  2. That number plate seems really familiar.... that makes 2 corrados seen around that time in that area that didn't come. maybe they gave up trying to fight the traffic works!   3. Hi all, was watching tomorrow never dies a few days ago, and I just happened to notice that a certain scene with Bond in his DB7 (i think) there's a corrado behind him in the traffic! I've hunted around for a video online, but I can't find a clip with it in! maybe someone will know.
  4. Hi, and a happy christmas to all Was just going through my photos and noticed that I have quite a good shot of the old VR. If anyone is wondering this is the motor now in the hands of a certain Mr. Coullstar, and looking at my pics makes me regret getting rid of it! I can't work out how to upload it to full res (4000x3000) but if anyone wants it for a wallpaper i'm more than happy to oblige, as I have it as my own and it looks great, PM email address perhaps? its 7 meg though!   5. I might be off here mate, but some of the tomtoms also have an fm transmitter, you sure it's not coming on when you fire it up? Is it one station you're getting interference on or multiple? If it's just one then this may be why.

Thanks for the advice, I knew you'd all agree :) Before I moved I was given the opportunity to get a push bike to use at uni, which I immediately took up as the money I can save on cycling will go in my Rado fund! I will keep my eyes open for any good ones that appear on PH/AT, but until I shift this Audi, I won't be doing anything. I remember when I sold my Rado for 4k(in June), it had full leather interior, does that really increase the value of it? I just find it hard to believe that similar ones are now around the 3k mark! Not a bad thing for me though! Are there any students (or in similar financial woes) here who also own a VR6? Is it easy enough? Aside the insurance, I think you're right about the similarities between my current car and a Rado. Also, I prefer the rados that have been lowered and a bit of engine work done/ low ish mileage. Do you think this is entirely possible on my budget? Thanks all, Jim
  7. I'm sure you're heard this one many times, I chose to sell my VR C due to my upcoming (and rather expensive) uni course. Needless to say I am now hugely regretting that decision and am trying to consider anything to get back in a C!! It was a big jump for me, my current car is an A3 1.8 SE from 1997, and it doesn't make a difference that it has loads of features and drives well, it's not the same without the C!!!! Most people think im nuts that I want a car like that when I'm a student, but if its in the budget, who's to argue? The A3 is worth about 2.5k and you can get a fairly decent VR for 3k now...can't you?? Anyway I'm sure you're all interested to know, I very much regret selling my VR, any suggestions are greatly welcome! Jim
  8. its just a single wide aperture gasket right? i asked parts at vw a few days ago and they said it consists of 2 gaskets!! i think theyre barking up the wrong tree!!
  9. Hi all, I partially mentioned this in another thread, but i was hoping you may be able to shed some light on this for me. Over christmas i spent a lot of money fitting a refurbed/ported/polished head along with some other mods. In 2005 the vr went on the dyno and registered a healthy 198bhp, with a chip and induction kit fitted. Now i have fitted: Magnex Cat-Back De-cat 6-Branch Mani new plugs, magnecor leads, other small mods. It went back on the rollers a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it's now hitting 188bhp, so im a tad confused. i am pretty confident that the mechanics of the engine are now tip top, but i cannot explain why this is low. It's possible the chip is a bit crappy and needs swapping back to original, despite the gains they got from it 2 years ago. My question is, with a remap is it possible to get around the 210bhp mark or are there other mods needed to get there? Probably best aimed at people already at that power level, but anyone in the know i'd really appreciate it!

