  1. sorry i didnt really describe my situation. firstly im used to quiet engines, my previous car was a 2002 astra sri (1.8), so I may just be fussy here. It's developing a tapping noise on the drivers side at the top. Now i know not much work has been done before, the guy told me it's had new tensioners + Pulleys and he says the cylinders are in very good condition, no signs of wear or anything when the head was off to change the gasket. It's not exactly loud, you probably couldnt pick it up on a camcorder, but its still there, if you get me. Might even be worth me trying to record it to see what you all think though! It runs beautifully, the power is still there and it roars like nothing else, but partly due to the tapping at idle, and partly for peace of mind, i think it could do with a bit of work. I saw a guy selling a reconed head which had been ported and polished on this forum, im considering just buying that and getting a garage to fit it? I would do it myself but time isnt really with me at the mo. Do you think just doing this would be ok? obviously we all want to save money, my end goal is to supercharge it, as i've been reliably(I hope) told that the cylinders and bottom end are immaculate, maybe just replacing the head would be sufficient? Jim
  2. Hi all, i'm looking for a bit of help here. Basically my rado has covered 130k and im looking to either rebuild or get a reconed engine. Can you tell me what would be best? how much am i looking to pay to get this done roughly? also does anyone know any places in or around Norwich that can offer any service like this? I'm fairly new to this all so any help would be appreciated, just not very sure on what to do! its a 1994 VR6 2.9 just want to get it running like new again! cheers, Jim
  3. i suppose your proposed idea sounds like a plan, but for people like myself I would be screwed.... I've been driving for just over 2 years now and ive bought myself a VR6 simply because i love motors. I am a fairly sensible driver too, never speeding or had an accident of my own fault. I'd hate to be branded with the chavs because a chav im not! i'm 20 and i think the vr6 is a great bit of fun!
  4. thanks for the help corozin, but ive already got one!! ive revived this thread just to let the guys who helped me know!!
  5. indeed, I'm a very happy customer!! ill get some pics of the old girl soon, just for your perusal!! Jim
  6. Sorry to revive an old thread, but a few weeks ago I spoke to the guy selling the dragon green corrado. Picked it up on the last day in June, needless to say im very happy. Many thanks for your advice, the car has a few minor problems, but all are on the road to being sorted. I've puchased and fitted a Magnex cat-back system, and also Magnecor HT Leads w/bosch special plugs. Looking good so far!! Jim
  7. mine gets hot too, but im a bit late replyin!! when i was driving my car back from buying it i freaked out and bought a fire extinguisher before driving all the way home!! talk about paranoid, guess its best to be safe though!
  8. im not really bothered to be honest, i've been told a few times that these cars wear the miles like no time has gone by. Id prefer low mileage but rebuild/new engine aint outta the question!! I think leather seats might be a nice touch, it'd be my first! As for travelling, i went to oxford to get my astra sri im quite prepared to travel to get a better motor than i would here, just a bit worried about going so far only to find im not happy with it!
  9. soz bout postin on the other thread lol i wasnt payin attention!!
  10. i thought an introduction was worth the post as well as the questions its why i didnt search. I live with my folks so i dont really have that many outgoings, ive got enough for the insurance which as you imagine wont be that good for me! I do plan to maintain and modify the motor to get a few more horses and such. Do you think 4k would get me a fairly decent one then? Jim
  11. Hi all, I'm 20 and a previous owner of a 2002 1.8 astra sri. I'm now in the market for something a bit nippier and I'm seriously considering the VR6 Corrado. I would be very grateful if anyone can offer me some sound advice? Budget : around £4k I'd like as low mileage and as good nick as possible. What should i look out for? Any known issues? Many thanks, Jim
