Ah Rob, you crazy

Cool  I'm Jon Burgundy, doesn't take a genius to work out why

I do agree with you but it is a time issue when you use the car as a daily drive as well. I have't got room in my garage so I have to work on the drive and sod doing that in this weather. Plus a work away quite a bit so that makes it even more difficult. Maybe I could start bringing my C to you instead of the VW specialist! :) I wouldn't charge £40+ an hour that's for sure! :salute: Just keep me in noodles and beans like any good student  Would be fun to have my own garage sometime, if I don't end up in some other branch of engineering. true, and i have done the majority of bits and bobs to my car myself but if your workign a 50hr week and the weekends are busy, theres not the time needed to pull a car to bits and change everything! :( but i like the idea of the boost monkey garage for unwell corrado's  Have to say they are spot on for calling me and emailing with questions rather than going in gung ho, its an audi tuning specialist and the service manager (justin) was a mk2 golf nut so he's very good at looking after the corrado as he always liked them... thing is theres not alot you can do, if nuts snap and parts foul things have to be replaced and made to fit, luckily they have the ability and skills to do it![/quote:gt6wze5w] Wow, 50 hours is killer  I take it your rear carriers turned up ok then? :salute: Yeah, those are good points. I never really think about taking mine to a garage cos I can never afford it, never have been able to either  Sometimes it is nice just to be able to send your car off when it's unwell and have it returned nice and fixed

Oh, has the forum yet to be written?

I'll join :salute:

This is exactly why I only ever take my car to a garage for MOT or things that are100% impossible for me to do without expensive equipment. Teaching yourself basic maintenance and even some other jobs that garages charge a lot for really do help keep costs down. I wouldn't be able to have a C if I didn't have the skills I've taught myself, really does speak volumes when you're running on a tight budget :salute:

U bends? That will seriously hinder performance from a thermodynamics point of view, you want as shallow an angle as possible not a 180 degree bend! Is there nothing else that can be used?
-
Next will be refurb hubs and new bearings, then put the 280s on and bleed the system and also swap the shock absorbers. Top mounts are better off as coffee coasters at the mo! I need to get a job before all that happens though.
-
Bring it on  It's all Mk2 esque parts I've done on mine though, building up years of experience!
-
I kinda do... I have a Nokia  better than nothing I guess, this one seems pretty good from the stuff I have taken. Auto-Focus helps a LOT

Well I have been playing with shafts all day! :fondle:

Oh my life, it's actually fixed  Am I dreaming? Is this heaven?

Driveshaft greased up, boot slid on and out the way, plus thrust bearing and concave washer located correctly. Circlip in place and ready to go. Outer CV started to push onto driveshaft, I made sure that I didn't catch the screw thread with the hammer this time :camp: Outer CV joint then nudged backwards towards the bearing and concave washer, so the circlip has passed through the bearing cage and sprung back out the other side. Rubber boot located around the fat end! Gave up on these CV clamps as I didn't have the proper pliers for them and so used S/Steel cable ties instead All finished! I'm dubious as to whether these ties will hold the boot on, but I'll take it round the ring road later tonight and see if it wants to behave. Located and ready to start torquing up again for the second time in as many weeks. Who wants to play spot the new part? Please work now... End of the day, I still need to find out whether the bearing in this hub is any good or whether I should get the spare hub re-bearing'd and then swap it out... again!
-
End of the driveshaft (without outer CV joint on) you can see the circlip groove very clearly. Knackered old CV joint thread (Might get this lathed down/re-tapped as the joint is perfect still) and the little circlip which goes in the groove on the end of the driveshaft. The two then push together. Old and new Thrust bearing on the left, and concave washer on the right. These sit up past the circlip on the driveshaft.

Outer CV just arrived! Good timing DHL :salute: Will pop that fella on this afternoon and go for a drive (the first in almost a week! Can you say cold turkey? :gag:) Doesn't come with a thrust bearing, and seemingly 2 hub nuts  but that's ok, the old thrust bearing is good enough to use. For those who understand the engineering behind CV joints :luvlove:

:salute: good work Toadimus Maximus.

Um nah. Leather option seats are exactly the same as standard seats but with leather covers (both early and late style), these are the seats Storms came with. Then there was the Recaro sports seat option (extended bolsters and tilt handles on both sides, recaro logo on the seat back) which came with cloth or leather covering. To confuse matters almost ALL VW seats were actually made by Recaro..... Only those badged Recaro and with the extended bolsters etc are the Recaro sports seat option. So electric leather seats which seem to go for £800+ aren't actually Recaros then unless they ave it stiched in the back? I knew that all VW seats were made by Recaro hence the confusion!
-
Aren't all leather interiors in Corrados automatically Recaros? How can you tell the difference?

Wind in teh W1LL0WZ!

Sweet! God, you had me double guessing my wiring then, and the night before my electronics resit! :ignore:
-
That's what I said dude :| but yeah

well if a pipe had come off the reservoir would be leaking... but then again it'd only leak when the pump's on, i.e. when the engine is running. have you tried running the engine on idle and looking under the car?
-
mmm, good point. I was thinking aloud and then realised it prob won't be that :brickwall:
