    Clutch problems . .

Sounds common then - is it easy - where would I start?
  2. Morning all. OK - came out this morning and my clutch pedal has sunk to the floor. It's done this before, but seemed to correct itself - especially with the old toe under the pedal trick. I think it's the slave cylinder - are there any threads on how to fix this - apologies, being at work I can't check. Also, is it easy, what's involved - what does it look like etc etc?? Thanks all - at least it's a nice day !!
  3. Thanks all. Do I have time on my side?? I spoke to Stealth yesterday (on the ball-joint stuff) and mentioned potential clutch stuff. They can't book me in til July. I think I'd rather go there where this is expertise !
  4. Update - local clutch place can fit a new clutch for £297.16 all-in. This might get rid of the judder I get in first on take-off - (unless that's engine mounts). More saving to do . .
  5. Morning all. How can I definitely check if my clutch is on the way out?? Some slippage on hard acceleration, (specially uphills - the classic test), and the pedal dips if I don't drive for a couple of days (slave cylider??). If a new one is needed, are your local clutch fitters up to the job - or do I really need to go to some-one that knows Corrados? Also, if it does need changing - are there any mods worth doing at the same time - competition clutch, quick-shift etc etc. Thanks all - I will start saving !!
  6. Thanks for all the detail and sticky Kev - another visit to Stealth methinks !! Just one question. Steering feel definitely improves dependent on the wheel position - (currently on it's lowest setting). Do you think ball-joints will solve this - or could there be wear in the column? I know I should get ball-joints done anyway - just want to try and prepare for the worst !! Thanks again.
  7. Hmmm - not sure what to try next then. All I know is, after spending much cash on new suspension, top mounts, bushes etc etc, an easy replacement of the steering made it feel so much nicer. Incidentally, I have a Weitec system fitted by C&R which seems pretty good for the cost - but may uprate to Koni TAs and H&Rs at some point. Do you think I'll notice the difference??
  8. I hear what you're saying. I at first thought was I just making it feel better coz I wanted it to - but there really is a significant difference in feel. I sort of hope there is - especially if it can be fixed easily. Maybe I'll leave it for a few days, then move back to the old position - either it will feel crap again, or the general movement in the column may affect the other positions ?? Just a thought !
  9. So - does this mod actually provide any performance gains - presumably if the engine can rev out quicker, performance would be improved ???
  10. Hi all Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. Did we ever get the name of this guy in Woking ? I only ask because since moving my steering position (which made the steering feel superb), it has become "wooly" again. I now have it on the lowest setting which makes me feel like I'm in a kids (very rapid) peddle car - but feel is great again. If Mr Woking can solve this, I'm definitely up for a visit !!

    Light steering

Make that 4 of us !! Changed the steering height and it's made a fantastic difference to steering feel !!

    Auto windows

I might have to go and see some electronics whizz-kid then. When my car was in for an immobiliser fit, they told me it was all fairly easy to control with relays - so we could no doubt "customise" passenger and drivers side !!

    Auto windows

My windows are the same - i.e. have auto down but apparently not up. Mines a 95 VR6 - I'm sure I read somewhere that the auto is only on the down ??? Interested to know if they should be auto-up too !!!
  14. Sounds like there's a few of us with dodgy feeling racks. I've spent hundreds recently trying to sort my handling - is there a sure-fire way to check if my steering rack needs replacing? I'd hate to spend another few hundred and find its still not sorted . .

    Alignment

Kev - have you been to Stealth yet?? How did you get on? I spoke to Vince on Saturday and am planning a visit there in a week or so. The sooner I get this handling sorted the better - then I can think about a Schrick !!!!

    Alignment

Thanks for the thoughts, be interested to hear what Stealth have to say Kev. Could my situation be a combination of wheel bearings and ball joints then? What sort of cost could I be looking at for having both these bits sorted? At the moment, I am frustrated as despite spending loads on getting the handling right - it still isn't !! Corrados eh - you've gotta love 'em though!!

    Alignment

Hello again - further to the above, just seen Kev's response in the "droning noise" thread about wheel bearings and the effect on steering. This is exactly what my VR6 does. So - can dodgy wheel bearings affect the alignment?

    Alignment

My alignment and set-up seems to knock itself out really easily. I've not hit anything or done anything untoward - and pretty much everything has been replaced recently - any ideas? Also, I've heard the C has unequal length drive shafts (???) and one is weighted to balance these. If this is out/missing, it can make the steering feel heavier in one direction over the other. Is this right? Cheers all
  19. Hmmm - it had a new powerflex steering rack mounting fitted when the track rod ends were done. Is this what you mean? If it's not this - how can I check the bushes you mention?
  20. Hi there - yep all realigned so happy that's right. There is a bit of noise from the suspension - again I'd expect that - seems to get louder when going round bends - lefthand particularly !
  21. OK - some of you may have seen this question develop over time. Started with vague steering and soogy suspension and have now carried out the following: new weitec GT kit - (lowers 40mm) Mk4 Golf bump stops new wishbone bushes new rear axle bushes new track rods new top mounts The underlying handling is great, but the car still feels a bit vague - changing lanes on the motorway under acceleration for example, I sometimes feel the car isn't reacting as it should. The ride around town is quite hard - I expect this - but even on smooth roads with the clutch dipped and coasting, there is still some jiggly behaviour. Please help, this is frustrating - anything else to try - wheel bearings, engine mounts?? Thanks - I promise to shit up about this soon !! PS - the fitting of the weitec GT kit was photographed for VW motoring mag - and should appear next month - fame at last !!
  22. Hi all Following recent handling problems, I have now had a weitec gt kit, new top mounts, new track rods, new rear axles bushes and new wishbone bushes fitted and alignment reset. Things seem much better, just need some bendy lanes to really try it out on the way home!! Just to add the finishing touch, I've been told Uniroyal rainsport 1s give great wet grip and provide good steering precision. I'm thinking of getting these - any thoughts/feedback/alternatives. What sort of cost am I looking at?? Thanks PS - I'm not as rich as it may appear from the above !!

    Alignment Set-up

I know what you mean - I've had rear axle mounts, front wishbone bushes and a Weitec suspension kit fitted to try and resolve this. When the kit was first on and the alignment just adjusted, the handling was a revelation - it soon went to pot though (which to be honest, may or may not be alignment at all!!). As I said, it's going for further investigation next Monday - I'll post the outcome. Meantime, I will check wheelbalancing etc etc etc etc. It's a shame coz this is really spoiling the drive !

    Alignment Set-up

Following recent discussion about alignment adjustment and how only one side should be changed - I am told my VR6 appears to have been adjusted on the wrong side in the past. I think that at a previous alignment check, the only way the garage could get it close was to adjust the wrong side (????). Now, when the set-up is first done, the car handles and feels great, but it soon goes all sloppy, wayward and indirect. It's going to be set from scratch - ie set up to factory measurements and then re-adjusted on the correct side only, but, could there be anything else wrong with the car meaning that it could not be adjusted correctly in the first place - bent wishbones, wear in the suspension etc etc?? Thanks in advance !

    Throttle Response

Hi all - not really a problem - more an observation, but not sure where to post this ! Anyway, when giving my VR6 some welly, it pulls hard (of course), however, if I accelerate hard, take my foot off and then re-apply power immediately (so the whole process takes less than half a second) - it seems to pull even harder. Not sure if this is just an illusion - or whether the cars not breathing as well as it should. Any thoughts ?? Car has an AmD remap and K&N Panel filter
