Do you mean the coil or the ignition amplifier? If so then as already said they are one unit which is bolted to the bulkhead behind and to the right of the engine as you look at it - its pretty obvious as the king lead goes straight to it!

Whats the best MPG anyones had out of a Corrado?
Purple Tom replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in General Car Chat
I usually get between 39 and 42 with normal driving, and if I drive it like a grandad then the MFA will indicate between 50 and 55 mpg - thats an 8V for you! My normal commute usually results in around 45mpg  -
Yup, me too! There's a bit of a breeze today which has helped, but full leather makes for a slightly sweaty back! I would say its worth it to be out in the C in the sunshine but A/C would be nice  Can you imagine having a Corrado without A/C in somewhere actually hot?? Like some parts of America or somewhere similar? Actually, just any car without A/C would be a literal pain in the arse!!

Are they the Hi-Con GT coilovers? Really tempted with a set but as with most people I want decent ride quality!

VR revs fluctuate when hot with idicators on? HELP PLEASE!
Purple Tom replied to VRTrickster's topic in Engine Bay
Have you checked the voltage across the battery terminals when this is occuring? The indicators shouldn't be too much of an electrical load but if there's a fault with the alternator or a possible earth problem then its possible that the load generated by the bi-metallic strip in the flasher unit is affecting the output of the alternator. Being in reverse will also mean the reversing lights are on which is more electrical load. Does the engine note change or fluctuate when things like the wipers, heaters or headlights are on? -
That sucks :( I hope you're ok, keep an eye on the whiplash as it normally gets worse before it gets better. At least its irrefutable that its the trucks fault, you can claim on his insurance and get a decent amount for your car, hope you can get it sorted one way or another.

Has your 'rado been mistaken for anything?

Just got chatting with a guy in a petrol station tonight who said he really liked my Vento! :cuckoo:  -

Not quite the same, but I once got approached by a girl outside Tesco's, saying how nice the car was, and asking what it was. I replied with the usual 'its a Corrado', expecting a blank stare in reply, but she said 'no no, what is it? A VR, G60, what?' I was gobsmacked! I then had to say it was just a 2.0 8V, to which she replied 'oh well, at least it'll be economical' Wish I'd got her number but having the (ex) missus sat next to me wasn't conducive :( Its also been called a Scirocco on a number of occasions, and also a Rover Tomcat which was swiftly corrected :brickwall: -
As far as I can tell the differences are: 2E has an AFM, ADY has a MAF 2E has an ISV mounted seperately to the inlet manifold, ADY has it built into the throttle body on a similar bypass arrangement. They are the same power and torque output, think the ADY is slightly better on emissions. So basically not a lot :) Tom

Thats a really nice looking car, stands really well too! I went to look at Kip's 8V before he bought it and really liked it, but settled for a different colour in the end. I have to say though that I love it, so nice to drive, really torquey and not at all as slow as people make out! Also, if I drive mine fairly steady on my 8 mile 40/50mph commute on the way home I get 47mpg over the journey. Which basically means that £50 worth of fuel will last me roughly 2 weeks :) The trick with the 8V I've found is not to bother with full throttle, it just wastes fuel. Be very sparing with the throttle and it'll still move nicely, but you're wasting your time if you boot it, the engine isn't a revvy lump at all and has no more to give above about 4500 rpm. Hope you enjoy it, looks like a 2E lump rather than ADY? Not that it makes any difference! Tom

I know this isn't very specific to your problem but that sounds very much to me like an earth fault, somewhere in the steering column, or possibly a broken ignition switch altogether. It could also be a fault with the instrument panel (clocks), but I can't see that affecting the horn. My attention would be focused on the ignition switch and all earths in that area, although I don't have any experience of this problem personally, hope its of some help!

It will bubble if the coolant reaches boiling point when the cap is off. The cap is designed to hold pressure because pressurizing the cooling system results in the coolant boiling at a higher temperature. Sounds like your black temperature sender has had it, not expensive from VW. Don't buy from anywhere else, make sure its a genuine VW part.

