  1. Nope, bought it from Stoke! I've travelled for most of my cars :?
  2. surprised you havent got access yet, try emailing them. they meet every other thursday i think and some sundays. i dont often get a chance to go to the meets, but they are going to northgate vw in bury in a couple of weeks on a thursday night, so i should be going with them then. Attowes are brilliant. Dan mapped my car and its spot on. just going for a fueling check on sat. Clive is straight talking and wont give you any bull. which can come across as blunt sometimes. what did you have done there? I had a VR before this one and I had a power check from them, then inquired about getting it mapped. I know mapping a standard VR ECU is difficult, but I just got the impression they didn't want to know :confused4:
  3. I've just become aware of them a few days ago, tried to sign up to their forum but no access yet. They got a meet soon? Last time i took mine to Attowes I really wasn't impressed with them, do you like them?
  4. Cool, when it's all done, likely will be by this weekend, pint somewhere outside? Your motor on the road is it?
  5. Hi Rob, I slackened it off, but I will probably remove it altogether on the other side, as I had to jack the wishbone up to stop the ball joint shaft from turning. Once i jacked the wishbone up I had to use the forked extractor again to get the balljoint out  ah i see now. it has a different hub to mine. mine has a pinch bolt that runs from front to back, yours is held in from the nut on top. where abouts in norwich are you then?[/quote:1orypwcl] East mate, village called Brundall, you?

  7. Thankyou sir :salute: But you'll all be pleased to know i smacked the living schitt out of the blighter this morning, with a slight dash of heat. It popped in fear, I'm just hoping the other side will have seen this and will put up less of a fight. That's the engine jacked up one though, so even more fun! Can anyone who's done this tell me, will the driveshafts and CVs be ok on a lowered car if i undo the front and rear engine mounts and jack the engine up to gain access to the front wishbone bolt? I believe this is the best way to get to it. Cheers
  8. Did you do anything with the wheel bearings? Or just put it all back together? I may have to consider that but the nut on the end of the driveshaft spline is putting me off, I haven't a clue what sort of socket will undo it!
  9. I can't imagine how hard fitting the replacements is going to be if removing them is this hard :(
  10. ok cool, I never knew it was this tough though! I'm just scared of damaging my steering rack or something by all this smacking  So I've just got to keep at it then, I'll probably get the fork type out again tomorrow and give that a run. This is a bit of a funny question, but what way to you orient your fork type extractors? On mine one side slopes and the other side is perfectly straight, I've been using the straight edge against the main housing with the tapered side in contact with the ball joint, this seem fine?
  11. What did you hit exactly?
  12. Ok so leave the extractor tool wound up and just smack the housing the ball joint is desperately clinging onto? Worth a try thanks mate
  13. Hoping someone can offer some help here, I've been struggling with this most of the day. Following the Bentley manual, I have a ball joint extrator tool as specified there. Only trouble was the top of it wont fit beneath the CV joint, so i hacksawed a bit off the top of the threaded shaft from the ball joint. I've managed to bend the extractor tool but the ball joint just won't budge, I hope I'm not doing this wrong but any feedback is welcomed! I have also hammered a forked type ball joint remover tool but that's had no effect. I've tried hammering the wishbone as close to the balljoint as possible, but that's not worked either. I've left it under tension overnight in the hopes that a miracle might happen, but this is really frustrating me :bad-words: Just to shed further light on this, here are some pictures: Hopefully someone might have some suggestions to free this up, I can only guess the other side will be just as bad. Looks like these ball joints have been in since the factory! I am replacing them so hacking them up is no problem. Thanks, Jim
  14. They must have got them in somehow, a UJ attachment is probably your best port of call. I can't see how Irwins would help if a socket type allen key won't fit. Does a long extender bar just foul the curved pipe then? Would a non ratcheted type handle do the trick? In my socket set there is a small bar running through a head for a socket, that would take up minimal space and possibly work?
  15. Perfect thanks! Drop me your address by PM and I'll have yours sent off tomorrow also. If it's alright could you do next day delivery (if poss) and I will settle the difference for your postage, unless you want next day too. As you can see in the pic I have done a lot of work cleaning them up, your black paint should go on fine. Cheers
  16. That's just weird, he was telling me it definitely says 312mm conversion on one of his receipts? He has the standard storm solitudes, is there any way at all they could fit? lilfuzzer - would these 288mm carriers be available soon? I need to carry on with this work asap, cheers.
  17. I know a friend of mine has 312mms under his storm standard wheels, they're 16" aren't they? Sounds like a plan, they're even painted red for you
  18. Argh, yeah looks like they are 312mm carriers :brickwall: Sorry it's just one thing after another. So my two options are: 312mm Discs or 288mm Carriers Which option is cheaper?..lol
  19. Hi all, Just been chucking all the 288mm parts onto my C, but I've hit a bit of a brick wall here. Can anyone tell me if I have the wrong carriers and where I should go to get the right ones? Are these 312mm Carriers? The discs are 288mm Cheers, Jim
  20. Saw a Blackberry with aftermarket lights travelling between Blofield and Brundall around lunchtime today, anyone here?
  21. Well what a can of worms I have opened! I started off by buying a set of 288mm brakes from a chap on here, with new discs and pads. Then I decided I best replace all the relevant parts on the rear for a little refresher. Got a kit from a vw website which included wheel bearings, discs and pads. Brilliant I thought, just swap these over and the brakes should be a lot better! I made a start on the rear only to find numerous bolts that were so tough I rounded them off, but thankfully the Irwins saved me  After I managed to get the whole lot apart, there was so much surface rust I decided to clean it all up before reassembling it. The disc shield crumbled as I worked, so I had to make an order to VW for bolts, washers, and now a pair of shields (assuming the other side would be the same). A few sprays of hammerite later and the offside rear looked like this: I then masked and sprayed the stub axle, and fitted it all back together after I re-tapped the threads on the beam for the carrier. Caliper cleaned, had to order new seals for it as the old ones were all shot too! So after a minor caliper refurb and paint, it all went back together to look like this: One rear down, now onto the other, and then the fronts! Oh dear! This is where I'm at on the nearside rear: Just cleaned off all the rust, re-tapped the threads and now I'll give it all a quick coat of hammerite and get to work on the caliper. Should be a lot better after all this, my handbrake was absolute pants, it would creak all the time and not actually hold it very well. I managed to torque up the wheelnuts on the side I just finished using only the handbrake, and it didn't slip or creak :). Might not be the same as having the full weight of the car to support but I thought it was a good sign  I think in bleeding it I introduced some air into the system through the master cylinder :mad2: ....I have just bought an Eezibleed kit though so hopefully this will sort it :D
  22. Thanks mate, I'm tempted just to get a new set for peace of mind. I'll let you know if I change my mind though :salute: U mean ur gonna change all of the rubbers? Fair enough, I thought u wanted just one cap![/quote:1w2eprio] Sorry dude, I was going to just change the cap but the rubbers are covered in paint and I'm not sure how old they are that's all. If the dealers only sell them complete I may just get the set and replace them. I'll be starting the front brakes soon (next few days) and I thought you said you don't have any caps yet? Jim
  23. Thanks mate, I'm tempted just to get a new set for peace of mind. I'll let you know if I change my mind though :salute:
