gloss black ftw :D

karl the one in the vid and the uk r32 engined vento in bodies have both cut away the slam panel considderably and the golf has an extra inch or so between the rad and the inlet manifold :( ... i'm intreigued to see how they'll fit though as the sound'll be amazing 8)
-
try the 288 callipers on the carriers maybe - if they line up then sweet but they are mad by 2 completely different companies so i doubt it :(
-
I really like the look of the new rocco now... (bam my bloody neighbor for buying one in white so i see it all the time!) 3 years time... i'll wait and see what ex-lease deals are to be had!... like the new R one though 8)
-
thanks, we've been v carefull to leave the original flanges as intact as possible for maximum stength with the new floor. All this is possible cos although i'm not too bad with a grinder and chisel... ed's a pro fabricator/welder so we can happily swap when i've made a mess! My aim is to build the chassis how vw would have, so when its seam sealed and undersealed you wont be able to tell its had a new rear floor 8) ... i know the cage looks a little ott but i think we've all seen the pics of C's when they roll and both me and ed are 6'5" so our heads'll be pretty near the roof and this'll be a fun car so i think it's a wise move! - plus paul wanted rid of the cage at a very attractive price :D Cheers Sukh, the hours count has gone through the roof now tbh - there's probably at least another 10-15 in the rear floor getting it cut out like that, but i'm now a single man so i've had a lot more free time to do it  O and i dont think the previous owner was on here no, but i still have his address and i plan to send him a build thread photo pack showing him what his pride and joy has become  I was wondering if you had any free time this weekend from midday friday onwards as ed and i would really like to talk to you about a few things on the car and the logistics of wrestling the rear floor pan in as we cant fit it it atm! - the units only 10-15mins from your house
-
Well i thought i should post some pics of wat to remove to fit the mk2 syncro floor... this is how the car looks atm, although i will be going up there tomorow night to clean off all the old stich welds and the remnants of old panels. no1 - cut a bloody big hole in the middle then slowly remove spot welds front and rear to take out most of the wheel well panel no2 drill the spot welds out down the side of the arch and floor to remove the top of the chassis leg cover panel and remove with hammer and chisel v carefully and we cut excess off as we got a bit more done so it came out in pieces no 3 do the same on the other side... looks like cheese but have been careful to only go through the sacrificial panels with the spot weld drill on 95% of welds :gag: ... takes soooo long Your then left with this with a lot more careful cutting/sanding/drilling/chiseling you get to this stage - note the state of the wheel arch - previous owners fitted autochangers straight through the wheel arch so it rusted out and best of all they drilled and self tapped straight through the fuel filler neck - lucky i'm still here!
-
Lol! - it'll pretty much define the look of the car - i've seen the pics of what happens to C's when the flip and i dont fancy that! - plus to fit flat crabon door cards i'll need to remove some of the strength of the door so putting the cage with door bars in makes it nice and safe again :D but i dont want the stripped out look so i will be looking to trim in after the cars running with carpets and side panels
-
Keith, did you fit the cage yourself? - i have picked up the same cage today from a mate who wont be using it and according to the custom cages site the tubes should all be profiled at each end - this ones just straight cut, and it should come with a cd and mounts, came with the floor mount plates but no cd, did you recieve any of this with yours? what does the cd contain?
-
ok well et 32 17x8's will mean the wheel'll sit 15mm further out than a 17x7.5 et35 that i and alot of others are running on here. How low is it going to be and do you carry passengers in the rear?
-
Just for my benifit really tracking what i'm doing and when - went to london for jons birthday... sold my interior (will get the bases and switches sent out to you this week ads!) and came back with the cage i'd decided against fitting - thaks mark for putting the idea in my head again whilst drinking! o well, this.... climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfgarage.JPG[/attachment:7dzb0ppj] will become this when i'm done, custom cages multipoint cage, that and my 2 carbon seats should make it an interesting place to be! custom_corrado_cad.jpg[/attachment:7dzb0ppj] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfcustom_corrado.jpg[/attachment:7dzb0ppj] not sure when but seeing as i've sold my leathers i thought i should fill the space... o and i'm in the middle of designing a better/cheaper 02m corrado mount bracket than the one dutch build want 170 euros + delivery for :cuckoo: (thanks to doug lending me his shorter version 8) ) - will post pics of it when done and if a few people are thinking of this then i might make up a few
-
cheer up! mot's - lol - its american! and yeah its to low - but yopu even quote its on air, you couldnt drive it that low but they wouldnt have to as you just press a button and raise it 2" 8) , imo it looks pretty cool parked up at that height and sure the rs's arent a new look but do look great on the car - but i think the rears are too wide If that were over here i'm sure (like my car) every additional part of the vehicle is itemised and valued for the insurance company and they require photos to agree the value of the car - if they say its cool like that then i cant see the problem! - but its illegal to have the wheels protruding the arch so the old bill might ahve something to say :nono:
-
my mate had a z4 3.0 coupe before getting an exige and the one thing that is crap is the cost of servicing and servicable items - the 18" run flats are a fortune! Z car all the way, although you can see why they're a cheaper car inside, the trim/seats are nowhere near as good quality as the kraut mobile. Engines are great, try and get the gt pack, avoid the orange alezean (spelt it wrong probably) leather as it dosent last as well as the black leather and see if the gt pack doesnt include the additional sound system upgrade try and find one with that as its awesome 8)

