As above I'm after a complete system or just a back box. I'd prefer something louder than standard but not too silly. Also ideally one with early type hangers but I'm not too fussy. The main thing is it needs to be quite cheap I can't afford much at the moment otherwise I'd buy something new, actually I'd be driving a nice G60 but there you go.. I'm on the Cornwall / Devon border so unless your fairly close I'd have to arrange a courier to collect and so a wrapping of bubble wrap would be needed. Thanks

Oh yes! Usually firmly in the ditchfinder category Nankang seem to have made a decent track tyre. The R is the important bit, the NS2 is a budget road tyre. The NS2R on the other hand is a decent budget semi-slick. Check it out: http://www.pistonheads.com/gAssing/topic.asp?h=0&t=1403755&mid=0&nmt=well+someone+had+to+try+them.Nankang+ns-2r+%2B+520hp+car+%3D%3F%3F%3F

Ooh. Well, still on the Longleat tip, to quote Terry Nutkins "And now for something completely different" What price could you do on a set of Nankang NS2R 180 compound please? The Uniroyals are still on there as I have to replace the back box and rear axle and a cv joint and and.. But in the next few weeks I want to splash out on some of these.

I'm about 6'2 and yes it's pretty tight up top but ok unless I hit a big bump.. The seats are nice and wide between the bolsters though. Check out that charger! Have a read of the G60 tuning info on here, it should give you a good idea of what to expect of a standard one.

Can someone please tell me the I.D of a standard 1.8 16v back box where it joins the system? I have a Janspeed mild steel system from downpipe back and want to know if I can fit a box designed for a standard system. If anybody has a suitable box please let me know..

I wish Uniroyal had pointed out that my size haven't. What I've bought is a different tyre with the same name and tread pattern as what I thought I was buying. I've done another 250 miles mostly on B roads to scrub them in but they're still no better. They're coming off next week. They're mushy rubbish and they've turned my tight little go kart of a car into a wallowy, unpredictable barge. And yes I'll be spending more this time round..

Yes the sidewalls are pretty big compared to a 40 or 45 profile tyre but even so they are hardly ballons. The index is 82, same as the Yokos. I was suprised how soft the walls felt when fitting them compared the Yokos which came off, especially given the identical load rating. Still as Sean says they are cheap and they are an all weather tyre. I paid £146 for four and the only other options at that price don't look too inspiring. I just wish I'd followed my heart not my head (wallet)

Well I've had a set of 195/50x15 Rainsport 3's on my 16v for 300 hundred miles now. I have to say I'm dissapointed. My last set were Yoko S-drives and before that Semperit Speedlife? or something with a similar name. Both those tyres felt direct and talkative with a sharp turn in and good grip. I haven't pushed the Rainsports really hard yet with so few miles on them but just with cruising around they feel like they're half flat. The car wobbles around on them and braking has it squirming around and needing the sort of steering corrections my old Land Rover requires! At first I ran the pressures at 38 front / 34 rear. Hot they rose to 40/36. I put them upto 40/38 which went to 45/40 hot and still they feel like mush. The car's setup the same as it was four years ago when it had the Semperits on it (6x15 ET35 BBS's, basic Weitec springs/dampers, poly front arm bushes, rest are rubber). The only changes have been new genuine top mounts and the relevant camber/tracking adjustments 4 months back. I'm seriously thinking of changing them asap but I should give them a few hundred more miles just to see what happens.. I'm a bit gutted really.

I can't get a spark at the plugs and found the coil isn't being switched on. I've tested every component and think that the control unit is at fault. I borrowed another one but that shows the same fault, I'm starting to think it's me.. If anyone in Cornwall or Devon has one I could try on my car and look to buy if it fixes it or a car I can try the ones I have on that would be great. Please let me know what you have. It's the same unit as a Mk2 16v but not the 8v and I'm pretty sure the 2 litre Corrado is different.

Holy exploding tailpipes Batman! 1.8 16v KR Ignition - No spark. FEI unit?

Right. I borrowed a used amplifier, control box and distributor. The borrowed control box shows the same fault as mine so if someone has a known good one please let me know. -

