  1. No denying the ability of these things but Ive never been a fan of the jap high revving cars. Dont know what it is, it will be better on track though so fair play.
  2. I was £500ish for my 24v one and about £700 for the turbo. That was full claims, no points, 6kmiles a year and garaged in the middle of Aberdeen. Thats with Brentacre. As a comparison the standardish VR is about £400 ish a year for the same policy.

Yeah the more I think about it the more Im convinced it would rub with standard arches and tramline like a bitch.
  4. As the name suggests its catches the oil fumes rather than venting them to atmosphere which can smell bad, is not the safest and I think is illegal if the vents in the engine bay.

Really, ET0. You must run small tyres then as well as I had Et30 8x17in on one of my older cars and had rubbing at the front which is why I was worried about these.
  6. Blowing a hoolie here as well. Having to tie the planes down?
  7. The might VR sucking in all that air from my manifold leak Id say!!
  8. There is a similar thread where someone asked for a survey to see what mileage folks had done and what state there tensioners were like. I think there are quite a lot of variable that determine when they need done so its not a hard and fast rule. Its been said before but it does seem very rare for them to break however you would only hear about that through a forum and most folk on forums naturally care about the car so they will replace them if need be therefore you dont hear about it. If that makes sense. Covers off and take a gander is the only way to be sure. There was some with wear through to the rivets at ~90k againts my own car with virtually no wear at 136kmiles.

Anyone ever run this size on a VR before? I like the ride of the 205/50's but would like some more purposeful wheels so I spied a set with the above specs. From memory with standard arches I though Et30 with 8in was as much as you would want to go. The car is lowered probably about 50mm at the moment.
  10. I made a cheeky bid, funnily enough and as expected it wasnt accepted, LOL.
  11. We really should get an Aberdeen meet sometime as I know off my two old ones, a Storm, another two red VR's, a grey G60, an auto Blue Vr and an oak green VR. Some of those have not seen the road for a while mind you.
  12. Ah it was you. I knew Id read about a Tdi on here before. Couldnt believe it when I pulled into to get fuel and theres another one sitting there. Where were you though as I only saw your passenger having an ogle then you left? That was it dirty, its now cleaned and tucked away till this salt fecks off.
  13. Well thats exactly what the problem was after all. Im happy now but ****ed off that I missed something so simple. Was a good car day for me as the Scirocco was in getting mapped and some H&R springs fitted. Its now the car it was supposed to be, sits so much better and pulls so much better. ITG intake sounds quite good as well, nice and subtle.
  14. Its very much like when you put grass between your thumbs and blow through it. Its definitely the reason for the noise. I'll tighten all the bolts up tonight and give it a whirl. Im still cant believe I missed this, what a plonker.
  15. Okay had a friend come round with VAGCOM and after the errors were cleared nothing showed up, tried starting the car and same result. It then showed up as engine speed sensor - no connection which Im assuming is the cam position sensor. I replaced the cam sensor wheel on the rear cam so maybe Ive damaged the sensor when its been sitting on the cover plate in the garage. However the guy listened for the shreiking and it was heard to be coming from the front of the engine so Ive been thinking about tha and I forgot Ive only got the two outer bolts finger tight on the inlet manifold. This must be the issue i.e. air is being drawn in between the upper and lower part of the inlet causing the car to idle badly and not respond to the throttle inputs? It would explain the shrieking noise i.e. air is being drawn in when the revs rise? It would make sense to me as everything else appears fine. ---------- Post added at 09:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 PM ---------- Im actually laughing at myself, it must be this. I knew it was something simple, well heres hoping anyway.
  16. Spot on, didnt have to worry about rubbing or sump etc. Go as fast as you want. Wheels were the normal 7.5 ET35 spec as well.
  17. O-ring was still there, I doubled checked that as well. It sounds fine and smooth when I turn it over using the starter.
  18. No spacers at all. Some more to wet your appetite.
  19. Its a good combo IMO. I had this on my green one and it worked well, I didnt find it to harsh. The front does sit just a touch too high but some of those lowering caps would work perfectly. Heres the last photo of how it sat luckily with RC's as well.
  20. Yeah the noise concerns me as well but there was no sign on damage when I took it apart again. Everything seems to line up after turning over 4 times. It does not seem to respond well to any throttle inputs so again that does lead to possibly something electrical. I should be getting it VAG Com'd tonight.
  21. I was thinking that and trying to borrow some items to swap them out, the coilpack is at home drying out. I took it of an left it sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks so thats a possibility although I disconnected each lead with it running as well as the ISV / MAF etc and it made no difference
