Hi team, I completely forgot that KR heads have tapered / narrowing spark plug holes on them. Can anyone point me in the direction of a place where I can get this socket from? I used to have one, but I don't think I have it anymore... 1/2" or 3/8" drive absolutely fine. Cheers!

^ yeah, it's true. The water turns to steam in the chambers which literally steam cleans the inside of your engine.
-
p.s. if you do get a different shaft, could you gut the skinny one in half please? I just have to know what it's made out of now
-
It is more likely to be galvanised than an actual alloy (who would pay silly money to get one of those made?) and my money is that it's a factor driveshaft...unless you can see any VW Audi markings on it? Thickness wise, I reckon it would still transmit all the torque you are asking of it (200lbs ish?) as you must remember that torgue is generated linearly, and even if it was generated in one lump sum, you are more than likely to spin the tyres before you start buckling a steel bar. Tensile modulus for steel is about 200 Giga Pascals    for you non engineers, that's fookin huge.

Boost Monkey's old Golf... (56k, go make some tea)

Ha ha thanks! Yeah it's been an awesome learning curve, that's for sure. Did want to keep that car, but the rear end was falling to bits and I sold it after it just scraped past the MOT... :( -

So, the burgundy 'Radley isn't quite in my ownership but thanks to all that have been helping me troubleshoot! Next time the Prodigy and I go up, we'll be bringing it back regardless of whether the engine's running or not. Managed to pick up a spare KR at an awesome price too which is good news. Will keep you posted :D -
Yeah, I was going to say it looks like they hit something quick, but then a medium-speed impact with no brake application would turn out pretty bad too. Anyone you know?
-
Great, thanks for the update. I think it might be switchable, albeit by aftermarket means as some people in Germany have switchable 4wd on some mk2 golfs.
-
What the hell  did they hit a meteor?

No spring compressors!   your old man is hardcore.
-
That's a brilliant post, cheers!

Does anyone know how quickly Haldex changes from 2wd to 4wd electronically? (in milliseconds if possible) And can you bypass this sensor and use a switch to change between the two modes?
-
that noise was a wishbone bush on Prodigal's G60, I was quite convinced it was a CV boot playing up though.
-
Ah i see the pdf file has the opposite side of that formula :D
-
Flusted, if you're planning to use these for your G60, then why not use this formula instead: Fuel flow (cc per min) = (HP x K)/C Where: HP is maximum horsepower, K is a constant (4.6 for normally aspirated, 5.6 for charged engines) C is the number of engine cylinders. You can work out the exact cc fuelling you require depending on how much power you want to run. (Courtesy of a textbook)

well it has a resonance weight on it, so my money is that it's a genuine part or has at least been engineered that way. It does look a lot smaller though.
-
you'll stop you'll lose all drive when one of the CV joints finally gives way, even if it's just one side. but you can still replace the CV joint itself if you have to :) the shaft will be fine.

any updates?

^^ true story. I still say home-engineered clutched supercharger ftw 8)

gearbox end, basically all the electrical connectors. Have got a blue on the cold start valve, a white on the WUR but a couple of loose ones so any pics would be a m a z i n g :D

KR 16v not starting (done search) LONG POST
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in Engine Bay
Aha, cool cheers. We couldn't have done that last time as we didn't have one of those stupid thin sockets which fits down the tapered spark holes in a KR head. But will see if we can find one to take up next time. -
best read so far    no, uh, engine electrical connectors pics kicking around... *is still on the scrounge*

KR 16v not starting (done search) LONG POST
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in Engine Bay
Aaah ok cool. It does seem like there's a ton of stuff that it could be at the mo. I think when we go up next time if we can't get it running we will tow it back just to save trips! -

*waits for the procedure* Edit: I thought the cams were timed together with a small chain anyways. Surely this wouldn't be out...? :? -

No, i'm afraid not... From original post: Timing issue? not sure whether the timing is out, as we didn't have a strobe with us, plus Russ said that the car would only attempt to start in the position that the dizzy was currently in. Cambelt done recently, but sounds like it's worth a check?
