That would be pretty ****! Especially for those Storms and all that getting scrapped. Essentially saying "Let's make it a Category A write off, to piss people off and drive them into scrapping their car because no spare parts are available, thus more eco friendly cars on the road, and more money out of the tax payers pocket!" Edit: Just read dragons post, that's good at least they can be broken. More spare parts for us! ;D The above was just a "what if" stance I think if they were to just sit down and think about the whole scrappage thing, they'd think "Oh, bugger, we've just spent all of our tax payers money! Looks like we'll have to close down schools and hospitals etc, but at least everyone gets to drive around in nice shiny new cars AND be in debt!" Gr. As I mentioned before, there's a corrado in a scrapyard down here in Bournemouth which was definitely from a scrappage scheme. I've been taking bits of it recently to keep mine on the road. It's looking sorry for itself now though, been absolutely gutted.

Parked up yesterday, then came back to find this......

I had a 'rocco owner giving me the thumbs up a while back in traffic, they do exist! -
There's a scrapyard down here that allows you to enter and strip things off cars as required. Unfortunately a Corrado has been there a while now, with 'SCRAPPAGE' scrawled down the sides in liquid chalk. It's a real shame as enthusiasts like Corrado owners really aren't getting the best deal with this stupid scheme, now the C count is dwindling even more.

someone must tell debenhams about beetle engines

Notice the brand on the right says 'Redherring' ? Coincidence? Maybe not :D Edit: Look at the others by Redherring, there's a Corvette with a 4 cyl engine  -
I almost bought this car in March  Something didn't add up but I can't remember what, wasn't just the shocking grille though! Did chat with the guy on the phone and was arranging a meet, but I never went in the end, looks like I made the right choice if it's still for sale!!

Pete, If it turns out the spoiler control module is at fault, I have a spare working one, just let me know if you require it and I will get you a price. Jim

Hey that's exactly what I meant! thanks for the pic :) Has anyone got any vids of a VR6 with this setup? would be great!
-
Was talking about the 'suitcase' one yeah, I was trying to find a pic but can't, the Magnex Cat-Back system has just the 'suitcase' and then another silencer at the exhaust tip (probably called the back box). Will it really be stupidly loud? I just don't think its very loud at the moment with the suitcase 'silencer' and the back box fitted, so was gonna go for a bit louder!
-
Hi all, Had a thought today, and a chat with my local performance specialists who said they can take the middle silencer out of the Magnex kit I have and replace it with a straight pipe. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing this and more importantly how the VR6 sounds with it done? I like the noise at rev, but I would like it a little louder so am thinking this is my best option, I will of course be leaving the backbox. If anyone has a similar setup, any chance of a video or audio to see what its like? Thanks :D

Actually you say that mate, I was doing a bit of number crunching (sad I know  ), just seeing what the BHP/litre is on each engine. I used 187 BHP for the VR6 and 137 BHP for the 16v 2.0, which I'd say is a good standard power for a 16v 2 Litre - I had an 02 Astra SRi 2.0 16v once and that had around 134 BHP which I considered good. So anyway, the BHP/Litres are: 16v: 69.1 vr6: 65.4 I'm not sure if there are any rules on number of cylinders and not just displacement, but I'd say the difference isn't that drastic. Can we really say the VR6's power output is ****? I mean compared to today's cars yeah it's deffo less than the BMW 6 cyl lumps and Audi etc, but surely they're really squeezing them now? That's just my 2 pennies worth anyway Opinions welcome :D Jim Edit - I just did a bit more looking, and I know yank cars are generally poop anyway, but seriously!!?? - 1993 Chevrolet Camaro Brief specs: FR 6 cylinder 3350 cc 160.0 bhp/162.2 PS 1470 kg Oh dear..... Yeah I was only jesting mate :D The VR6's output is not far off it's competitors of the time at all. For example:- E36 BMW 325i 24V - 192hp E36 BMW 328i 24V - 204hp IIRC? Merc C280 - 194hp Sierra XR4i 2.9 - 150hp  In any engine, power output is obviously directly proportional to the amount of fuel and air burned. If you look at any engine from the 80s and 90s that had a restrictive cylinder head, such as the VR6, Chrysler V8 (the 3.5l Range Rover / TVR one), 8V Golf GTI etc etc, the specific output is low for the capacity. Especially the Rover V8! 150hp from 3.5l!!! And with the arrival of Cat converters meaning engines had to run 14.7:1 air fuel ratio (otherwise the cat doesn't work) and very mild cam profiles, power was further restricted. And also, in the 90s Germany's car insurance premiums were based on engine power and anything over 200hp was clobbered heavily, hence VW, BMW, Merc etc detuning their motors. Take the 328i and VR6 engines for example. They've both been proven to make 230hp by simply derestricting their intakes 8) So when we laugh at an engine's output for it's size, we have to remember that motor makers are victims of circumstance. They all design their engines to be powerful, but then have detune them again to meet emissions and noise regulations. The only exceptions are the very poorly designed engines, such as the Rover V8 and Ford Sierra's V6, which will never be powerful unless you turbo them. Inevitabley Honda's 100+hp per litre VTEC motor has to get a mention and is why people laugh at big engines making small power outputs. That makes it's power from revs, no other reason. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's just the direction Honda took, but it's unfair to compare an engine that revs to 9000rpm to one that tops out at 6500rpm, imo. Anyway, it's all good engineering practice and gives us the wide variety of engines we have today :salute: Imagine if all cars had to have Toyota Prius engines :pukeright: I wasn't sure if you were joking!! Trouble is I heard the same from a friend when I was chatting down the pub, so two was enough to make me think about it  Thanks for the write up there mate, good bit of info. I'd be very interested to know what you know about getting a VR engine to breathe? I am trying to get the best idea of mods I can do, with a limited budget for real decent power gains. All whilst keeping it under the N/A category. I will drop you a PM :)

