Cazza's Storm- Gone :( ...S3 Has Arrived! :)
boost monkey replied to CazzaVR's topic in Members Gallery
The Plum is more like a Turnip at the mo - still purple, but covered in lots of muck! Well not literally, but the seats have changed colour :gag: Andy will be getting his car back up soon I think, he tells me it needs "a lot of work" so I point to my C and say "Really?" He likes to do things properly which can take time. His probably just needs some fresh petrol and it will be good to go! In the mean time, I'm using my Carrera 8) yeah, the pushbike :cuckoo:  -
Yandards' 16VG60 - Running Report 23 Jul 15
boost monkey replied to Yandards's topic in Members Gallery
Hey Yan, long time mate! Sorry to hear you've had issues with this. It has always been one of my favourite threads to watch  Hope it all gets sorted, and I can appreciate honing bores in situ after my placement year! -
-
Subframe looks amazing when it's stripped. I know the pain of trying to get one of those clean. Keep the updates coming :D

What if Carlsberg made Corrados....? Interesting :D
-
If you google Corrado TSI you get this thread :D ace!

How did you find the 1 series? I always thought the blacks looks like it melted and then they just smoothed it all together :-s

Had an interesting morning so far. I've got my bike back on the road after not riding it for over a year, so that's been great. I wanted to change my thread title to "Red Carrera RWD @ 70psi" but I thought I might get flamed a little bit  Been cutting back the hedge that has overgrown onto the Plum today, and had 2 shocks! First was that I found my car keys in the ignition :brickwall: and the other was I cut through the hedge strimmer power lead roughly around the C-pillar :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: so I'm just about to rewire that if I can. More updates as they happen.

Don't be daft. Fair point. Thaniks for the verbal slap :salute: Who cares how retro or how modern the engine is as long as it works?! KR's will do stratospheric miles with a minium amount of TLC and they're easily fixable at home. What's not to like? So it has two different drive belts?! What's that got to do with the price of cheese?! Sheesh! ;)   Hi Jim. How is your radiator/cooling system? did it ever get fixed? I just think my engine bay looks really old. The magnesium oxide on the intake and the many cobswebs didn't help to be honest... :cuckoo: student eh? flippin tax dodgers. I have been thinking about the low weight and efficiency of the TSI's, that would be kinda cool. I know of one in a Mk2 Rallye, but not seen it work. I wonder what bottom end it uses...Can't remember if the next gen higher CC 4-pot blocks have revised mounting positions...hell, i'm all up for stripping my bay and then making a CAD model to be honest

Man, money is beyond tight.I've had 1 single day of temp work all summer, stupid recession :bad-words: Considering breaking the plum for parts :brickwall: :help: :cuckoo:

So, I forgot that my C has 2 sets of locks - Drivers door and Ignition on one key, and passenger door and tailgate on another.... it only just occured to me today that this is probs cos the car has been stolen before and someone has shattered both the driver door and ignition locks, therefore needing a second key....anyways... I only found the drivers door key, so I crawled along the hedge and opened her up. So glad that she still smells good! :salute: I had a look around inside and all seemed well. Not too many arachnids chewing up my interior or making a nest of doom in it. I popped the bonnet and had a poke around...ah yeah, it had been left with the front copper brake lines just waiting to be connected up to the calipers etc. I still haven't done the brakes yet, although I have found 2 brand new rear calipers and one brand new front G60 in the pile of parts in the attic.... I really must read back over the last few pages and try to remember what I was doing this time 18 months ago! Also had a look around the old KR. God, it's archaic. little cold start injector in the manifold, the K-Jet system, 2 different drive belts for Alt>water pump > crank, and also PAS > water pump > crank! Really makes me want a newer engine, or at least one that is MUCH more revised / modernised. Undercarriage is still looking fresh though, the big wishbone bolts from bone to subframe still have that blue anti-rust stuff showing - proof that my dousing with waxoyl worked wonders. I'm hoping to fill the sills and possibly interior of doors and chassis rails (and other cavities) before too long. I have a big one of those pump Waxoyl cans kicking about at Prod's house :-) The battery has been out the whole time, and the rear box is off at the mo at the rubber perished (and I never put it back after doing rear brake lines and beam) so there's no chance of starting it. I'm pretty sure this engine is shot anyways as it's the same one that overheated in April 09 (I think) when the water pump pulley friction material imploded. I'd like to pull the engine out, but the hydraulic seal in the engine crane jack has let go, so I need to work my magic on that too. Realised today that I am deperately short on tools also, as I pretty much only have a 1/2" drive set of sockets to my name.... Guh. So, plenty to do...!