dont worry tom, not very at all, just enough to burn the surface of the sealant then scrape it back, then wire brush in a drill the remnants, the gauntlets were to protect my hands from the torch more than the heat of the metal!
-
After spending a few phonecalls this week talking to various dippers/blasters the general word on the street is that blasting or dipping wont remove underseal or seam sealer - need a chemical peel, apparently not something women do but strips sealant off... But i was talking to the fella who rents a few units down from me and he said he can blast it for me :D ... and to remove the sealer why dont i burn it off... ?? he leant me his blow torch and i used an old gas cylinder left in our unit by the previous tennants passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC00973.JPG[/attachment:1s0mjzjx] then this happened, lol climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC00970.JPG[/attachment:1s0mjzjx] but as this pic shows, controlled small spots of fire soften the sealant and it becomes charcoal like leaving the metal underneath perfectly clean after scraping (used a small pallet knife/wallpaper scraper thing from focus) 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00971.JPG[/attachment:1s0mjzjx] so although i'd planned to have it dropped off at the dippers/blasters this week and pick it up this weekend at leat its now in a stage where every weld flange has been prepared at least 2" away from it to minimise the risk of crap running into the weld and all rust spots have been exposed ready to be blasted 8) DSC00972.JPG[/attachment:1s0mjzjx] aif yu try this make sure your carefull! - o and only heat/burn small sections and be sure to use proper thick fire retardent metalwork gauntlets to prtect yourself and also to damp down the flame if they get carried away :D
-
the main reason why i'm chopping up and re welding a standard one! + cost! lol
-
Any chance of looking into mates (Forum Members) rates :) ???? depending on a few commitments saturday morning i'm hoping to get down there so i will talk to andrew and hopefully post on here over the weekend with what he says 8)

if you really want low running costs and a car no one'll nick what about a 1.0 k12 micra? cheap to insure as well! a few hundred bags you a car with 50k on the clock! hardly a classic but check out autotrader
-
if i was gonna buy a plate then the i think the D3 VUB one is awesome and v reasonable direct from the dvla!
-
look slike alot of good work is going into this one :D got to ask though - i know wheels beyond the bodywork is illegal but are stretched tires legal with all the problems it causes by lowering the ratings proportionally so unless you go for a very high spec tire the tire will not be specced for the top speed of the vehicle? Not having ago at all, asking because i want to put a 205 40 17 on an 8.25" rim and there will be a fair amount of stretch and want to know if this is allowed in the letter of the law?
-
ok so you need it to have bullet proof reliability non german origin low desirabiliy to thieves plenty of room ability to get over east londons mountainous pot holes... theres only one car for the job surely? http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/LADA/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-240-4294885829/advert.action?R=200918333512379&distance=119&postcode=mk40+4gb&channel=CARS&make=LADA&model=&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=1997&vehicleRegLetter=P

mmmm... nice wheels!
-
cheers man, yeah they did say the passat's one was thicker and people go for this, considdering i think the front one is now the 28mm kw one i recon i'll try and track down a passat syncro one :) edit: thanks simon, i quickly looked and the front is 22mm not 28 - wow that'd be a bit big thinking of it, the rear is 25 but that should be going to josh (mariojoshi) attached to my rebushed rear axle if he decides he wants it! so a passat one would be balanced!
-
just a shameless plug for a friends buisness... they are v good... :D no seriously i've had 3 sets done by andrew at bjv now, BBS RXII's with dimond cut lips and new stainless bolts BBS RZ's factory spec refurb 3 piece splits with mirror polished outers new nuts and bolts and different paint colours v good workmanship, can match any colour, the polishing job he's done on my 3 piece outers need to be seen to be believed and can get hold of any bolts for you. Although be warned - the bolts all come from germany so will increase the lead time by a week or so. I think most of the Nomads boys have had at least one set done by him and some of the colours/finishes and ability to make a fcuked set of wheels look new need to be seen to be believed, o and he's about half the price of pristine in milton keynes and does a better job!
-
lol, have 3 of those sets, the mid size one always seems to come off the pressed in shaft, but they seemed to get clogged way too easily, i will have a go tomorrow night i was too busy in the pub this eve... toon toon toon!! o and i'll take some close ups of the floor so it shows whats necessary to keep and remove! - and with a bit of luc some before and after pics with the dipping. I think all i need dipped atm are floor syncro rear beam syncro arb (gwerks recommended sticking with this and refurbing as if upgraded it can make the car understeery :gag: ) front hubs (thank you josh and stu!) The slam panel and front x member has been cleaned up by hand and will be treated to a pro spray eventually to cure the stone chips this'll be when i get the gouges on the rear bumper repaired from dropping it :( but i've hammerited it for now as i will with the front subframe once i've cut it around for the aircon unit and moving the gearbox mount 20mm back
