  1. Rear bumpers are even more expensive: around £580 + VAT, and that's just primed, so you have to paint it...
  2. Ah - don't call the stealer. GSF do the genuine rear-and-centre section for around half the dealer price. The small front section is only about £70 from the dealers, so you might be able to get that from them. Well, the VW exhaust isn't just mild steel, it's a hybrid alloy, apparently. This is not yer £100 from kwik-fit build quality (rot in 2 years). The original one lasted this long, didn't it?
  3. Given that VR6s have completely different steering racks from the earlier models, I very much doubt it.
  4. Whaddya mean "back on topic"? They guy asked what exhaust he should get, and I answered! ;) As for looks better, sound nicer - that's all personal taste (as you well know!! :-P ), and the last longer is debatable. How many 12 year old Stainless Exhausts are on cars at the moment? There's plenty of 12 year old VW exhausts out there. Sure it comes with a lifetime warranty, which is cool, but hey, swings and roundabouts. At least the OE pipe fits properly, every time! Ask kev why he went back to standard! :) Anyway, I'll shut up now I've said my peace.. :)
  5. No, 205 Nm, around 145 lbft. You simply don't get 200 ish ftlbs from 1.6s without a blower. (Ahem, unless you run it on *certain* rolling roads, that is... ;) )
  6. Hmm. You didn't tune it? Well that's kinda asking for trouble...
  7. Then why not buy a standard exhaust then? Yours for only £225 + VAT cat-back. I will never understand the obsession with stainless exhausts, sorry...
  8. The poor guy. He had probably just had his dump valve fitted too, to make sure his 1.2 never went off boost... And as for those Type-R badges he got off ebay last night, clearly they weren't working right, otherwise he'd have whupped his ass... Gotta love the quote "come on, f*ggot!". I think if you look closely enough you can see the sunburn round his neck..
  9. To satisfy people like you that don't like over-informative feedback  I like informative feedback. I *don't* like tooth-rattling bone shaking cabin vibration, however. The two are NOT inextricably linked.. :-P
  10. AMD charge around £65/hr + VAT and charge by-the-book, as do the dealerships. But most dealers in the south of england (I note you're in Surrey) will charge around £85+VAT or upwards per hour... Stealth are a long way from you..
  11. How (and why?!) did they diagnose the head gasket? Most likely it's just the head gasket (not the whole engine), which is a good few hours labour, but not the end of the world.
  12. It's an ugly little spud, isn't it? It sounds like it's a solid, modern, fast, consistent car. One review, however, says "all the cars (megane, type r and golf) have electro power-assisted steering, and the golf's is the best of the lot. Of course, there's no feedback ...." WHY is it so hard to actually connect the flaming front wheels to the steering wheel? Surely that's the point of a car?? And the final element of my rant: where's the turbod R32 version?? We want a V6, nothing less will do! ;)
  13. It's not uncommon for the coolant level to drop in the first few days after major engine work, it's often just air locks working their way back up to the top of the circuit.
  14. Bargain. £80 for four? You can do mine then! I'll send you six of the blighters..
  15. You could buy one.. but they're not cheap from VW. Dunno if there's any cheaper suppliers for you over there, but it's worth tracking one down, cos in the UK these switches are over £50 from the dealers (yes that's about a $1million at the current exchange rate)..
  16. My supervisor at university used to have a banged up old Datsun where he could remove the ignition key and leave the engine running... then reinsert the key and carry on. Very handy when your car park exit pass is on your keyring... :)
  17. As the marketing department might say, it's a feature, not a bug!
  18. Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind split rims being .. well just that - why do they exist?

    VR6 - Oil Usage

They're ok, but pricey. (Though pleasantly cheap compared to VW!)

    VR6 - Oil Usage

Usually the first coolant failure on VR6s is the hose that connects to the heater matrix, just by the kink where it leaves the cylinder head. And it's usually caused by a weak gearbox engine mount. This would quite possibly have resulted in water running down the exhaust manifolds, and also looking like it had made a mess near the heater matrix. It wouldn't explain the fouling on the plug though.

Why did it need the head skimming? Any puffs of blue smoke out the back?
  22. Bottom string on a bass guitar is around 53Hz (IIRC), so the fundamental tone won't be locateable to the human ear (which works by phase-shift differentiation aswell as pure amplitude differentiation). All the harmonics *will* be locateable, however, but they should be being delivered by your front speakers, not your subwoofer. Long and short is that if your sub sounds like it's in the boot, the frequency cut-off is set too high! Be interested to see how you do an analogue variable phase shift circuit too! Frequency dependant time delays?
