Yeah save the money from the LM's and treat it to something else instead, you know it makes sense. Nick
-
I'd leave those rims on, they look the nuts and are very different. LM's do look good on a Rado but seen a few with them on now. Nick

A couple of observations from my first 36 hours of Rado ownership. 1)Other drivers on the road. Whilst the majority go about their daily business I do got the odd quizzical look from folks who either don’t know what it is or haven’t seen one in a while. As for dubbers I’m getting far more thumbs up and waves than I ever did in the golfs or the passat. 2)My Co-Workers. Had lots of comments from folks I work with ranging from “What is it?”, “Cool Corrado” and “How can you afford a Porsche?”. The main theme running through all of them is they think it must have cost loads of money and they stare in disbelief when I tell them I paid £1100 for it. 3)Living with it. God damn it’s thirsty, yet to see over 30mpg on the MFA although I think it’s under reading a bit. I’m going to get the timing and fuelling check at my local VAG specialist in the near future. Of all the dubs I’ve had though it’s the nicest drive and the best handling. It’ll happily potter along and be comfortable and quite but when you drop your right foot it howls like a banshee and stiffens up to become a brilliant B road blaster. Nick -
Right tested it tonight and get 12.8v with the engine off at both terminals on the connector in the boot lid. One goes live with the switch pressed for up, the other live when switched for down. With it connected the motor makes no noise and does nothing. I guess this means the motor it dead right? If so anyone got a known working one for sale? I may have sorted one but not heard back from the guy and having only had it a day I want to get this fixed PDQ. Nick

I need to change the rims for something else at somepoint but luckily I don't find the current ones at all offensive so they can stay till I find some suitable replacements and the cash to change them. This whole car will be maintained and modded on an uber tight budget as I have little to no spare cash each month. Nick -
In that case it would sem likely to be a problem with the fan assembly. Best to first check the vent where it sucks in the air. I'm new to Rados (only got mine last night) so I'm not sure where it is but if it'a like most other 80's dubs it'll be under the windscreen in the scuttle somewhere and be a black plastic vent. Have a poke arounf there and make sure it's not blocked with leaves or anything. Next step then would be to strip out the lower dash and remove the heater box and blower box and take it apart to see what's going on in there. Nick
-
You tried moving the dial to change the direction and see what that does? I.E if you have it just out of the footwell vents do you get loads on 4 but when set to windscreen only a slight puff? Nick
-
Oh yeah and I checked fuse 16 but that seemed fine. It's late valver if that makes any difference as to which fuse? Nick
-
Cheers Aqua. I took it out at lunch and no sign of any spoiler action once well past 50mph so it's clearly not switch related. Will have a fiddle tonight and report back later. Nick

Don't worry that's not really my style. I'm going to put clear side repeaters on becuase that'll match the fronts but rear lights and everything else will remain standard. Nick -

Well less than 24hrs in and something has broken, at least it's only the spoiler. Seems their reputation for being a bit full of gremlins is true! Nick -
RIght popped out for a ciggie and popped the rear cover off and wound the spoile down. Was reasonably stiff so going other posts on here it needs a good clean up. Plan of action at the moment is: * Try speed test at lunch * Check for 12v on motor tonight when using switch * Remove and clean whole setup on sunday. Can someone tell me which fuse it is though? I had a look on the tray and it didn't list the spoiler. I think I may have scored a used and working set up for £50ish too so I may wel just get that and keep it as a spare if I fix what I've got on the car already. Nick
-
Nice one, I read about the manual winder so I'll try that when I got home tonight. I may unplug the motor from the loom at lunch to avoid any further problems until I can look at it. Not good that I could hear the motor then. I saw a cleaning guide on here on the search so I'll try that. I did notice last night that when the spoiler dropped in traffic my headlights dimmed so it was clearly pulling a lot of current. Nick

Think I've broken my spoiler already :( I did a search but all the results didn't really help me with my problem. It's stuck halfway and wont move on the switch. Gonna go out at lunch and see if driving it up to 60 and back down sorts it. If not I'm going to cry. I can hear the switch clicking the relay but no noise from the motor. The Relay clicking suggests switch is OK in both up and down operations. Should I have been able to hear the motor before or was this a sign it was not happy? I've not got the manual with me here so which fuse should I check in the fuse box? Cheers guys/gals. Nick

I now see why you guys all love these things so much. I've been grining from ear to ear since I picked it up and the drive to work this morning was just brilliant. I'm now sat at my desk wishing I could admire it out of the window. I'm now a full on Rado convert and apart from the camper it's the best Dub I have ever had. Roll on Eurofest at Castle Combe to see what it's like out on track! Nick -

More pics after hooking up with my mate Rik tonight. Pretty crap shots by my standards but I was more interested in driving it tonight. Nick -

Well just got back from picking it up and loooooooove it! Who needs a stereo the sound of those 16v's is music to my ears. Going to quickly stuff down a pizza then I'm off to enlarge my Carbon Footprint just for the hell of it! Nick -
I guess you're right, I've not seen that done before and I really don't like the sound of it! Give me a new wishbone every time, they're not that expensive! I agree it's a bodge and I wouldn't want it done on my car but I've seen them done like this although more often on T25 Campers which have big old and expensive ones. It's really only a temp fix as it will be rotten again before the next MOT. Nick
-
I guess he means the wishbone is rotted and has had a plate welded on it. Nick

I was thinking clear side repeaters to match the front lights. I quite like the wheels which is lucky as I can't afford to replace them until next year so they'll do the job for now :-) Nick -
A starter wouldn't really cause it to cut out. When you say it whines, does it actually turn over? Nick

Ta Da! 2.0 16v 136,000 miles, FSH, 12 months MOT 1 advisory (Handbrake) 6 months tax, 4 new tyres, loads of recent bits, everything works. £1,100. Deposit paid to Mule Tamer off here and should be picking it up Tuesday night. First thing will be a full wash, polish, wax and shampoo of interior. Then fit a head unit. I should aslo be getting a KR cam put in in in October along with drilling the airbox, smoothing it out and dropping in a K&N panel filter. Should give it a bit more zoom! Nick
-
Well 3 months after starting this thread the passat has been put up for sale and I've just got back from putting down a deposit on Mule Tamer's 2.0 16v Rado. Should be picking it up on tuesday night :-) Nick

Nothing worse than un detected knockers! (I'll get my coat  ) I figured it was something to do with timing advance and retardation. I'll get it back on and sorted by the weekend. Nick

Yeah I was thinking the uncrimp, through, recrmp method may be the easiest way. I'll have a dabble later in the week. Seem to run fine without it though which is odd! Just want to say again a big thanks to everyone on here, you've all been dead helpful. Nick