Thank you. That is similar but my TCI checks out. I'll try another though if I can. I've been looking for every earth point. I cleaned the battery to chassis to gearbox connections and the one on the a pillar by the ISV control box but no joy. Tomorrow I'll try taking the stereo out "always look at that last thing you fiddled with" I forgot that. -
On my way out this morning I got a mile or so up the dual carriageway and lost engine power. I put my foot down a little but nothing happened I then glanced down at the rev counter wich read nothing and sunddenly BOOM! It sounded like a shotgun, I glanced in the mirror to see bits of exhaust baffle flying down the road and the tailgating Audi dissapearing.. This all happened in the space of a few seconds, luckily I was right by a sliproad so coasted off onto a little road. The top of my lovely noisy Janspeed backbox has been peeled open like a sardine can! To confirm my suspicions I checked for a spark, nothing, lots of fuel though.. Having got a tow back I pulled my data books out and got stuck in. So I have no HT at the coil. I have been through the component test procedures for the coil, hall sensor, temp sensor, FEI and amplifier. All seems well apart from the power feed to the hall sensor from the FEI. For me that would single out the FEI except that when crank testing the hall sensor (with an LED on the amplifier plug) it passes even when it (the distributor) isn't plugged in! This has me stumped, is there another engine speed/position sensor? My data book is 1987 so only covers the KR in the Golf and Scirocco but I didn't imagine it would be too different in the Corrado. Even so I'm convinced enough to try another FEI. Does anyone near Cornwall/Devon border have one please? This week the Corrado's my only car and I'm kinda stuck. PS I have been trying to find an electrical problem which causes any electrical load of any kind to feed back through the rev counter making it jump around, with the stereo turned up it's like a crap VU meter! This has ended up with me blocking up the air pipe to the ISV as this interference was making it overcompensate and tick over at 2000rpm. I'd be surprised if this had nothing to do with it.

They can be noisy when loose too..

Why not check for play and adjust them up if needed?

The width won't change the tracking but the length on the n/s tie rod limits the lock to stop wider wheels/tyres rubbing on full lock. Looking at the Bentley manual it would appear that G60s with 60 profile! tyres had a shorter n/s tie rod from the factory but I can't be sure. Adjusting it will acheive the same thing though. I've been playing with the camber on mine and a little makes a big difference.
-
It certainly sounds like it. But I set the tracking (to toe out slightly) on mine with a basic old sliding gauge and it looked to be toeing out alot afterwards. The body does taper a fair bit at the front, could be an optical illusion? When you come to checking it remember the Corrado does have a funky way of being tracked. You set the n/s tie rod to a factory dictated length and adjust the o/s one for tracking. The n/s one is only adjusted to compensate for wider tyres. I did not know this the first time..

My car: 1990 16v, lowered, sports exhaust Me: 32 years old No points, ever! 1 Non fault claim nearly 5 years ago Policy: Classic policy 5000 mile limit Commuting I have to have unrestricted use of another car £150 excess £104 per year! I'm happy with that. Brokers are RH. The underwriter is Equity Red Star, a bit communist east sounding.. Ten minutes later Classic Line gave me a quote for cover with with Equity Red Star for £231.50, their man got a bit sh1tty when I said I'd been offered it for less than half that with the same underwriter.

I put the mats from a Volvo 940 in the front of mine. They're hard plastic with little spikes on the bottom so they dont move around. The passenger side fits fine but I trimmed the drivers one a little. They're grey and say Volvo on them but that doesn't bother me. They're great for winter as the sides are high so keeps all the water and muck off the carpet.

This evening I dropped my Corrado off at the garage for an MOT tomorrow. After a year of it being off the road I got all rialed up and spent some valuable time and money on the poor thing. Over the last three weekends I've fitted new plugs, leads, cap, front top mounts, cambelt, pads and discs. Replaced a bent wheel and stub axle, cleaned all those places that get full of rotten leafs and slime and bodged a door handle. I set the camber using a Gunson gauge I got of ebay. Really it's jut a tiny spirit level and a magnet but seems consistent. I turned to look at the car as I left the garage earlier and thought "Damn! That looks good" After looking at it for over seven years I'm still caught off guard by what an awesome looking car an early Corrado is. Ah, love.. I can't wait to climb back in and grip that leather rim.. Ahem. Oh Where was I? I'll get my coat.

Mine is amusing as it's far faster than anyone expects and it sounds fantastic. I couldn't cope with a diesel one but I can't live with 18mpg for much longer. My wifes Defender has it all with its GMC 6.2 diesel V8 but it eats gearboxes.. and it's still a Land Rover. Anyway, On my Corrado I run Weitecs' basic spring and damper kit (Ultra GT?) with poly bushes up front and standard rear beam bushes. It's a bit firm but doesn't skip around even on the rubbish Cornish roads.
-
I you really need to go off road and/or tow big trailers then they are a good tool, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Forget about having fun behind the wheel as well.
-
There's been many discussions about the bushes. General consensus seems to be that original is best. They're are what I will be using when I get around to it. The bentley manual shows the beam in exploded diagram. I know of a link which I'm not sure I should post in public if you want a pdf of it..

Maserati Ghibli or 222. Fast comfortable and well.. it's a Maserati. You'd need a couple of grand handy at all times for upkeep and no interest in fuel economy..

Especially with AVS..
