hang fire on this one jon, i may be able to get one locally. ill let you know asap buddy so dont worry about wrapping it up yet.
-
that would be awesome dude! thanks! i need it asap unfortunately as the engine is out. within the next week would be ideal. would postage be an option? ill pay you up in full up front no worries there if it is an option. just for my piece of mind, what length is it without the cv's?
-
yeh we did, i found out that the thin one acts as a kind of torsion shaft to reduce wheel hop under hard acceleration. is your spare fat driveshaft up for sale by any chance matey? :norty:
-
is the g60 drive shaft the same as a 2l 16v?
-
are there options for the drivers side drive shaft? ive been told that a mk2 golf gti drivers side drive shaft will fit but im unsure. reason being is that i want to upgrade my skinny 2l 16v drivers side drive shaft for a fatter one. did any of the 2l 16v's come with a fatter drive shaft like the vr6's did? im pretty sure ive asked this before but i cant find any info on it. ive also posted a wanted ad for this. if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!! :D chris

Chris replied to Chris's topic in Engine Bay
that looks like the baby. cheers james :) -
does anyone know the part number for the little plastic oil seal in the photo below, the one that feeds the top tensioner bolt. Ive lost mine :(
-
in a nutshell. need to find the fine line between comfortable performance and...how do i put it....crap feeling performance 9lb seems to be the lowest i should go at the moment anyone else care to add
-
really! i thought it would make a noticeable difference on a standard vr6, seems to make a big difference in alot of other standard cars. ill give my local machine shop a shout and see what price they give me.
-
:norty: steady on big boy...who said it was small  Just go to your local motor factor mate, the hose i used was an off cut from my oil cooler hoses.[/quote:2gvvjnls]
-
where would be the best place to get a small length of hose like yours james?
-
liking the jetta! weve got the same car combination here, apart from my housemate owns the red jetta. which one are you bringing to this meet in april if you can make it? or is that a silly question :)
-
nice rado :) and good choice, bbs rm's :salute: you should bring this to the south-coast rado meet in april are those 195's on your rm's? chris
-
yeh, g60's and 16v's up to 92 had them
-
how much were the hi spec ones? and do they sit behind 15's nicely then?
-
16v fronts are 256mm vr6/g60 fronts are 280mm the 280's are much better than the standard 16v front brakes, for obvious reasons. you can pick them up reasonably cheap too. if you want more braking power with 15inch wheels, check out the wilwood selection, they do some good 4 pot calipers that will fit 280 discs and 15inch wheels. you will probably need small spacers to clear the slightly larger width of the caliper if you go this route though.

as good as the schimmel flywheel is, is there any you'd maybe suggest on this side of the pond, the shipping vat on that item would be fairly high making it rather expensive in total. wouldnt be a problem if the ex. rates were like they were last summer but unfortunately we not that lucky anymore :( is it worth/would it cost alot to have my current flywheel lightened and balanced?
-
ill keep that in mind :) i forgot to mention ill be going turbo near the years end...so a lightened flywheel that i can have fun with now, which will also compliment the FI when i get around to it. ill be taking your advice on this one shaun, where did you go for your flywheel?
-
im considering getting my vr flywheel lightened or buying one which has been lightened already. what is a sensible weight for a lightened vr6 flywheel? im after a nice bit of performance but i dont want the car to feel undriveable as it will be a daily soon. can anyone advise me...
-
to my knowledge yes the vr rear axle is wider than the 16v/g60's rear axle (im not 100% on this). cant help with anymore unfortunately bud
-
that sounds like gsf's general customer service :) glad you managed to get a refund! they must have given you a defective/crap tank, i usually try to stay clear of gsf parts but the only thing i got from them which i thought was worth the money was that tank. if you do go for the gsf one lisa keep your receipt and make sure everything is good with it before you start filling it up.
-
A whole bottle of coolant flush was used after the HG was fixed  I've had to change a couple of the coolant hoses since and the water seems pretty clean, it's just the stained header tank that makes the water look mostly cruddy. theres nothing wrong with the gsf one, i used to have one for my 2.0l lump, you wont notice any difference. n yeh vw will ask for about £30+ including vat. the genuine 16v vw expansions are more expensive than the vr ones which i found to be abit strange
-
lol, you just no that youll end up knocking it at some point. i havent yet but i think i will after ive finished the engine. i think ill be tucking a switch away inside the dash tray
