Down hill = oil in valvetrain moving towards front of engine i.e. inlet valves and stem seals. I'd start your investigation there :salute:

Removing smashed and seized rear bearing - Garage Wont admit
boost monkey replied to yeti's topic in Drivetrain
 erm the golf has been in pieces for 2 years and i'm still finishing slowly rebuilding it... the passat was got 2 weeks ago for work cos got a new job where i will now be covering 30k miles a year and didnt fanc ruining the corrdo to get to work and back... C was used daily for the past 18months but now have turned gay! - and have an unhealthy overdraft! cheers for the offer though man, judging by the rusted bolts for the stub axle i wanna try and remove it! i'll take a pic now of the puller i was trying to use, unfortunately there doesnt seem to be enough lip left to remove the remains, the underside is smashed and the lip is broken off, but helpfully the main collar is still stuck fast :([/quote:3s6fdqjo] I'm intrigued as to why the word "fast" was starred out  Reckon VR6 got bored and edited my post :nono: -
As carpy, should be interchangeable. I have one in the shed from a 92 K 2.0 16v that I plan to put on my 90H 1.8 16v at some point.

plastic ring is the rear seal for a mk2-esque pattern rear bearing set... probs why you don't recognise it steve! Good point you made though, stub axles that are scored by bearing failure are paperweights now. Worth picking another up if you have the cash, else I can send you a damage free one for a few quid :salute: -
The rack will loosen up, definitely. The new tie rods I put on are rigid, need serious beef just to bend them off centre! Old ones slop around a lot, but that doesn't mean they're broken.

I can send you a stub axle? Besides that, I can't think of how you'll get that off. Actually yes I can, use an inner race/bearing puller that you'd use on a front hub to remove the bearing fully....or take it to another garage in one of your other swanky cars  -
Maybe Corrados have souls like Herbie the love bug!
-
T-dog, you crazy mutha! only thing that springs to mind is my remote central locking completely packed up one day, meaning I had to climb in from the boot (I have weird key to lock combos). Then about 2 weeks ago, it just started working again by itself... weird!

Ordered a new wheel bearing today. It suddently got quite loud this evening (this is on the spare hub) just as a car passed, I thought their exhaust had gone! Hopefully, I'll pick up a cheap hub puller and use a good friend's press to swap it out
-
fair enough, that's a good price considering. I was just wondering if the £200 they qouted when you thought it was the pump was for the rack instead? My wheel still points to 1pm, no idea why  really should get off my arse and grab the socket set.
-
so they charged you £200 for a new rack? Man, I need to get rebuilding my spares
-
Buy it, scan it :salute:

Don't hate the player, hate the GAME    No, I got a call at 5pm a little last-minute but I start tomorrow... £9 an hour, and no tax to pay... hard life

Easily my favourite non DBP Corrado (Schimmel wins that :luvlove: ) Bally, I want your lights, stance, and wheels. -
Yeah, I'm employed again now, woop! Maybe i'll manage to get those shocks finally... bills first though.
-
Yeah I know cheers mate, was unemployed when I did that. At least I can see the level now, and the tank'll have to come off again when the silicones get done :D :salute:

AS I mentioned, some of it is from my Mk2 Golf / Jetta days :camp: Yeah, the rear late bumper is Moonlight, as is the filler cap in my room (but that's £50  )

Everything came out of the little shed in the background, that's where I work :salute: Hoarding obsolete parts for a car you're hoping to keep in a while (esp. when you have 2 dailies in the family?) sounds like a wise plan to me. There are tons of parts that neither of us can use though, like the 256s, mk2 chassis parts, etc. It's a shame one C is early and one is late really, although it means that any parts we stumble upon can be used/stored for either car which is good in a way I guess. Would be nice to have more panels though. (I still say rust-proof Carbon Fibre panels ftw  )

Irish Evo - X Imported Friday, Stolen Saturday, now spotted
boost monkey replied to was8v's topic in General Car Chat
That's ingenious! Tell a massively widespread community of people on a car forum that a car is stolen. They'll obviously know what to look out for  -
So, as it was a nice day I decided to empty out the "workshop" and tidy it up. Started by moving everything out onto the grass... Taken from upstairs...quite a lot of stuff! This may answer your question: WW2 Nazi Party VW Workman's Badge 1938
-
have you got all the stub axle washers bearings and nuts on in the right order and fully tightened? Sounds like something isn't doing it's job properly.
-
That's a good deal  new manifold and downpipe are ~£100 each last time I looked.

HOLY DOUBLE THREAD HIJACK BATMAN!! :batman:    You guys need to use the search too

No leak is normal dude, and worth getting sorted asap. Any pictures? What you don't want to do is leave it until it's pissing out of the tank, then go to a public place like a service station with it still pissing out of the tank and fill it up some more