Hey, The build sticker on all Corrado's, which should be both in the boot and in the service book, has a load of three-character codes at the bottom. There's usually about 15-20 codes, and these are VW-speak for the various options that your car was specified with from the factory. Some of them aren't very exciting but its quite interesting to see what your car came with! Here's the link - http://igorweb.org/equidec/ All you need to do is enter each code seperated by a semi-colon ' ; ', dead simple. Just so you see what it looks like, here's the decoded codes taken from the build sticker of my 1995 2.0 8V :) X2B = National sales program Great Britain B0N = Component parts set, complying with vehicle type for Great Britain, various parts C5W = Cast alloy wheels 7J x 15 G0C = 5-speed manual transmission H0U = Tires 195/50 R15 V J1P = Battery 220 A (44 Ah) Q1D = Sports front seats 1AC = Anti-lock brake system (ABS) 1G4 = Space-saving spare wheel 1ML = Leather trimmed sports steering wheel 3AE = Right exterior mirror: flat, electrically adjustable and heated 3BF = Left exterior mirror: convex, electrically adjustable and heated T8A = 4-cylinder gasoline engine 2.0 L unit 037.K 3FD = Electric sliding/pop-up sunroof 9BA = W/o additional electric safety package 9HA = Without additional malfunction display 9C2 = Without special low beam mode but with "coming and leaving home" function 8GD = Alternator 90A 8RL = 6 speakers (passive) 8TD = Rear fog light for driving on the left 4A3 = Seat heater for front seats separately controlled 8BF = Halogen headlight for driving on the left 8WD = Integrated front fog light 1BA = Standard suspension/shock absorption

I'm stripping the rear spoiler mechanism down and cleaning it all up, hopefully cleaning the car itself too ready for the East Midlands meet tomorrow!

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but surely it is possible to replace the CV joint without disturbing the camber/castor settings? I would have thought it would be possible to undo the pinch-bolt in the strut that locates in the lower ball joint pin, remove the strut top cap and essentially remove the entire front strut assembly (once the hub nut is undone). Refitting would just be a case of relocating the ball joint pin in the lower section of the bearing housing, slotting the new CV joint into its spline in the hub and refitting the strut top cap....I would also have thought that doing that would improve access to the inner CV joints if you were planning on replacing those too... Saw a black G60 in Macclesfield today at about 3pm. Lowered and it looked like it had a bit of a 3-slat grille blended into the front bumper, presumably for an intercooler. Also had an a-pillar mounted boost gauge.

might look like a Megane but the film was made before the new shape Megane came out...

After months of looking I finally happened upon the eBay bargain of the century last night. 4 16x7 BBS RX's with brand new Toyo T1-S tyres (215/40R16) for £250!!! Went down to collect them today and got them fitted, they are literally brand new, couldn't believe my luck. Next on the agenda is the rear axle rebuild, mk4 calipers and a subtle 35mm drop on Weitec suspension: Slowly getting there now :)

My 1st Corrado - Updated P3 Rear axle refurb and new lights

Yeah I had a strong feeling it was mostly salesman's talk when he was spinning that story to me! At least your car now has an owner that'll look after it and sort the little niggles that might otherwise have gone un-sorted. -

Yeah, its where I got mine from back in August last year! He told me some story about him being a Corrado fan and how he bought my car thinking he was going to use it as his personal motor but instead decided to sell it, wasn't sure how much of it was true but I've noticed he always seems to have a Corrado or two kicking about for sale so he must be a bit of a fan :) Good luck with the little fixes on your car anyway :D -

Looks a nice motor, did you get it from Derby Trade Cars by any chance? -
Definitely not! In fact I think only two people have sat in my back seats and neither of them had anything sticky, even the missus isn't allowed in the back :nono: Its great when you win though, although you have to fool yourself into believing that they were trying really! :cuckoo:

I was paraphrasing from the old Dime Bar advert :) [youtube:13qgcker]ZwTHVZHqSb0[/youtube:13qgcker] The even worse thing is that I sometimes have a go at cars that don't even realise what I'm doing, and still lose

You cant go messing with your car Tom its too tidy as std! Standard on the outside, crunchy on the inside!! Kind of like armadillos
