Where's all the Hebrews at?

Not 21st century at all but, what about the old Jaguar IRS back end? It would be tricky matching front and back diff ratios plus different hubs means different PCDs. But they've been put in so many different of cars that there's lots of experience and solutions kicking about. One will be going in my V8 Viva project. Powrlock LSD, oh yes.

That's quite a-corny joke. J-oak etc.. I've been drinking..

I'm ashamed to say I barely know any of Prong's stuff. I'll have to get on it. Grim, I found that ticket among some SNES games in the loft, shameful! If you'd like it then pm me your address. I reckon you would appreciate it more than I have. I wouldn't shout about the Carey connection though, the man's borderline retarded.

I think it's good for some bands change direction now and again, but it seems like it's rarely for the better Paradise Lost's first album on vinyl, good stuff! I saw Cannibal Corpse about 10 years ago up north somewhere, I'll have to dig the ticket out. They were hard as hell! Name drop: Carcass - Heartworks, rip ya face off! I knew I should have started this thread in chat.. Squirrels, death metal and pallet wrap. I don't know what you're upto tonight but don't get me involved.
-
Pallet wrap? You've lost me there. Cannibal Corpse are great. I like the early Paradise Lost aswell, before they went all Depeche Mode.

Thanks for the compliments. It's all in the lens though. There's no space for that sort of fun in a Corrado, thats why I'm buying a Volvo estate.. The Haunted sir are one of the finest death metal bands around. One last one.

If the missus hadn't been in the car I reckon he'd have been in there like swimwear. My interiors messy enough without the help of rodents..

corrado as a daily, thinking of buying
Ralphead replied to steveewonder32's topic in General Car Chat
I second what Jim says. My 16v had been abused and then left in a shed for a couple of years before I got it. Although I did alot of work before using it it's like a rolling re-build. Not much fun as its my only car. -
I've never spent £5k on a car. A tenth of that is my more usual budget. The Corrado's quite a modern car to me so I don't have concerns about modern car levels of comfort, luxuries, reliability etc. So.. First choice: A clean BMW E28 M535i. Always wanted an E28. I'll probably end up with a beige 518 one day. And if I fancied alot of walking it'd be a Maserati 430 Biturbo, oh yes.

You have to feel a little sorry for him really.. I guess insurance is a four letter word in any language.

Very handy. I have triple glazing. Letting that be known after a few minutes has led to some interesting reactions from cold callers..

A reform would be good but I think the industry is too big for anyone in position to do so to dare to stick their neck out. Too risky. The problem is that you, as a user of your own transport, are legally obliged to enter a contract with a company who full well know they can't be touched by individuals and are willing to take full advantage of it. Redfox: Where are your waters? I'm guessing America. My lady's American and says that from her experiences insurance is whole lot more open there. Taping is a good plan. I've tried it with some legal firms I'm working with but making them aware of the recording somehow seems to change their attitude. I did suspect that there may have been no supervisor involved but I played along with it, saves getting sidetracked and any confrontation that could be taken by her as personal. I go with what your saying though Craig, commission payments... I'll try to have the foresight to ask for a letter next time. My dinner was burning and my patience was getting short.

I called Heritage Quote yesterday who put me through to Call Connect, some shiny suited middle man shysters, who in turn pushed me on to Adrian Flux. I explained that next week I was planning to change my car (the Corrado) on my existing policy and wanted a classic quote for it. After a half hour of checking everything from my occupation to which side I dress they finally came up with a quote. Classic cover for £430, barely any less than my proper policy with Chris Knott. I pointed this out and she came back suspiciously quickly with £365 for a standard policy, n.c.b and everything. "Sounds good" I said. " I'll take a reference for that please and call you when I've changed the car on my current policy" "Oh well my supervisor says that that quote's only good while your on the phone, if you call back later it'll be the full £430" Could I believe this sh1t?! I'm getting pushed by the supervisor of a call centre? Well yes I could. Insurance is legalised, nay legally enforced, racketeering. A brilliant racket at that. I ran out of patience at this point. "He's pushing me? Who does he think he is eh?" I said calmly. "If he thinks he can bully me into giving you my business right now then you're not getting it at all" Less calm now.. "You can thank your supervisor for wasting your time and my time ya scum" Click. At least it's all recorded for training purposes..

These people seem to actually making a difference to how much we are getting ripped for fuel. Many people seem quite unaware that the biggest percentage of what we pay at the pumps is government tax. A flat rate tax which hit people, like me, who live out in the country very hard. People who struggle to run their businesses enough already without spending 25% of an annual income on fuel. Please don't let Quentin Wilson put you off, after all an alleged crook's probably what is needed to stand up to the 646. http://www.fairfueluk.com/nationalfairfuelday.html

J reg blue, G60? at the top end of Plymouth at about 1:30. I got to wave and everything!

The mk4s have that weird tapered hexagonal thing going on. Anything before a mk3 will have splines so more chance of it fitting but I don't know if it will. Mk2 Escort column splines are bigger than a mk1 and are compatible with Mini's (real ones), Triumph Heralds and, of all things, Mitsubishi Evo's! Dunno if that's of any help, probably not...

I got a used oe mount off a friend today so am sorted for the moment. However I found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-16v-8v-G60-Corrado-front-solid-engine-mount-/200710401496#ht_802wt_909 That and some new rear ones are going on my, ever growing, list. Thank you for the help guys.

Take the wheel off and have a look for signs of anything that's touching something it shouldn't be. Rub marks, scrapes etc.
-
The pucks are intriguing. I'll get it off in the morning and see what's broken. It's a good thing I love this car..

I used Deflex poly bushes in my wish bones and I like them. Paid about £25 for a set through eBay. They took ages to arrive though. To be fair the only time I've driven a Corrado with anything else fitted was when I bought mine, and they were all cracked up. Its not harsh and they've never squeaked.
-
Damn! That is one knackered front mount. I think the bonnet was holding the engine in! From above it looks a fairly simple thing. I'll take it off tomorrow and see if I can fabricate a solid one.
-
Thank you for the advice. I'll take a peek before work and check it out. What are my options for new mounts? I don't trust GSF rubber bits. Are there solid or uprated ones for sensible money? A clink sounds nicer than a clonk..
-
I'm getting a fairly violent "clonk" when dipping the clutch to change up a gear. Mostly into second but a bit into third gear. The top hose split and the plastic t-piece which bolts to the head broke together last week with no obvious explanation. I'm putting two and two together and thinking that an engine mount is weak or broken. I think backwards movement could explain the pipe and the clonk? Is this a known problem?
