I think also, because mine's totally debadged, some people just don't have a clue what it is! "Nice car, is it a Mazda?" was one comment I got from a mate of mine. The knob.

Was parked in town waiting to pick my gf up from work - the C is freshly autoglymmed, looking the tits. A group of chav kids come past on bikes and one of them shouts to the others "LOOK AT THAT!". I always get props from chavs. Is this a bad thing?
-
Spent literally all day cleaning the C yesterday - * Washed with AutoGlym bodywork shampoo * Claybarred * Super Resin Polished * Sealed with AG Extra Gloss Protection (all the above included all door shuts and sills) * Paint touched up (stonechips etc) * All plastics and rubbers treated with Meg trim detailer * Wheels cleaned with Meg HotRims * Tyres dressed It's a shame I'm so crap with a camera, and don't have time to take it somewhere picturesque for some nice arty shots at the moment! So here it is sat on my drive. Next job is to get some new indicators and fogs for the front because they're showing the car's age somewhat I think.

G60, because every mechanic I know warned me off the VR6 due to the potential of large garage bills! Plus this G60 came up at the right price, with all the right mods which makes it at least as quick as a standard VR. Would still like to have a VR at some point though!

The interesting thing about reading the reviews of the various Corrado models is how they were recieved on launch - the G60 was a general "WTF?" but the it wasn't until the VR6 that the Corrado was seen to get the engine the chassis deserved.

I've got that book, it's a decent read!

Well had a good day yesterday, as soon as I got the door cards off it was obvious what the main culprit was - the plastic inner door handle on both doors was loose on the metal door innards, it's only held on with the lateral pull of the opening rod thingy. Took them off, put some sticky-backed foam behind them and put them back on - voila, no play in them. The next bad guy was the little flappy handles themselves - obviously the rod that connects them to the lock mechanism must have stretched over the years, meaning they had too much play and were rattling around. Disconnected the rod, bent it a bit (so it was effectively shorter) and reconnected it. Also put foam behind these rods as they travel across the door and that helped. Put the lot back together and my doors now go THUNK instead of THUNKRATTLE. :D Now there's just a couple of rattles in the rear, sound like the seatbelt upper mountings... hmm... the quest continues!

I put my lights on full beam, and it got darker...
Alexander replied to staffs_til_i_die's topic in Exterior
Yeah when I put my full beams on, it doesn't get much brighter, although the beam goes out for a greater distance. I thought it was just because it's got xenon-effect uprated bulbs in the normal beam and not in the full beam? -
They Really Are Just Taking The P!$$ Now!
Alexander replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
Quoted for truth - amen brother! Man-made global warming is nonsense, and the only reason there's a CURRENT scientific consensus is because it's politically driven, you get more grants if you can link your research however spuriously to climate change and it's an excellent excuse to keep the developing nations under the thumb so the West can continue to exploit their natural resources. Anyway - back to 4x4s! -
What's behind the rear doorcards that could be rattling? The thing with rattles is - once you notice them, you can't hear anything else!
-
Ha ha yeah, the stereo helps, but then I can't hear the gentle, calming whirr of my G-Lader - the best soundtrack there is! I'm a bit anal about rattles and squeaks I must say - I think they make the car seem "old" (even though I suppose it kind of IS old), although I did chuckle at the creaking made by my mate's 05 plate Golf GTI the other day... :D
-
Mine is terrible! Mainly coming from passenger door, and I think behind the passenger rear card. I feel like the local council is trying to kill my poor Rado, so harsh are some of the speedbumps near me. :( Weekend mission is to whip the doorcard off and see what's rattling, dash seems to be pretty quiet. How are yours? Any tips as to what usually works loose and the best way to resecure it?

cool vid of me and some of the boys rolling into germany

That was great, but I can't believe you spelled Jimi Hendrix's name wrong! -
Yeah I must say I got a lump in my throat when Clarkson was crying at the end of the race! It's easy to think they have an easy job but seriously that must have been well gruelling! Props to Steve and the engineering team though - absolute legends!
-
Yeah I check my oil level every weekend religiously (on a Sunday :D) - the car's got loads in it, so unless the oil pump totally fails I guess I should be OK not booting it for a few weeks until I can get it looked at...
-
Yeah it'll definitely be VAG parts all the way. Odd that the light in the dash doesn't come on even though the beeper does. Is it possible the light doesn't work, or can they signal independently?

Noisekiller under bonnet foam/sound suppressant.
Alexander replied to shawshankkid's topic in Suppliers Forum
I fitted my noisekiller under-bonnet foam yesterday as well - firstly Noisekiller are nice people to do business with, very pleasant and Steve kindly honoured the Corrado-net discounted price of £40. Dead quick delivery too. My experience was pretty much the same as Matt's when it comes to fitting - out of the box all the parts are much too big, but you can trim them down with a bit of trial and error with some sharp scissors - I looked at it that you get more than you'll need, so you can get it fitting in as tight as you like. Took me about an hour, in the freezing cold! But as Matt says, once it's on, it ain't coming off! As far as noise level reduction, honestly, I don't think it makes that much difference to my G60. That said, it's a noisy beast with a smaller pulley, RSR outlet and a decatted full steel exhaust so I daresay a good amount of noise comes from underneath. It certainly muffles some of the higher-pitched noise and rattles but it's by no means a marked difference. Still pleased though, it looks great, should keep the engine well insulated and every little helps! Will post pics up if I get near the car in daylight, which is increasingly difficult at this time of year. -
Oh cool, well that's good to know. Must invest in some decent tools as well, most of my current toolbox I got out of xmas crackers :D
-
Yeah let's face it after that much fannying about to employ someone, they're going to be pretty committed to training you and keeping you happy!
-
Good luck mate! Sounds like you were in your element!
-
Yeah honestly I am ramping up to the bigger stuff, did quite a lot to my Golf myself, but stuff that could potentially kill the engine if I don't do it right, I dunno - I'd rather pay a professional than risk it! Plus, where do you guys dispose of engine oil?
-
Hmm yes, as Dirty Harry said "A man's gotta know his limitations" :D
-
Hmm yeah thanks dude, I think you might have something there. Last time it was in the garage I mentioned it to the mechanic but he said it wasn't doing it, probably because he wasn't booting it hard enough. I'll drive it steady over xmas then get it back in for a new oil pump and have the baffle checked. Thanks a lot!
-
Thanks dude, No it's definitely not a whoosh - my boost return is deleted so it vents unused boost to air. Most definitely a really high pitched "beep" that seems to come from the left of the dash/engine. Oil is up to the line on the dipstick, recently had an oilchange and filter, new rocker cover gasket and oil feed lines to the charger. Doesn't really use any oil at the moment. Could it be a faulty oil pressure sender perhaps??
-
Nope, no lights come on at all!