Yeah I hear you with the design cockup! We realised with the banjo that it would interfere with another connection on the wastegate (i.e. i drew part of the wastegate) and used the awesome collision detection tool when I mated them - so cool! In the end, the guys just machined part of the wastegate down... lol, it's quite like Africa in the Caribbean - just cut bits off til it fits! One of the engineers told me this: If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape, If it doesn't move and should - WD40, If that doesn't fix it - Electrical problem
-
Good points: Interior doesn't smell mouldy, so it's all superficial (still has that nice Corrado interior smell), Bro unscrewed the aerial before he put the car cover on last year - didn't even know you could do that!
-
Kip, I did a bunch of design whilst I was in Barbados. The main engineer of the rally car we were building (the datsun shaped spaceship) needed a larger banjo fitting for the air line to the tial wastegate. He had some CAD knowledge so we came up with a design that could be made in hosue from a single stainless steel billet! it's very very cool designing something, and then the folowing day holding in your hand the thing you were just calculating on a screen  DEFINITELY going to go into design when I finish next May! I'll try to dig out all the pics and put them up here. I did some designs for a local CNC company too :D
-
That looks like a great day out Andy! the weekend before I start the mayhem again too  I'll speak to Prod and see if we can come up. It will probs be in the CR-V though... :(

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome :D Solidworks still, although I have a copy of Catia now and also Autodesk 3ds Max Design (looks kinda architecturally) Been really windy recently in the Ox, and my car cover tore and then blew off the car. Had a little look around: Good points: The localised Waxoyling I did on all the parts I swapped before I left is still good, Paint is still in good condition and water beads off the wax applied circa November 2009  Bad Points: The whole interior is green with mould, The aerial has snapped off. This is a very condensed bad points list. I am still acclimatising back into the world of Corrado ownership  To be blunt, the engine is fubar, the brakes still need finishing (i'll probs pull it all out and check it seeing as it's a safety system!) the whole car needs rewiring and I still have a year of uni left :dorky: Also, I got engaged recently to my missus who I started seeing before I went away. I think it was the fact she travelled across the city and bought the car cover and promptly fitted it when I was away which made me think she was a keeper! So that's all due for next June time. She does like the Corrado though, so there's a good chance it will stay 8)

Cazza's Storm- Gone :( ...S3 Has Arrived! :)

Looks great Cazza! That's my perfect black C :luvlove: mine is still laid up at the mo, and Prodigal's is off the road too. Soon though.... :D -
Wow, you have been busy! I'm glad your wagon is still evolving :D

Hey everyone, i've been away for over a year :/ misseed you guys. Internet in Barbados was really sketchy, hence my low profile. But i'm back now, literally moved into my student pad this weekend, ready for my last year. I've chosen my Dissertation project: The design and optimisation of a complete dry sump system including the centrifugal oil air separator  should be a lot of fun. I'm expecting the report to be CAD heavy with some really good results. It would be amazing if I could adapt one for an actual engine (I may have to do that) so donor blocks always welcome! Anyways, I hope to be spreading myself liberally about the forum from now on :luvlove: Jon aka Boostmonkey :salute:

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to seeing how well the Waxoyl has worked on all the new parts I put on - getting on for a year now since it's been laid up. The brakes never got changed, so I will just remove them and toss them in the bin when I get back. Prodigal wrapped the car up really nicely at the end of last year, so I'm expecting it to be in pretty good condition. I wanna see if I can get some CAD temping work over the summer, as my normal temp work is painfully dull :/ I've really enjoyed my time out here, not as tanned as I might have hoped but still got a few days before I go home! :D

Plenty Rob :D finished officially yesterday, fly back Weds 7th. Been doing a LOT of CAD and design. Creating schematics to be fed into a plasma cutter CNC machine. Stress testing parts on the rally car, T10, using FEA. Drawing the whole rally car bolt by bolt. It's a Datsun 120Y with a huge wing, granite rear axle, Nissan SR20DET 2litre 16v turbocharged engine with full engine management and ALS. Ran in Group B modified for Rally Barbados 2010, and just finished a drifting event last weekend where it tore up everything :D Here's one of the renders of my CAD assembly - work in progress: Here's a video of it in action :D :D :D :D :D

I'm back a week thursday and have waaaaayyyyy too many ideas! definitely past my bank account

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
boost monkey replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
I thought about my Corrado today. Shame i'm still 4000 miles from it! Back in 10 days though
