anyone read Practical Performance Car magazine? My car is on page 90 of this months edition, in Walkers World. Small write up about how nice it was to map and that he is impressed with the quality of schimmel parts, he says parts from American tuning companys dont usually get the figures they say they will.
  20. K&N do a dry filter sock type solution for this. When I had my charger I used a 180 degree samco hose to get the filter as high up as possible. The other option is to get Vince at Stealth to map it without a maff as the water that gets sucked up through the filter usualy kills the maff and thats what causes everyone these issues with chargers and wet weather.
  21. Yep I just got a call from Vince... Mine should arrive on Monday too :D
  22. LOL no worries fella, I only had to buy one new hose because i used the longest hose from the old set up as the shortest hose on the new set up - if that makes sense :D Oh, cheers for the your help with the info on the O2J shift tower swap... since doing that conversion to mine the gear selection feels so much better!
