  1. i've been told by friends who've done this before you need to inform them of the engine number and displacement and thats about it for the dvla as for insurance, as long as you have uprated the rest of the car to cope with the extra power then it shouldnt be a problem, i've done a test with hic and they reckon it'll go down by £100 when i reinsure it as i haveantoehr year ncb and a year older - they basically said they insure it as an r32... so maybe i should say audi 3.2, might be cheaper :-)
  2. Spot on, early have the "hook" type hanger, late have the "bar" type. Cheers for clarifying that mate :salute:[/quote:1j9pj3h7] the difference between mk2 spec narrow track and the late model mk3 spec front and rear subframes and fitting which are widetrack
  3. say ello to the new aluminium bodies merc gullwing boys and girls, autocar did a lil feature a few months back and the shrouded beastie was identical, look at the shape of the defined rear boot area and then gooogle the original gullwing, looks pretty close so hopefully they're using the good line sto influence the new one
  4. lol and amazingly vin diesel has got bigger and uglier!
  5. i have some spare new gsf brembo discs in the garage if your anywhere near me and wanna make me a sensible offer? - i'm in bedford
  6. yeah that one was utter dog turd but try the new one, you may like it! - i did and i'm not a fan of brightly painted lurid cars (including an orange m5 with carbon bonnet in this one! lol) no real story but it has LDV Vans back in it and its worth it just to look at some of the crazy driving!

    Arch shape?

if your looking for arches to weld on to make it wider i think josh (mariojoshi on here) has 2 rear panels he cut out of an old can he broke a little while ago, try pming him if you need them
  8. roadtrip with a bag of poo and some expanding foam
  9. Well he's stalling, told him what it's going to cost and he wants an assessor to look at it! :censored: I have 10 witnesses if he decides to back out of this... think this will go to an insurance co fight off! On the upside, thanks to Andy (Just_say_meth) there's another update due soon! :ignore: Jon, just tell him that its been assessed by a proffesional accident repairer and send him a copy of the offical quote. if he wants to get it checked by another he is welcome to arrange something that fits in with you. Ensure you print off the pictures of your and his car at the time and i#m sure everyone envolved wont mind writin g little statemtns and putting their contact details on. If he still argues say - "fine mate- you'll be hearing from my insurance compnay" then do it through that... out of interest where does he live
  10. if this is decided to be an illegal part then f1 will loose my and i'm sure half the countrys attention for the rest of the season - whats ruining f1 is results changing weeks later - it makes it neigh on impossible to work out wtf is going on and last season i lost interest this season i'll just not bother if this happens - i'm only one person but thats my view!
  11. yeah forgot about the load of metal i'll be adding under there :camp: there doesnt look to be alot that can be chopped out although given a holesawe and free reign i'm sure i could find some areas worth chopping!
  12. I honestly havent looked at it with a view to loose weight properly yet, other than the odd bracket hear and there (rear seat upper and lower, and centre arm rest) the carbon'd slipped my mind  will get on it - did will in a quotation thing on the performance trim site but it didnt go through and i couldnt be arsed to write it out again!... will get round to it eventually! TBH a carbon tailgate and bonnet with the seats and lack of interior comofrts should make a huge difference to the weight along with loosing the standard 15.5gallon tank to be replaced with something smaller in the boot! but i weigh about 100kgs so i have to loose alot more weight out of the car than you! i'm gonna charge on with the rear floor next and get the subframe made up when its all arrives/picked up so i can send my shafts off to be shortened ( and will post the exact lengths needed on here as i cant seem to find them from other build threads and its a v useful bit of info!) then whilst they're away i can get on with fitting the engine... tempted to trial fit it one night this week as the weathers so good but i'll see!
  13. Well minor update today after a fruitless long weekend on the car - other things got in the way so it stands as you see it here 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00940.JPG[/attachment:10zqmrlx] With the last of the harnesses removed i dropped the fuel tank and all pipes were removed in readiness to butcher the floor as i decided i'd wait until i pick up my new floor this weekend so i can be sure what i need to remove! The good news however is i managed to win these on kraut ebay this eve  ... c691_1.jpg[/attachment:10zqmrlx] They are lh and rh complete rear trailing arms from a mk3 golf vr6 syncro complete with discs and pads (dont think i'll be using them but good to help get me rolling! V V happy considdering the bare trailing arm without any bushes or hubs are currently £317+vat from VW each and they're on back order and i paid alot less than that for these delivered! :D These are what you need if you want to use shortened R32 rear driveshafts with the haldex rear diff as they have the correct 72mm bearing in unlike the smaller syncro/rallye one's... cheers sukh and all the random vwvortex peoples threads i've been trawling through o and stupid me i dropped my rear bumper onto a spare old engine block today so what was a minty non scratched bumper is now looking like someones gone at it with a screwdriver with gouges and scratches everywhere! - o well!
  14. i'd say go with the longer bolts and sandwich spacers evey time as its very easy to have the other type loosen off :help: , o and 15mm hubcentric spacers on the front wouldnt be too bad as that'd take the offest to et39 which is v close to standard! - but i'd do as above first and see what can be ground off the standard calliper :)
  15. I will hopefully be winning some heavy weight items from german ebay soon :norty: but they're big hunking chunky bits of metal including brakes discs and callipers hubs and suspension bits (not the stuts) has anyone bought this type o thing off german ebay before and could give me an idea what it might cost? (all in one box)

