  1. As far as I'm concerned anything after an H-reg (my newest car) is new! Good purchase Stu, looks like you/ the mrs. has some torque-heavy, maintenance-light motoring for the next few years
  2. This has been gone over many times before. Serious pearoast with that petrolheads link guys.
  3. Good man, sorting the bills first :salute:
  4. Yeah think so. I hardly ever remember it's there as there's so many pipes / fuel lines going over the top!
  5. it's embedded to the bracket :salute: so it's all a one-piece that you just bolt onto the block. do you have a little bit of thread sticking out on that corner of the head?
  6. I have a spare one, I'll see if I can "hot water" test it to make sure it's still acting as it should and wang it in a jiffy :salute:
  7. Sorry for the blur, but you get the idea: bottom left hand corner of rocker cover, just below oil filler cap :salute:
  8. The line-up: From left to right: (let me know if you want your plate blanking out :salute: ) Just waiting for the angled shots to arrive and I'll stick them up too.
  9. Awesome. I've been having issued with the front axle nut on mine too, good job I don't need the car at the moment! Any more engine-type updates? or upgrades?! wtfco-rad-do
  10. Ouuuccchhh dude, way to punch me in the brain with a project update!    Bodywork is looking fresh, your friend has got skillz y0 8) I hate doing bodywork, mine's just falling apart mechanically! :cuckoo: Anyways, keep the updates coming anf congrats on the kid
  11. the trigger for that light is a little switch underneath the handbrake, so it sounds like the actual lever itself was wobbling when you booted it and caused the light to flash a little.
  12. Looks tidy mate, H reg 16vs ftw!
  13. That's not corrado specific, I think Mk2 boxes have that plate on the bottom too. Good picture though.
  14. Do a search dude, someone has posted the answers THIS WEEK!
  15. Ahh you nutter! fair enough, build looks like it'll be a goodun. Paint is better than powder on subframes etc as powdercoat will fracture if a stone hits it hard, whereas paint will just chop off and you can recoat. paint ftw.
  16. Pretty common. VW used some kind of loctite on the splines of the stub and in the wheel bearing making it hard to get off. To get mine off I was seriously smacking it as hard as I could which a lump hammer and drift for ages. This resulted in the end of the stub "belling" out and I couldn't gett he nut back on. I had to use an angle grinder to remove the belling and then a thread file to clean the thread up, major PITA that took a few hours. Good job they left plenty of thread on the end of the stub eh. Best to use a puller (they sell one for this task that bolts on with the wheel bolts) next time. What kind of puller do you mean? Is it similar to the one used to remove a wheel bearing race? If it wasnt a sunday when I was doing mine I would have happily paid 25 to save a couple of hours greif. Depends if you enjoy fixing these things but I was frustrated with the job that was onluy supposed to take an hour taking more like 7 hours. Yeah, to be honest I just sold my 50mm inlet manifold, so I'm thinking I might use the money from that to order a new CV joint. Will need another 8p circlip as they're a must-replace part!
  17. outer CVs seem to be £25 + postage and that's not even a VAG item  Edit: this would be a reeeallly good time to be able to split the shafts off my spare wheel hubs... :brickwall:
  18. Yes, it probably will be now and yes you're right about the fine and normal M20... really should have paid more attention in CAD! :brickwall: Oh well, back to square one I guess. P.S. yeah bro, I think that's what the 2.5 on the die means, 2.5mm pitch as opposed to something like a 1.25 or 1.5 which the hub nut looks like. P.P.S. the outer CV is a kind of stub axle. It's funnel shaped, with the cage and bearings sitting in the conical end, and the pointy end being the threaded and splined part.
  19. These are looking suspiciously like different thread pitches to me... what do you guys think? :?
  20. Yeah they yellow pugs are the diesels or the 1.1 petrols IIRC
  21. Wowzer, looks like a fun build. Must have cost a few pennies! Are you allowed to use a towing vehicle which is lighter than the car being towed? Nowt wrong with a 205 though, they're proper workhorses. :salute: Build cost to date?
  22. Ah cool, free hoses!  :salute: Aaah yes, I hadn't noticed that. I think you're right about the carbon steel, I think the HSS is High Speed Steel?
  23. Once you line them up, you will see the big hole is to let you access the vertical subframe bolts for what I call the subframe wings (the bits which go up into the chassis rail either side \_/) The other holes are just from manufacturing: you don't need metal in those areas for the wishbone to retain all of it's strength though :salute:
