  1. Surely the water temp shouldn't drop below 80.. or did you put a low temp thermostat in, Henny?
  2. Hi all, The annual insurance renewal dance has begun, and a lot of places are claiming they won't touch me without at least a CAT2. I have a VW Logic 6000 immobiliser fitted by the previous car owners, but obviously this isn't certified by thatcham any more.. I also have an unknown ex-CAT1 alarm/immob with remote, so I'm not worried about replacing that at the moment (two immobilisers are probably enough..), so a new CAT2 will do the job for the insurance purposes (hopefully it'll also be easier to use!). Any recommendations on fitters in the Reading area or recommendations on the type to get welcomed, I'm hoping this can be as painless as possible... Cheers, Matt.

    Strange Noise

I bet (in fact I know) my garage never swapped the float and gauge sender over when they fitted it. Yet you and I seem to have the same problem.. Ho hum.. :) Tell you what, it's insurance time and I'm getting sick of trying to explain WHY the hell I paid *that* much money for the VSR/VGI when it doesn't increase the engine's bhp output, oh and not forgetting the old "is it an air filter?" questions...

Yeah, same here. I think it's thresholding - above 80% is reading full 12V, so if you let the petrol settle and become still in the tank, it'll drop to a sensible reading, but slosh it around and it spikes back to full.. Your pump came from gsf?

It's funny, mine does that too... The reason I'm saying "don't forget to.." is cos clearly my garage didn't...

There's a small plastic adjuster on the sender unit. I'm sure there's a factory calibration method but I don't know it.. It should be good enough to copy the old one - it's cos they will use the same unit for different cars, which will have different tank dimensions etc..

Fuel pump is £95.95 + VAT at the dealer, but it's included in the parts club, so you may be able to negotiate it down to £70.76 + VAT. Make sure you set the fuel gauge sender up to be calibrated the same as the old one before you install the new one... It's a pain trying to calibrate it later without a reference to do it from... Also bear in mind the pump will contain a couple of pints of fuel, so don't just lift it out - allow it to drain for a few minutes on the edge of the tank!

I think the odds of there being only ONE thing wrong at a time with a Corrado are pretty slim... ;)
  9. They still use cable change boxes, so I'll bet they're still using the same tool. The only difference is 6-speed boxes are more common now.

    bhp of all corrados

Are you lot talking about IQs again? ;)
  11. (As an aside, I just noticed I'm now a CF-oholic! :) )
  12. Fuel supply problems - rough running, pinking, lack of performance (particularly at high revs), that sort of thing. They tend to become noisy for ages before they quit, but having them quit isn't a great thing, of course...
  13. You don't NEED your fillings do you? ;)
  14. Damn, I agreed with Kev again. What's going wrong with me? Am I ill?! ;)
  15. .. Ahem.. Ignoring the obvious double entendre for now, I just thought I'd comment on your wheels, biggrim. They're probably seriously unfashionable, I know, but I always had a soft spot for those retro looking steel wheels on the old VWs. Looks kinda cool, in an anti-cool way.. :)
  16. Lets not be hasty here.. A company that specialises in Corrados is inevitably going to provide a cross section of Corrados for sale - and we all know how ropey a lot of them are out there. A company that deliberately misrepresents a car for sale is another matter, however!!
  17. "no extra vibration" - for once I'm with kev here, it may be a small amount, and it may not be a problem, but I'd be extremely surprised if you couldn't tell at *all*... Considering the rubber VT front mount transmits more vibration than the VW oil filled mount anyway. (Though not enough for it to be a problem.)

    Suspension issue

Depends on which car you have, and whether you want to replace bushes and ball joints at the same time..
  19. Soooo.. what you're saying, paul, is that VW have been over-pricing the top of the range Golf for years... Sounds about right!! So how come they're still in business then? Do they discount heavily? Or do people just fork out the dosh anyway? Coming to that bit - WHY do people fork out the dosh?
  20. VAG Rear axle bushes are what gives the C it's passive rear wheel steering. Use others (or poly) only if you know what you're doing.. ;)

Gotta be the fuel pump, unless it was something vibrating against the exhaust.
  22. I'm like you, mariovr6, I'd like everything to be diagnosable from the descriptions I put on the forum.. Unfortunately I don't think we're getting anywhere, and you're just going to have to get someone to look at the car. Evidence from the whole thread points at an injector problem, so I'd start from there if I were you. Booking in for an engine rebuild seems a little excessive at the moment - best to work on everything else first... :)
  23. 306 -> Passat?! Jeez, that's an interesting change! Completely different cars! Yeah, I'm sure the brakes just needed overhauling and fresh fluid etc. The missus has a nice LHD 206 with pin-sharp brakes, and I've driven 205s in the past so I knew there was something wrong with this one.. Not that I was *very* serious about buying one, was just testing the waters really.. The VR6 was giving me grief at the time, big style. (Like when isn't it?!)
  24. Good price, I'd say. I test drove one a short while back, almost mint with 34,000 miles on the clock, but it showed a few signs of neglect. Brakes had warped through lack of use, handling didn't feel so sharp (think it just needed some air in the tyres!), brakes felt pretty spongey. He wanted nearly £4k for a '95 car due to that low mileage.. I didn't think it was worth anywhere near...
  25. You probably only spent £4.65 on fuel in that time too...
