  1. the grub screw only holds the disc to the hub when the wheel is off: the wheelbolts will do this otherwise. And the front pistons don't wind in like the rear ones do.... I guess the tool is still useful though!
  2. handablake on.... handablake offf...... gooooooood Dude-san.....
  3. Ok, so I went a bit stir crazy and attacked the new caliper instead: With the use of ProdigalSon's piston windback tool, I set to work. Ok, wasn't getting very far so called in reinforcements... Got a bit further, but still needed more power....called in the artillery... Yeaahhh, that's MUCH better! Some serious beans and a *crack* later... Bada bing, bada boom. Had to brace the caliper down so it wouldn't move and stand on it too! Piston's in good condition, sometimes they tend to get corroded which obviously doesn't help the sticking caliper syndrome. Inside of the bore / body looks ok too. I'll have to leave it for a while so the plusgas can evaporate. ...and the spare piston that 3CM very kindly sent with. Cheers again fella! So, not an entirely wasted evening! I might even prep it ready for paint too... Just needs a brief blow-over really, still quite black.
  4. Why not replace the caliper? I've got one I was going to refurb that I'd be happy to send you for just the postage. Which side do you need?
  5. the bushes are bonded in. Your best bet is buying new wishbones without bushes in if you're planning to uprate the bushes in them. Else factor wishbones are about £15 a side, I think. Might be £20. Try VW Spares / AVS.
  6. Ah yeah, ditto rear bearing cap. I've got a VAG header tank now, but it was £30... be warned...
  7. Mine are febi... ask me in 27 years when the Plum is back on the road  joby, you can find rear beam prep advice in my build thread. :salute:
  8. Ditto. 87.6% of my car has been restored with AVS parts - I should get paid commission or something
  9. In fact, does anyone know whether the horrid allen key bolts have been replaced with something hex headed or not? I gotta ask VW to order me some tomorrow, but if one of you guys knows that a set from mk3/4 will fit and are hex then that's definitely worth a try! Cheers :D
  10. Parts bin, parts bin, have ya any carrier bolts? *listens* The parts bin contains no carrier bolts.... There goes tonight's job! Better get them ordered first thing tomorrow morning which is a major setback as I'm away all weekend. Ho hum. :brickwall:
  11. Here are the parts I picked up from 3CM - what a legend: The best guide pins I have ever seen, they look amazing! Who knows why 2 of them have a tapered pattern then? Are they lower / upper specific? All standing to attention. Makes me feel proud... 2(!) handbrake mechs and grub screws. Cheers matey! much better condition caliper to be overhauled (left), my overhauled caliper (right). Comes with extra bleed nipple... I think this caliper might be wireless... It's nice to have 2 of the same caliper again! The ones I took off the car were different to each other  Ooooh, boxes of tricks.... What could they be? Ah, useful. New guide pin boots, bolts and pocket o' grease (made by Lucas it seems) My o'hauled carriers too. In reasonable nick, a bit of corrosion to the pin sliders but nothing major. Going to put it all together now...
  12. Spot on with the rear clusters mate, there's a reason they'd be on any black C I own! Also, let me know if you're after random bits. I cleared out my "parts bin" at Andy's at the weekend and got shedloads of bits (including G60 calipers :norty: )
  13. Yeah, my flaring kit seems to work differently to your vice master. The ones on mine are double flares (pipe is trumpetted outwards initially, and then folded back in on itself for the second flare) I dont' think they will give me any problems, but then I haven't had much experience of self-made working lines... yet! 3Corsameal's parts came yesterday, hopefully get the pics up tonight if the laptop wants to behave. Cheers matey! :salute:
  14. Dude, how long does it take you to type your posts and put the word Storm in bold AND red AND italics! Car's alright, too
  15. Ditto. Pretty sure it's pressed into the caliper body at the factory.
  16. ProdigalSon used to have an Audi 80 saloon. For a good Audi forum try Fourtitude. A little quattro biased, but you should be able to get some good help.
  17. I would have still taken it for a drive, if by some random hating of fate you get stopped then just tell them you got lost. Last resot, the copper will phone the garage who will confirm you have an appointment for MOT and all's well. Wonder why he didn't tell you about the emissions when he told you about the bearings though...
  18. Why is he an idiot? You drove it to the garage with no tax and (obviously) no MOT  Sounds like a good run is what's needed to blow the cobwebs out - I'm surprised you didn't take it for a run on the way TO the mot test station in the first place. 2 years is a LONG time for a car to be sat about.
  19. I think he means will it fit the 9A and clear everything, or will it hit the bulkhead. The 9A is taller(?) than a KR engine which is what is in the Mk2 Golf, and the 1.8 valver corrados. Try the search, I think this has been mentioned before. Also try the definitive exhaust thread.
  20. ok, locate where the two coolant lines pass through the bulkhead and connect to the matrix. If the hoses go all the way to the bulkhead then you don't have the valves. If however you have something small and metal connected in line with these hoses near the bulkhead then you probs have the valves. hth, Jon.
  21. One silencer! What have you been up to....
  22. yeah cables definitely stretch, that's a given. If you got a spare £100 then do the mk4 calipers, else just change the cables. They're not much.
  23. Sounds like a good to do list there. Not sure if we can ever leave it alone!
  24. I found my handbrake mech with the spare sets of G60 calipers. I have more awesome than I know what to do with.