Hi all, quick question for you. i didnt remove this part so im not sure, but the 3 bolt triangular connection between the mani and cat, does that have a gasket? i've fitted a new 6-branch and de-cat, but i didnt see one from before and didnt fit one!! im hearing a squeak when the car goes over small bumps, reckon that might be why?   13. I commute daily in my VR and my MFA reads about 25mpg. i roughly spend 20 quid a week on fuel, its not bad at all, and i travel 6-7 miles through a city!!
  14. no probs, thanks very much for ur help mat, ill let u know how i get on.. 1 quick question, whats the best way to get the ecu checked? Can get the necessary equipment quite cheaply and do it myself or is it a mechanic jobby?
  15. hi mat, I totally agree, it might be simply that the chip is meant to work with a totally standard vr, to be totally honest i think it was one of those ebay plug and play cheap jobbies anyway. i didn't realise that even with all the work i put into it that 15bhp would be an ambitious gain expectation! I know you can't believe what you see, but the belgian site i bought the Mani from suggested 10% gains!!! I could safely say the decat would free up a few horses though right? In any case, what kind of power would you expect from this sort of setup? 210bhp maybe? (id still be happy with that!) Just slightly changing the subject, is the loss of power through the gearbox normally this high? on the dyno it was 139.8 at the wheels!! a loss of 50bhp?
  16. Hi all, I'm really hoping someone can shed some light on this issue before i spend money on the wrong fix. Basically I've done some serious work to my VR these are as follows; Reconditioned head fitted - skimmed, ported and polished Fitted a racetech 6 branch manifold Fitted a decat purchased from the same seller (belgian ebay company) As you may agree, i was hoping for gains of about 15bhp I had it on the rollers yesterday, and it was producing a not great 188.5bhp(& 165.8 lb/ft), not bad if it were standard, but unfortunately it isnt. The problem is, 2 years ago, a previous owner had it on the rollers too, and, having only been chipped, it was producing 198bhp (have the graph to show it). my initial expectation was roughly 215bhp and i would be chuffed, but unfortunately i didnt even come close. I was told by the roller operator that he suggested my engine was mechanically sound, despite the high mileage (134k) and that the chip i had installed could be holding it back. there are also fuel ratio plots and it does seem to raise after about 5000 revs, and it looks like the torque plot has a bit of a trough and then increases again. please could anyone suggest what i should do? I was thinking of reinstating the original chip, and getting a new map done, problem is this company would want £450 for a piggyback ECU!!! i'd be very grateful for any help you can offer, Jim

    Best Headlights?

    it's cool Ritchy, in all honesty i think you've only got chrome or matt black in pros, the only other thing i would suggest is to paint them. it should be fairly straight forward to dismantle and spray, but dont hold me to that. I agree those rear lights are sold, they look pretty decent and have LEDs so good to look at and long lasting, as i mentioned, it'll be the smoked ones, anyone got any pics of smoked rear lights on a dragon green VR? cheers

    many thanks all, i think i will go for the black angel eyes, they seem to be not too over the top, so i will see. also, does anyone have any input on what rear lights go well with dragon green? im considering a set of These cos they look fairly good, what do you all think? will smoked look ok on a green car??

Hi all, I'm looking to get some new lights, front and rear, just wanted peoples opinions..... ideally i want to improve the light output the current originals produce...which is pitiful right now. I've only really seen the angel eye headlights, and i think theyre kind of borderline chavvy, not to say i haven't ruled them out. Can i get anyone's opinion on the best headlight assemblies to go for? I will worry about bulbs later, just after a decent set of lights with a good output capability. ill probably stick some smoked or clear lights on the back, my C is dragon green, any pointers on which rear lights look best on that colour?? thanks, Jim
  20. a neat little trick a lot of porsche designers have done is to stick the gearbox at the opposite end to even the weight distribution. If the engine is at the back then it may be a bit dumb, but you could stick the gearbox at the front on a driveshaft and then send the power out accordingly. seems a bit overkill though
  21. see i was thinking that steve, but my old man insisted it was fine. Surely if the oil wasnt being pumped up properly my warning light would be on?? how much to get it pressure tested? Jim

  25. not sure about the oil. I understand its probably just the tappets, but id really like to give it all an overhaul, so if there's a rebuilt head going, my thoughts are why not? unless you would disagree, I mean in the term of things there's a lot more going on in the head than at the bottom end, so maybe leave that one for a bit and get the head sorted?
