After looking through my paperwork and doing some window shopping for how much my early 16v would cost to insure again, I had the good news that I have 4 years NCB! I also had the bad news that it was issued lastly in January 2009, and is only valid for 2 years. So I'm trying to work out what to do. Whether it's worth insuring something cheap (maybe even the plum?!) to keep the NCB going. I'm thinking it may pay off in the long run.

I think the Denso Marsden ones are OEM for our cars? Maybe someone can confirm.

an obvious one, but have you checked the earths? if something went pop, then the earth point may have got scorched, providing a bad connection from now on.

I've done those on my head before. IIRC, instead of pushing the spade onto the flat connector inline with the sensor, you slide it on at 90 degrees (across the top flat) and it should still work fine. No idea why they changed them. If the spade doesn't fit, you might need to replace the wire connector but it isn't too hard.

Yeah, they can be a bit fiddly. IIRC you have to take the joint off and swap the boots over and then reassemble the joint.

the little 1.4 are fine up to motorway speeds. They have close ratios as standard and a snorty Weber/Pierburg on them which does well enough. I had one before my Mi and they're great for urban work. Don't demand the attention or price of a GTi too. Leave more money for the C!

the plastic air guides on each side are best removed using a socket with extension bar attached, they're a bit too recessed for using just a spanner or normal socket iirc.

It's a real shame how you've been treated matey. Perhaps if you're able to keep it you will get some of your own spanner time in and learn how things work? I did all that back when I was 18 because I refused to pay some eejit £40 an hour to scratch his head and flick through a Haynes manual. I'm sure if you put out some threads about parts wanted, you may be able to get your car sorted quickly and cheaply with VAG parts, although being a daily might be a bit of a problem. Either way, best of luck.

well i'm guessing the stock VR6 box redlines somewhere about 150ish, if the OEM car was rated for 146mph.

tbh, my mk2 16v was the other car I sorely miss too. So I should be right at home with the C :D My 205 would tramline and get real jittery past 120 too. I only did it a couple of times, and it was enough

Definitely! I'd have to say that my pugsley was the best car I ever owned too. But with a fresh 160hp it was a 15sec car, and could pull 140 if you were suicidal enough. I'll try to find a pic of mine, it was all 1.6 on the outside. I'm hoping the Corrado will live up to its reputation. Only time will tell I guess.