    Audi Allroad

sweet! - all the toys you could ever want :D you could debadge (they're just stuck on) and fit a smooth tdi bumper then no one'd ever know what was lurkign underneath 8)
  17. thanks jim, yeah is is a blue wire, i noticed theres also a remote terminal on the amp. What does the remote do then - sorry i am a complete ice newb as i only changed speakers and headunits before and got the people who installed my alarm into the C when i got it to put the sub in Do i need to fit to somewhere on the back of the headunit and plug it into the amp, will this control it being on all the time?
  18. i have fitted my old speaker set up out of the corrado into the passat and was wondering what the 3rd small wire without a connector on it is on the lead which transmits the sound from the headunit to the amp. Do i need to connect this as i havent powered up the amp yet as i've lost my amp -> sub wires and need to go the shop to get some new ones monday/tuesday
  19. i never learnded how to spell good neither... looking at that is why i need to slow my typing down! lol
  20. looks the nuts mate! i've just had a look through this and your very lucky to have the experiance with your old man as i would have killed for that when starting to play with cars at first 8) With that sort of knowledge mate, do an automotive engineering course if you can, i was lucky enough to do an apprenticeship but they arent offered anymore afaik so a degree might be the best way in and with the amount of determination and enthusiasm you have atm you'd fit right in in my office! - lots of car nuts with crap under theire finger nails masquerading as proper members of sociaety whilst planning their next engine/inteior/body mod, great fun :D
  21. depends what you mean? they probably did do it, but may not have released it, used to work for nissan r&d and saw a micra 2.0, 350z wit a supercharger, murano turbo, micra with 3.5v6 etc etc... but they never got released. Its a fairly common thing to make 1.8's into 2.0's in golfs - seen it done lots of times so i'm sure if you were thinking about doing it ther'd be plenty of people who can offer advice
  22. cheers man, i'l have a look for mk3 vr6 syncro coilovers then :D Very useful thread this!, i managed to answer quite a few questions in my head from just reading all the pages. Itching to get mine done now!
  23. Hi i'm getting all my bits together now and will be ordering my mk3 vr syncro rear arms tomorrow after reading through many threads on here and vortex, i noticed on bens 1.8t syncro thread (biggerbigben) he talked about using mk1 rear shocks. What suspension setup did you use? - Guesing my current normal vr spec weitec coilovers are destinned for the for sale thread!
  24. well my vote is for oem plus style buckets... the recaro spg was used in the lightweight bugatti eb110 special back in the early/mid 90's and these carbon and leather versions by border (recaro dont make carbon fibre ones but border are a tiwanese motorsports company supplying lots of asian gt racing teams) weigh in at 2-3kg or less and look the nuts in my eyes! heres them trial fitted in my C before i tore her apart! they also do a carbon version of the recaro pole position which they fitted in the mk1 lightweight TT Quattro Sport which are a bit wider and motorsport approved think!