not very nice....sorry :(

nice vid mate :) does definitely look good around a track, I especially like the Ferrari that you kept up with in the corners

Hi all, Was just wondering if anyone had any experience or information on refurbishing the Monte Carlos available on Mk4 Golfs as a factory option. I have them fitted to my C and they're looking a bit sorry for themselves, could do with a rub down and some new lacquer I guess? The reason I haven't just gone out and tackled them like this is they're painted in two different colours, and also the lacquered area seems to be almost like a striped aluminium effect. Appears to have lots of tiny grooves under the surface, i dont think it's the 'brushed aluminium effect but it might be. What's the best way to go about this then, sand and re lacquer? or is it too risky taking the stripes off? Thankyou in advance Jim

Sounds like its less likely to be any speed sender cable, and more likely to be the spoiler control unit or even worse the spoiler itself. I'd give those 2 a look first before anything else, spoiler motor could have burned out, or fuse gone too. Jim

After a bit of research, I stumbled upon one of the websites I remember supplying performance VR6 engines. For anyone interested its: http://www.tsr-performance.com/pages/index.asp?SN=0 Jim
-
I think I'll just try it and see, thanks for the help there mate. I'd probably get the 6 branch and cold air intake at the same time the engine goes in, so it will run them from the start. I'm hoping someone might know of companies that sell complete VR6 performance engines? Thanks, James
-
That's great, any mods on it? As everything will be transferred from the existing engine, current exhaust and intake mods will probably stay. I've already got - Magnex cat-back, Decat, K&N filter. I'm more inclined to stick a cold air feed in the intake side, and maybe get hold of a 6 branch manifold, this will all be ok on the VEGE engine? Also just wondering, if you had a garage fit it roughly how much did it cost? Thanks, James
-
Hi all, just been doing some research on new engines and have prices from both VEGE and a place called Prestige Engines. Looking around £1700 for a remanufactured engine from both these people but obviously you can't modify the engine due to the guarantee. My questions - does anyone know what these engines are like? I will ultimately wish to modify the engine (cams, chip etc) so any issues with that? Alternatively I recall seeing a euro website that offers similar engines but already modified for purchase, anyone know of these sites? I cannot seem to find any. Many thanks James

Saw 2 VRs today, one at Clive Atthowe Tuning, looked very tidy and standard :) Other was on the way back from Salhouse Road, saw a VR leaving Blofield and turning towards Blofield Heath, we were in the van so no waves exchanged, looked nice though! was in dark blue.

Regardez! :D http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=Volkswagen&model=Corrado&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on Nice site there, It's missing the Corrado I saw in a Bond film! Tomorrow never dies i think?

Not getting rid of the 'rado... Well OK I have!
Fanjita replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
I deffo agree with this one, was it the S2 that was AWD and a 5 pot turbo roughly 240 hp? Looks beautiful, and a lot like a corrado to be fair (I mistook one for a C having just seen the top half). -
Can't say I'd have tried that, but I was going for the minimal damage approach being skint! As mentioned before, pulling the door pin up had no effect, we got a hold of it with a wire down the front of the driver's window. It didn't budge, we knew we had it as the pin was moving a little, but it just wouldn't pull up.

Oh dear, and that must have been interesting! I suppose it's not as bad as being stuck in a Smart Car :pukeright: or something!
