How about a full model/colour poll [Attention Corrado Nerds]
boost monkey replied to v8rumbler's topic in General Car Chat
You can get this information from the DVLA but they will charge for it. -
Sorry, when you said lines I thought you meant hoses. Yeah, the hard brake lines can be made to fit, that part was obvious in my head :s but 16v ones won't work :D
-
2. no iirc. 3. furthest away from reservoir working towards nearest, so yeah your order seems fine.
-
If the tank skin is the same thickness as the body panel, I'm sure the weight of a full tank's worth of petrol should be enough to push a dent out.

VR6 Mocal cooler boys - show us your temps!

I think you all need dry sump systems..... :D -
The oil in the breather system (if that's what you're talking about) is a mixture of different things. It includes: - unburnt fuel vapour and burnt fuel in the form of hydrocarbons that has leaked past piston rings before they have sealed against the bore (called blow-by), - oil mist that has been vented from the crankcase to keep pressure down and reduce pumping losses. It recirculates into the intake so that it can be properly combusted the next time around, instead of venting the noxious gases to atmosphere like they used to do. So, in short, it's designed that way. But if you want to buy a catch can and dirty it up with vapours and stuff so be it.
-
Why are you using one? to eliminate starvation?
-
Sounds sensible kev. brake power is the maximum an engine can achieve if you ran it alone on a dyno/test cell, regardless of transmission and associated losses. I'm glad my trans losses arent 40hp, else it would only leave me with 7.4

The first most important machinery in my life!

Burgundy? Great colour :D welcome to the motley crew. -
...Oh yeah  sorry about that, just realised! Too much engineering for one day. Just gimme a banana....
-
65 out of 336 is about 19% which seems abour right to me. 2p.

Other way around, Mr. Boost monkey! :dorky: 190kw ~= 250hp I'm afraid not, my Scandinavian friend. My 1.8 16v engine is 140hp or 100kW. 1 horsepower = 0.745699872 kilowatts from the Google.
-
a leakdown test wll confirm if it's rings. Did you do one already or just a compression test?
-
There's only 0.745kW to 1horsepower, so 250kw would be ~190hp
-
Exactly. more space for oil to flow, and technically the crankshaft will be floating more on the oil than a small film on a metal bearing which is much better. Downsides are smaller contact area so increase the force (cylinder pressure through charging) and those bearings won't last very long.
-
Lets say a standard VR makes 200hp. Well Kevs makes 392 @ 11psi - therefore divide 192 by 11 = 17.45 56 from 3psi - same maths = 18.6 Not that much difference fella. I really don't think it's that linear. You have so many more factors to think about when you increase intake air pressure than just x times y. IATs for example. But if I'm wrong, then fair enough :D
-
56hp from 3psi..... hmmmm.
-
well a grooved bearing would introduce weakness over a solid one, so you could be right. It's not like VW knew there were going to be some nutters slapping turbos on them!
-
very interesting. I guess they are strong as feck then, although having a very linear spooling turbo will deffo help with the journal loading.

VR6 dry sump system Dissertation (R&D Project)
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in Engine Bay
Great advice, thanks for that. My initial report(Project Plan) was a bit light and sketchy so I got some feedback from the guy who marked it and he said use a few more pics so I tried to get more relevant stuff involved. I'm designing pump in CAD at the mo. Bit behind time since it's week 10 of term, but if I get cracking I should be ok. -
Prod has been known to fit Samcos at 1am, albeit in the summer so not too chily. I think we all know the pain of wrestling with those stupid hoses and clips!

VR6 dry sump system Dissertation (R&D Project)
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in Engine Bay
i.e. lots of pics  it's 20% of my whole dissertation and I can reuse all that material which is good. When I actually start designing and testing stuff, things wil get a lot more interesting. -
What's it like owning a car new enough to have a lambda? My K-Jet adjusts itself by how much fuel vapour gets into the cabin I think.
-
p.s. after writing my VR6 dry sump design interim report, it made me think about how your bottom ends are lasting with the boostage. What bearings do you use?
-
Due to the theral conductivite or water being so much higher than air, I would expect a Chargecooler system to outperform a similar Aircooled (so to speak) system. Do any of your ECU logs include things like bmep (brake mean effective pressure) or imep (indicated " " ")? I'd love to have a nosey!
